At this writing I have 19 children’s books for PS-Grade 3. Seventeen of these books are in rhyme while the other two are not. They all carry life lessons that encourage children to be kind, caring and sensitive to others’ feelings, help others in need and it’s okay to be different. Hop on JEMSBOOKS EXPRESS today with your children and peruse all my award-winning children’s books.
In a series of posts I will focus on one children’s book at a time. Sharing a little about each book, how I came up with the story, what each means to me and how important each one is.
Get your children into reading this summer to keep up their reading levels, spark their creativity, promote their love of books and enhance their health and wellbeing
Young children are so impressionable that as parents and grandparents we only want them to read books with good family values and important life lessons. Jemsbooks are the kind of books that parents and grandparents love. The stories are about baby animals that teach children valuable life lessons.
This was the first book I published and it’s still my favorite. This was my husband’s first project as a children’s book illustrator. I think he did a wonderful job of creating adorable illustrations and a cover which brought this story to life. Some readers have told me that this is still their favorite too out of all my other children’s book. They love the crayon illustrations. It reminded them of their coloring days. I feel that way too. Since then my husband, John, has moved into doing more digital drawings like everyone else. That makes Louey even more special to me. John wanted to update all the illustrations into digital form but I said, ”NO! I love Louey just the way he is!” He stands alone and is different. It’s okay to be different. What do you think?
I hope children will love Louey as much as I do. Please introduce them to sweet little Louey today by bringing him home to delight your children. What child doesn’t love baby elephants?

Louey is an adorable but lazy elephant who likes to sleep late. One day Louey wakes up to find that the whole herd has moved on without him. Louey is very upset but he is determined to find his herd. Does Louey find his way to his family and friends? Does he learn that it doesn’t pay to be lazy? Take Louey home with you and find out.
I have always loved baby elephants. This story came to me one day when I saw some elephants on a trip to the zoo with my kids. I observed the mother elephant as she cared for her baby. I was amazed at her kindness and caring manner as she taught him what an elephant does. She was most protective of her baby. I decided to show this maternal instinct in this story.
Here are some reviews of Louey.
Here is the life lesson in this story that children will learn.
Louey the Lazy Elephant – Louey teaches children the importance of not being lazy and always listen to your mother.
