I have been asked this question many times – How do you create stories?
Well, I usually answer quickly this way – To create stories, I use some of my own experiences, dreams I have, things I read or hear about in the news, and what influences I have in my daily life.
Each person receives their own inspiration in different ways.
- Some dream of things to write about.
- Others live lives that provide them with endless creativity and never have a moment of ‘writer’s block.’
- It is what you do with your creativity that matters.
- Use your creativity to the best of your ability by writing about what you know.
- Research what you don’t know.
- Edit your work.
- Let beta readers read it through for other eyes.
- Enjoy the ride – it can be exhilarating!
As an author, how do you create stories? I would love to hear your thoughts.
When I first retired, I had doubts that I would be doing anything this productive as writing every day. I thought that I would never proceed to the next step and publish any of the stories I had already written. I surprised myself now that I have published 50 books and more are coming.
I love creating stories for all ages and in multi-genres. The more I do this – jump around genres – the more creative I feel. When my mind sparks new ideas, another book is created. It is a thrilling feeling to discover the power of creativity, purely a blessing from above. I am thankful for every book I have written with God’s help.
If you have been reading my posts since 2012, then you know the story about my husband’s reluctance to illustrate my books. Once I convinced him to do this, his mind sparked with new ideas and there was no stopping him from completing all 23 of my children’s books, twelve of my middle-grade books, and all 50 covers. I have been blessed with a talented and wonderful husband which I am grateful for each and every day of our 26 years together. I have kept him busy and productive the whole time. I think he is hoping for some rest and relaxation for a while. Sigh!
Of course, I have no plans to stop what I am doing but I will not tax him too much in his older years by not writing any more children’s stories as the ones below. They are tedious and time-consuming and take a lot of energy to create the illustrations. The stories are quick for me to write but without John’s magical illustrations they can live.
I hope you will check out all these books soon if you haven’t already. My most popular ones are Louey, Ricky, Lamby, Jerry. But all the rest are loved by readers too.
These books have won many book awards from Mom’s Choice Awards, Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards, Book Finalist Awards, Author’s DB Cover Contest, and Top Shelf Awards.
