The Dragonfly Story!

Ever heard of the Dragonfly Story? While I was on my recent trip, I met a lovely lady who was wearing a dragonfly necklace. When I commented on how much I liked it she shared this story with me in an email which I opened when I arrived back home. It is a beautiful story meant to share with children when there is a death in the family. It’s a kind way to explain death to children. Here is the link below. Please check it out. It will move you and touch your heart.

Sometimes we have to find a way to tell children in a story-like form about such things in life. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. It inspires me to write about dragonflies which I love.

Here is a photo of me holding a dragonfly who came to visit me on my back deck one summer. I noticed it flying around and invited it to sit on my fingers. It came, which was a shock to me. Once it sat there, I spoke softly to it. It was an amazing feeling because it just sat there and listened to me. I felt it was an entity (my mother) coming to see me when I needed her. Dragonflies are thought of as visitors of those who passed.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? It was an amazing feeling. After this happened, I looked up dragonflies to see if they bite. Yes, they do. But this one was not threatened by me in any way and just sat there and looked at me. It’s never happened again even though I have tried to invite others on my outstretched hand. I still consider it to be a visitor from Heaven.

This dragonfly above landed on our deck but did not come to me. He stayed there for a while as I spoke to it and finally flittered away.

These photos below are of plastic dragonflies I bought one year in Perkin’s Cove in Maine. I wish I had bought more and some of the butterflies that they had there too. Next visit I will do that and feature them in a post. They are cheerful and lighten my spirits each time I look at them. Sigh!

Some people have said that they have been visited by birds or butterflies that appeared at a time when they needed to speak to someone they had lost. How do you feel about such things?

I believe that there are some things in life that cannot be explained because of their strange nature. Why should we try to explain something if it means something special to us? Just enjoy it. I did.

I love dragonflies – they come in all sorts of colors and are very gentle. Beautiful to watch.

They are gentle but remember they can bite and do eat other insects even one of their own. But they are beautiful. Haha! 🥰

  2. Hi Janice, this is a lovely story. I have never had any unusual experiences with dragonflies but som other bloggers have.

I love dragonflies. A child in our school drowned some years ago, and he always loved dragonflies. When is mother came to my house to see my dragonfly stone, we were suddenly surrounded by dragonflies. It is an experience I will always remember.
