I am excited to announce that I have a new book – a YA Fantasy Book 1 of a series of six books – The Legend of the Taken Ones – (Gateskin Chronicles Book 1). I pray that this will be my best seller yet. (Fingers and toes are crossed!) Watch for it coming soon!
This book was written over ten years ago along with another novel and put aside until now. I have spent a few months looking it over, editing and rewriting it to get it the way I wanted. I noticed that my writing style had changed somewhat over the years. With the help of my wonderful beta readers I finally completed it.
This is the last book that I wrote from many years ago. Any books that come from this time on will be written in this year forward. It was easier to have something already written and just have to edit and polish it. Next year I will be writing from scratch with the help of my characters. As soon as I have a title I will go forward.
I have been so busy the last week or two editing and publishing two books for publication. This YA Fantasy and a children’s book. This is one way to drive myself insane if I am not there already! Yikes!
This isn’t my favorite genre but once I got into the story that the characters gave me, my fingers and mind went with it happily. It was fun especially since I didn’t know where the story was going back when I originally wrote it, and how it would end. Now I am wondering where they are going to take me in the rest of the series. I already began book 2 but I know the characters aren’t going to be happy that I started it without them.
I have felt a lot of stress dealing with this book. I don’t usually feel that way. But something is different about this genre. There are so many characters, lands, rulers, spells, etc. that my head is spinning. More and more characters are coming forward and wanting a piece of the story. I wonder if I will survive with all their pressure through five more books! Sigh! I did put a map of the lands, list of characters to help readers along. I know it is mind boggling even to me.
The series was intended for 13+ but adults will enjoy it too. My beta readers gave me glowing responses about it. They loved it and they are all over 13. Haha! As I mentioned in a previous post, I will try to keep violence low keyed for the 13 year-olds. There will never been any vulgar language or situations in these books. I will have some mild situations but certainly not like anything on TV nowadays. I hate hearing all the swearing and blood and guts. It gets tiresome to watch. I promise parents that you will love these books and feel comfortable that your young adults are reading them. Of course, I will have plenty of mystery, magic, a little romance, and surprises for all.
Blurb:
This is Book 1 of a fantasy series that will have six books in all. In this book learn about the three children of King Gateskin and his wife, Queen Solinara. The children have had powers since they were quite young.
Serena was three years old when she learned of her power to move objects with her mind. Her brother, Simon, can fly and their sister, Catalina, can become invisible or blend into her surroundings. They live with their parents in Sovorotskina, the Land of Light.
With these powers comes responsibility. The children must try to use these powers for the common good and responsibly to help others. The three children befriend a Sprite named Spindle who accompanies them on their adventure. Along the way they meet up with their aunt and uncle, their mother’s brother and his wife, Wizard Hotenfaran and Fairy Procelina. The group must travel into the evil land of Parotovina, Land of Darkness, to save King Gateskin, who was kidnapped, and also rescue some of the descendants of their friends and fellow Sovorotskinas who were captured and taken by the Evil Ones. These descendants have been waiting a long time to be free to return to the villages of their ancestors.
The children have many trials and adventures along the way. Will they be able to rescue their father and fellow Sovorotskinans without endangering their own lives? Will the evil King Kaposkaran and his Queen Beregina stop Serena and her siblings from being successful or will they turn Serena and her siblings to their dark ways?
