Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of August of 2021. Here are the 6 books I read and reviewed for August. I might have read even more if I didn’t have two WIPs. But, I always seemed to have a WIP! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I’ve read several of Saylor’s books about Gordianus the Finder and thoroughly enjoyed them. In book 2 of this series Gordianus, the Finder, is a young man who has settled down in Alexandria with his slave Bethesda. Life is pleasant and calm until Bethesda is kidnapped when she is mistaken for another woman who is connected to a rich citizen.

Gordianus enlists the help of the rich man in order to get Bethesda back. With the help of the rich man’s slave boy, Djet, Gordianus infiltrates a gang of thieves to find his slave. He is trapped there along with Bethesda with no escape in sight.

This book is rich in Roman history for which Saylor is noted to be skilled. There is a witch, cut-throat thieves, mystery, suspense and surprises in store, many I never saw coming. The story kept me intrigued until the satisfying ending.

This is Book 1 of a crime thriller series that is gripping with non-stop twists and turns. When there is a double homicide all clues point to the wife of one of the victims as the possible suspect but she has disappeared. What makes it even worse is this possible suspect is pregnant.

Some things don’t add up after other suspects are uncovered when another murder is committed. This victim is related to the detective on the case, Det. Devlin. Can Devlin handle being on this case now? Devlin and Falco are taken off the case when they lean heavily on some influential people. She and her partner, Det. Falco, go undercover to find out who is responsible before another body turns up.

Intriguing characters and story line that kept me turning pages.

Her Final Words is a riveting mystery that kept me guessing until the end. When a teenage girl confesses to murdering a young boy in a small town in Idaho the mystery begins. It looks like an open and shut case but what is the motive?

When FBI Special Agent Lucy Thorne is pulled into this case she is obsessed with finding the truth. She is not satisfied with the confession and feels there is more to this case than meets the eye. She knows if she wants to solve it she must dig deep in the lives of the family and the people of the community.

The author has done an exemplary job of keeping the mystery going as she introduces more possible suspects and motives. She created many intriguing characters that kept this reader interested and hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the case.

This is a cute story using one’s imagination through imaginary friends. This is how some children process and problem solve. The illustrations of the different animals are well done.

Children will learn how to be kind to others, bullying is not acceptable and that it is all right to have imaginary friends. We all need some help along the way as we are growing up.

A mystery/thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is espionage, spies, murder, government coverups, treason, heroes, criminals that keep the story moving at a fast pace.

Special Agent John Puller is on a case that involves his brother Robert who has been convicted of treason. There are plenty of reason to believe that Robert has been framed. Too many things don’t add up when Puller investigates with the help of another agent. He needs to trust her, but can he? They find that they are in danger at every turn they make. Will they be able to settle this case and manage to get Robert free of his prison sentence?

Baldacci does it again in this thriller. It was hard to put down but life gets in the way of reading non-stop. It’s a read that is well worth doing just that though.

This book was a heartfelt, emotional and devastating read of a mother and daughter who go on a hike in Yosemite and get lost. During this time they learn about each other, touch on difficult subjects of loss, love and heartache.

The characters find that they are stronger than they could have imagined and become closer than they had ever thought possible. There are some inconsistencies in the place setting in Yosemite. I have never been there but I see that there should have been snow and colder weather in March. The bear should have been hibernating and not roaming around the park.

But all in all, I found it to be an emotional rollercoaster of feelings that were so overpowering that I did not think about where they were. The loss of a child was so devastating to the mother that she could not function until she was given a wake up call from her adopted daughter.

This was a worthwhile read that you will not be able to put down especially if you are a mother. The author poured her heart into this story that I found touching and unforgettable.
