This was the first novel I wrote after writing several books for children and middle-graders. It was quite shocking to write it and also for my readers who mentioned how surprised they were that I could write like this. It surprised me too.

As with a lot of my books this story came to me in a dream when my daughter was in college. There was mention of a rape on campus which frightened me half to death. I of course warned her as did the college security about walking around at night alone. My son also gave her his own warning for he had finished college the year before she began. He knew how dangerous it could be for young woman at night. He was as worried as I was about her. Thank God she did okay and always walked in groups everywhere she had to go and everyone was safe after that. No more reports of such problems.
