I have been a busy bee all this year! I usually write two newsletters a year but I have been too busy to get around to doing more than one. Here is what has been happening with Jemsbooks aka Janice Spina aka J.E. Spina during 2019.

This newsletter is a way to let you know what’s new to Jemsbooks.
Janice Spina aka J.E. Spina published five new books in 2018 and three in 2019. She hopes to meet her goal of four in 2020.
Jemsbooks now has 12 children’s books for Ages 1-8.
In January of 2019 Abby & Holly School Dance won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award)!
In February of 2019 Janice published her first fairy tale, The First Star.
This story was originally written for Janice’s two children when they were quite young. They are now grown with children of their own.
In April of 2019 Janice published Book 6 of Davey & Derek Junior Detectives, The Case of the Mystery of the Bells.
This new book has plenty of magic, mystery and fun for boys and girls to enjoy.
All covers and illustrations were done by Janice’s husband, John. He continues to create beautiful illustrations and covers that bring Janice’s stories to life.
John has created promos for Janice’s middle-grade books below for Ages 10 +.

Janice and John are currently working on six books about Dragons for young children. They hope to publish book 1 in 2020 and the rest over the next year or two.

In August of 2019 Janice’s book, Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series Book 6,The Case of the Mystery of the Bells, won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award.
Also in August Abby & Holly Book 1 School Dance won a Bronze Medal from Readers’ Favorite Book Awards and a 5-star review.

School Dance by Janice Spina is book one in the new series, Abby & Holly. Some readers might already know the two girls from one of the author’s earlier books: they were first introduced in Book 5 of the Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series. However, you do not need any knowledge of that novel to understand what is happening in the new series. I never read the other book, and had no issues with understanding and enjoying the girls’ story. Abby and Holly are excited because the sixth grade school dance will be soon. They are wondering whether twin boys Derek and Davey will invite them to go with them, but soon they discover a bigger problem. A girl called Justine is being bullied in the meanest way – a way which threatens her health and mental well-being at the same time. The two girls decide to become friends with Justine and find a solution to the situation so that everyone can enjoy the ball. But it seems like the bullies have come up with a new plan just a few days before the ball!
While School Dance by Janice Spina is obviously aimed at younger readers, I did enjoy the light, but quite serious read. It took me back to my own school time, but bullying then was something nobody every really talked about. And not much was done about it. So it’s delightful to see books like this in which the characters make sure that one message comes across: Bullying, no matter the reason, is not okay. The story encourages kids to be brave and stand up for the victims, and it shows that everyone will have a lot more fun if they all just get along. The language and reading level is suitable for pre-teens and young teenagers. The topics will feel familiar to them and it will be easy for kids to be drawn into the plot. It’s also clever to use a bigger font and many white spaces to create a book that makes kids feel like they have read a couple hundred pages. It will feel like an achievement to them, and will encourage them to tackle even more books.
Abby & Holly Series, Book 3 Secrets of the Trunk was published on September 1, 2019. Book 4 will be published in early 2020.

Newsletter Jemsbooks for all ages! January – August 2020
Here is what happened so far in 2020 from January through August!
This newsletter is a way to let you know what’s new to Jemsbooks.
This year began with a virus – COVID-19 in China which spread to US and the rest of the world. It has caused our world to shut down and keep everyone in their homes for fear of catching this deadly virus which has taken too many lives all over the world.
This is a time for all to hunker down and stay safe and well until this passes and stops infecting anyone else.
Janice has kept very busy writing, reading, blogging, editing and promoting her books. She continues to do this daily to provide you and your family with fun, creative and entertaining reading for all ages.
Please stay safe and well in your homes and keep your children busy with reading and their school work to encourage their minds to be creative and healthy.
I pray that you will all stay well and keep positive. This will be over soon and life will go back to almost normal. We have learned a lot from this virus especially how to wash our hands and stay away from crowds.
This has been a busy year for Jemsbooks. Janice has published six books, exceeding her goal of publishing four books in 2020. Also, her books won six book awards.
Book 6 of Davey & Derek Junior Detectives, The Case of the Mystery of the Bells won a Book Excellence Award Finalist in January of 2020.
This new book has plenty of magic, mystery and fun for boys and girls to enjoy.
All covers and illustrations were done by Janice’s husband, John. He continues to create beautiful illustration and covers that bring Janice’s stories to life.
In February of 2020 she published Drystan the Dragon and Friends Series Book 1: Drystan and Durward Save the Day, a book for young children PS-Grade 3.
This series is an educational and magical, mystical series of six books. Two are to be published each year for a few years.
The Dragons have names that begin with the letter ‘D’ and are of different brilliant colors. Children will learn the letter ‘D’ and colors while they read these fun and comical adventures. Each book, as all Jemsbooks for children, carry life lessons that will encourage children to be kind, caring and respectful to others, friends are important and it’s okay to be different.
In February of 2020 Janice published a new book in the Abby & Holly Series, Book 4: The Hidden Stairway for MG/PT/YA readers. This series of books have won four awards.
In April of 2020, Janice published Book 2, Drystan the Dragon Series: Damara Helps Drystan Find His Roar.
Jemsbooks now has 14 children’s books for Ages 1-8.
Also in April, Janice’s book, Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon,
won a Silver Medal from Mom’s Choice Awards!
In May of 2020, she published Book 5, Abby & Holly Series: The Copper Key. The Series has continued with more mysteries, time travel, and adventures with the cousins, Abby & Holly, for MG/PT/YA.
In July Janice published Book 3, Drystan the Dragon and Friends, Delbert Finds Himself. The series continues with life lessons that teach children kindness, respect of others, friendship matters, to help others in need and that all colors are beautiful. Now Jemsbooks has 15 books for young children.
Also in July came Book 6 Abby & Holly Series, Faulty Timeline which continues the mysteries with ghosts, haunted house and new discoveries and time travel. This is the last book in the series unless readers request more.
In June Sebastian Meets Marvin the Monkey won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award joining 12 other books with this same award.
In August Abby & Holly Series Book 4: The Hidden Stairway won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award.
Also in August 2020 Abby & Holly Series Book 2: Unfortunate Events won an Honorable Mention – Readers’ Favorite Book Awards!
Also in August 2020 Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Book 6: The Case of the Mystery of the Bells won a Finalist Award – Readers’ Favorite Book Awards!
Her talented husband, John, has created promos for Janice’s middle-grade books below for Ages 10 +.

Jemsbooks Newsletter – October – December 2020
Here’s the news for Jemsbooks through the end of the tumultuous year of 2020 – the year of COVID-19! It will always be remembered as the year that was stopped in its tracks by this horrendous China Pandemic. Many lives were lost, businesses closed, events were cancelled and everyone huddled down in their homes afraid to go out. May 2021 will be a year of recovery and healing with the help of vaccines and masks. May God Bless us all!
Jemsbooks had a busy year since there was more time, with everything being cancelled, to complete more books – 8 books were published in 2020! This is the most ever and will probably never happen again.
It was not only productive but successful in receiving 8 more book awards – in all, 25 Awards breaking down to 15 Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards, 5 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards, 3 Mom’s Choice Awards – Silver Medals, 1 Book Excellence Award, and 1 Authorsdb Cover Contest – Silver Medal.
Continuing on from October through December – this is the news:
In October of 2020 Louey the Lazy Elephant won a Silver Medal from Mom’s Choice Awards.
In December of 2020 Abby & Holly Series Book 5: The Copper Key won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award!

In December 2020 Jemsbooks published a children’s book – Drystan the Dragon Series Book 4: Delfina Solves A Problem, and a new novel, In A Second!

Also in April, J.E. Spina published a historical fiction novel, Lubelia Alycea: One Hundred Years, dedicated to her grandmother who lived to be 100 years old.
In June Janice’s children’s book, Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier, won a Silver Medal from Mom’s Choice Awards!
In August two books were published – Drystan the Dragon and Friends Series Book 6
and The Legend of the Taken Ones (Gateskin Chronicles Book 1) the beginning of fantasy series that will have six books.
