Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of May of 2022. Here are the 8 books I read and reviewed for May. I might have read even more if I didn’t have another WIP or two to complete. But I always seemed to have a WIP! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look these books over soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
This is an imaginative, creative and enjoyable collection of very short stories. Annette has created varied stories in a few words that were filled with meaning and emotions.
Each story drew me in and held me captive until the ending that came so soon that it was like a blink of an eye but at the same time memorable. It takes quite a talent to write a short story that is complete and emotional all in just 99 words.
I highly recommend this book as a quick and unforgettable collection of lovely short stories that you will want to read and read again and enjoy even more each time.
I was gifted a copy of this book and chose to share my review.
This is a haunting tale that stayed with me long after finishing the story. The author has created a story that at first I didn’t know where it was going. The story was told through emails between two strangers who meet by accident when an email is sent to the wrong person on an email list.
The two protagonists, Marcello who lives in Italy, and Catherine residing in Seattle, Washington, USA meet through an email that Marcello mistakenly sends to her in which he pours his heart out to his supposedly wife who just asked for a divorce. The emails go back and forth until the emails become more serious in nature and the couple plan to meet in Italy during a conference that Catherine is attending for her work.
I don’t want to give anything away other than to say that this is a romantic, haunting tale of love that will grip you and not let you go until the surprise ending. I highly recommend this lovely book!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat as I followed along with FBI Special Agent Mercy Kilpatrick return to her roots in Oregon to her family home. Something happened to drive her away from her parents and siblings. Can she return and face them and not be rejected?
My heart went out to her as the story moves along to reveal what forced her to flee her family and stay away for 15 years. She is a strong woman who put this even behind her but not out of her mind completely. When she returns home she feels it all flooding back into her every fiber.
She meets the local Sheriff Truman and feels a closeness to him. He becomes a nice distraction from her troubles. They work to solve the three murders, one of which was his uncle, in this small town. There are hoarders and those who fear that the government will turn against them. Can this happen? Some believe it will.
An enjoyable read that kept me turning pages until the ending which put all the pieces together satisfactorily. I recommend this book, the start of a edge of seat mystery series for summer reading or anytime.
I could not finish this book. There was too much vulgar language and explicit situations. It was like reading a combination of 50 Shades of Gray and the Twilight Series. It was not for me.
An eclectic collection of short stories from the strange to the biblical all involving love. Of all the stories I especially enjoyed the biblical ones the most.
This is the first book I have read by Anne Brooke. She is a creative writer who jumps around genres in this collection.
Black Coral is an exciting adventure underwater and on land. Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Team are at it again in this mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Sloan is not afraid to delve into danger whether underwater or above. She is determined and fearless in her job to solve the crimes and put the perpetrators where they cannot hurt anyone else. She is also a mother with a preteen daughter who she worries about each time she deals with another murder involving young woman. This case has her anxious until she can solve it.
This story kept me enthralled and holding my breath until the last page when it all came to light. It was an enjoyable read, one which I highly recommend!
A different kind of crime/mystery series with a strange but intelligent psychopathic personality in the main protagonist, Dr. Gretchen White. She carries the whole story along with her odd thinking, non empathic characteristics, problem solving skills and a disturbed mind.
Dr. White works along with the police to assist on cases that the authorities cannot solve themselves. She thinks outside the box and can sense if criminals are lying during interrogations.
The story was told in time segments which could be confusing at times. It traveled back and forth between Gretchen’s POV and the other characters’. There were many suspects which kept this reader guessing until the end.
It was an enjoyable crime/mystery that I would recommend.
Deadly Pranks is a gripping story of four boys who get into trouble when they take pranks too far. What they don’t realize is they must pay for their errant ways.
The author has created a shocking account of four mischievous teens who get into all kinds of trouble without any thought to the consequences of their actions. It has some surprising twists and turns and a surprise ending.
It was an intriguing story from an author who also writes children’s books. Donald Rush has written a story that kept me interested and guessing what would happen next.
Thank you for stopping by to read this post. I hope you enjoyed reading the reviews of my monthly reads. Reviews are one way to share your opinions of books with others which may help them to choose their next read. We authors appreciate your kind support.
