This is a sad time for me. The lovely little visitors (hummingbirds) to our three bird feeders have been busily tanking up for their long trip to South America. Watching them is a joy for me especially during our troubling times in this Pandemic and violent year. It won’t be long before they fly away before the weather gets cooler and unsafe for their little bodies to survive.
I feel peace when I watch them as they feed. I have a feeder at my kitchen window and love watching them as they greet me with wings that flap so rapidly that they look like they are standing still. It’s amazing.
I have posted each year about them coming with a joyful heart. Now I am posting with sadness to see them preparing to leave. They are wondrous creatures! But they will be back again next year like clockwork!
We have had so many hummingbirds trying to feed at the same time but they fight over space. They don’t want to share the feeders. Alas, we do have three feeders, one on my kitchen window and two on our back deck. There is plenty of room for a few birds to sit at each feeder with social distancing too.
Above is a bee visiting the feeder to feast on the sugar water. Hummingbirds wait for the bees or hornets to leave before they move in for their own taste. They must have felt the sting of the insects at one time or another.
Well, it’s Adiou to these little creatures who spread a lot of joy in my part of the world. I will enjoy them as much as I can until one day they will flit away. I’m thankful to God for creating these magnificent creatures for all of us to enjoy!
