As most of you know I love birds and post about them often. I also love fish (not the eating kind here). But I do eat my share of all kinds of fish and other seafood.
My husband and I have three tanks of fish at our home, one salt water and two freshwater. They are our pets! We love and care for them. They have personalities like any other pet.
This freshwater tank is only six gallons and has a beautiful blue, red and purple beta (Rainbow) above, and a brilliant orange lobster (Larry) below.
The second tank is also freshwater and is 80 gallons with a myriad assortment of fish including a black-tipped shark and two large angels. One angel is at the top of the tank here.
The third tank is a 35-gallon tank with a spider starfish (Spidey), a chocolate chip starfish (Coco), a sea urchin (Urkel), a sea cucumber (Sandy), two clown fish (Nemo and Marlin), a hippo tang (Dory), and three shrimp (two are fire shrimp and one is a cleaner shrimp).
Nemo and Marlin and Dory swimming around together are the best of friends.
Coco, the chocolate chip starfish, loves feasting on shrimp.
Sandy, the sea cucumber, reminds me of Shrek as she lifts up her head.
Spidey, the spider starfish, slinking around the clam that my husband threw in for a treat.
We had two anemones which the clown fish love but they didn’t make it. We may buy another soon. I will share it with you. They are fascinating as they shrink and grow at will with finger-like projectiles that move in the water. Most fish get stung by these projectiles except the clown fish who actually sleep inside these creatures. They are immune to the stings.
I wrote about one of our former special sea creatures, a crustacean, Jerry the Crabby Crayfish! Jerry was quite a character and very crabby at times. He has become my most popular book of all twelve books so far. Louey the Lazy Elephant is a close second.
With all the colorful sea creatures we have there is bound to be more stories brewing in my head for future books. One that I plan to publish, in the future, is about a hermit crab (Clarence Henry), no longer with us. Stay tuned for more info on this and other books coming.
i hope you enjoyed this post about our pets. They give us a feeling of peace and joy just watching them in their habitats.

Blessings and hugs!

9/28/16 Addendum: Sad news to report! Sandy, the sea cucumber, passed last night. I found Coco having an early morning snack of her remains. Sandy had only recently joined our tank family. We will replace her eventually. It’s difficult when we name each creature and then they die. The large tank we don’t name any of them but the smaller tanks the grandkids enjoy calling the fish by names. Sigh. I did get some great pics of her though.
11/10/16 Addendum: During our vacation in Aruba our power was lost to our 35-gallon fish tank and we lost all our fish – two clown fish, a chocolate chip starfish, a hippo tang, a goby, a gamma, a sea urchin, a cleaner shrimp, two fire shrimp, spider starfish, and two hermit crabs. We were devastated to lose everything. My son who was caretaker of the tanks could not have prevented this from happening. The surge protector shut off the power and it was not turned back on until the next day. Too late to save them! Sigh! So sad for everyone! My husband will replace all of them soon. I will share the new tank at that time. For now please give them all a moment of silence so that they will rest in peace in fish Heaven. Sigh! ❤️
Love the pictures and discriptions. More beautiful seeing them in motion.😊
Thank you, Gloria! Yes, it is! 😆
I now have tank envy, Janice… my home just isn’t big enough for more tanks 🙂
They are a lot of work to take care of but my husband does it all as a hobby. Thanks for stopping by, Sue! ❤️
It is tank cleaning day here too… doesn’t take long though 🙂
How many do you have? Fresh or saltwater? The 80-gallon tank takes a long time to do and the 35-gallon is time-consuming too. Bless my husband for doing it all. I just enjoy them.
Not enough 🙂 Just the one freshwater tank, about 50 US gallons. Mainly small shoals of verious tetras and the big pleco. With more space, I would up that by several tanks 🙂
Oh nice! They are so calming to the body and soul. ❤️
They are… I ‘lose’ a lot of time watching them…they are next to my desk ❤
Oh, I wouldn’t get anything done! We have the two smaller tanks in the kitchen and the 80 gal in the foyer. We used to have four. One in the living room 20 gal. I got John to cut back a little. Haha! ❤️
My desk takes up a fair proportion of the living room… the tank a goodly bit more of it 🙂 Just wish thre was space for more 🙂
Love the pictures and the story about Jerry!!
Thank you, Tony! Jerry was quite a character! I had to write a book about him. Our fish inspire me to write. LOL! 😃
Lovely photos of your fish and wonderful descriptions to go with them. I will share this post with my 3 yr. old granddaughter who loves fish and all animals. I haven’t read Jerry the Crabby Crayfish, but I definitely will be ordering for my granddaughter.
Thank you, Michelle! I hope she loves him! He was an unforgettable character. 😘
I am sure she will.
😘
Beautiful, I’d love a fish tank I just don’t trust myself to have time to look after them well enough but they are beautiful. Yours are big enough tanks that they have room to play 😊🐟🐠🐡.
They are happy and seem like they are having a good time swimming around. LOL! 😘
