Baltimore Oriole bird and Hummingbirds are now here!

It is time to celebrate because my two favorite birds have arrived looking for their feeders as in many years past. We can always tell if they have been here before since they instinctively know where my husband places their feeders.

We were having breakfast recently and looked up to see a brilliant orange and black bird – the Baltimore Oriole! What a lovely surprise! We enjoy watching the birds coming and going to our feeders each year and especially get excited when we spot the orioles or hummingbirds. They are here for only a couple of months or so. I never tired of watching them feed.

Here is the photo I snapped of the Baltimore oriole this particular morning.

Here are some more photos of past visits from them.

Here are some photos of the hummingbirds from past posts. I haven’t caught one with my phone yet. I promise to share more though soon. My husband luckily had put out the grape jelly for the oriole but hadn’t put up the hummingbird feeders (4). He hurried to put them up right away! We saw one flitting around looking for the feeders. It was quite perturbed when it didn’t find them. Sigh!

These tiny creatures are so talented at flying and maneuvering themselves around in mid-air. They are beautiful little acrobats.

I always share this poem I wrote many years ago about them.

HUMMING BIRD

It is delicate as a butterfly

and graceful as a lark.

Wings beating in a symphonic rhythm

as it maneuvers around each flower,

and dips its beak to draw out the nectar so sweet.

I watch it as it moves so effortlessly.

Its wings beat so quickly it almost seemed to stand still.

Its feathers glisten with color and reflect the sun’s rays.

Seeing this bird in its element is to experience pure wonder and joy.

One knows that there is something greater out there

that made the glorious humming bird.

It is always a joy to see these gorgeous birds, orioles and hummingbirds. I feel my spirits lifting and my heart soaring. They give me peace and remind me how insignificant we all are in this world, just a grain of sand, but we are still all important and cherished by God.

What are you thankful for today? I am thankful to see the orioles and hummingbirds returning.

PS The Baltimore Orioles appeared first on 5/8/23 but I did not post this until later. I am supposed to be taking a couple of weeks away from social media. Any posts you see after the 8th of May have been prescheduled just to supply something for you to read. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for stopping by today to read this post. Wishing you a lovely day today and every day.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

  2. Wow!! I’m jealous. I have hummingbirds and I love it but I can’t get an Oriole to stop by yet.

We have two northern orioles, a first. Hummers have been few – we need to move the feeder.
