Several years ago I visited my daughter’s classroom (5th grade) to read and talk a little about my series, Davey & Derek. I was amazed at how excited the children were when I asked them how many of them wanted to become an author one day. Several raised their hands. Others who were shy surprisingly took part in an activity I created for the kids pertaining to one part of Book 1. In this exercise I had the children write a sentence in a backwards language as I did in my book. I told them I wanted them to stump me with their sentence. One girl did just that. She had to read it back to me.
Another activity I used was making sentences with words written on paper sheets. I asked each row to write a different part of speech and then we put them together to see what sentences we could recreate. I was the ending – period, exclamation or question mark. They laughed and were excited about doing something different. It was an enjoyable day for me and the kids. I hope to go back again one day. I did leave 2 copies of Books 1 & 2 in each 5th grade classroom that took part in the activities.
My daughter told me that the kids love the books and take turns borrowing and returning them for others to read. That was music to my ears that the kids loved reading them. Do your children a favor and grab copies of these award-winning books for your kids to enjoy today. Thank you!

Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series is a fun and magical series with spells, wands, a black cat, good witches, time travel, ghost hunting and more. There are also life lessons that include being kind, caring and respectful toward others, listen to parents, be helpful and do chores, and bullying is never tolerated or accepted. Parents love this series too! When your MG/PT/YA read these books you will rest easy that they are reading good, clean and wholesome books. What more could you want in a book for your children? These two series provide many hours of fun and entertaining reading for ages 9-13+. When I wrote these two series I had so much fun being a kid again. I really got into the mindset of kids of that age group. I thought back to when I was young and what I would have liked to read. I remember reading plenty of mysteries such as the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.
My series, Davey & Derek, have been compared to the Hardy Boys Series many times. In each stand alone book I created a mystery and some intriguing characters that make the stories captivating. Middle-graders will be hooked once they read Book 1 of each series. They will want to read them all. The characters are that engaging and interesting. Parents love these books too. I wanted to create characters that are real with realistic issues and how they solve them. I think your kids will learn how to deal with bullies in a nice way after reading these books.
