A Sad Announcement about my Hermit Crab – Sebas Jr.!

While we were away on vacation my hermit crab – Sebas Jr. passed away. My son was feeding our fish when we were in Aruba. He told me that on the first day Sebas Jr. was at the bottom of the tank outside of his shell. He didn’t have time to remove him and planned on doing that the next day. When he came back the next day Sebas had disappeared – he had been eaten by the fish there. They had a tasty snack of crab. Sigh!

Here are the many pics of Sebas in action in the past eating a clam, his favorite treat.

Evidently Sebas was in the process of molting but didn’t quite make it through the exhausting process and succumbed. We were saddened by this announcement and felt badly for my son who had this happen on his watch.

Here are some of his previous molting’s that were successful.

We will fondly remember Sebas for how well he cleaned the tank and kept the rest of the inhabitants in the tank in line. The fish are having a grand old time now without him there. Each time a clam is dropped into the tank they have a free for all getting at it.

Here is Trigger having a wonderful time snacking on a clam and not having to fight Sebas for it.

Trigger was successful in opening the clam and emptying its contents. He wore a smug look on his face (not really – but I imagined he did) after eating it all. The other fish watched but didn’t dare get near him for he has a fierce bite with his teeth.

We hope to obtain another hermit crab sometime. But it isn’t easy to get a large one like we had. They are usually so small that the other fish might attack it and eat it. Sigh! If and when we do get one, I will share some photos of it with you.

Thank you for stopping by to read this post. Come back again soon!
