Rose of Sharon Bushes are in Bloom!

ROSE OF SHARON BUSHES ARE IN BLOOM!

I love this time of year when my Rose of Sharon bushes begin blooming. Once they begin to bloom there is no stopping them. They are just gorgeous. Here are some photos I snapped for you to enjoy.

The photo on the right shows a whole row of bushes against the side of my house – 10 in all and each one is a little different even though they came from the same mother plant.

We began with one bush in a light purple color. The original bush is the first photo above which has changed to white blooms since last year. These bushes are amazing in that they can change from year to year to different colors.

We took transplants from the original bush and these plants came up in one or two colors. Some plants have white and light purple on the same bush as the one above on the right and another one above on the left. It has white and purple blooms. As you can see in the photos there are three different colors – white, light purple and darker purple.

We have 17 bushes in all from all the transplanting we have done over several years. It is interesting to see what colors come up on each plant from year to year.

Along with these lovely flowers come the glorious hummingbirds (my favorite bird of all). They are attracted to the deep flower and sweet nectar of the Rose of Sharon blossoms. With so many bushes in bloom you can imagine how many hummingbirds are flying around our yard. It’s fabulous!

Here are some photos I snapped with my IPhone and iPad. I managed to capture a couple in mid-flight. We have three feeders for them which keep them flitting back and forth amongst these and the flowers. There’s plenty for them to eat. They need it too. They expel much energy just flying around forward, backward, up and down and upside down. They are the only birds that can fly upside down.

Some of these are at my kitchen window. They come up to feed and look at me in mid-flight. It’s so exciting to see them up close and personal. Some of these are ruby throated and others are emerald green or gray and black hummingbirds. They are all beautiful!

The photos below are from our back deck feeder. The birds fight over who is going to get there first. They travel back and forth amongst the feeders all day long. I run from one feeder to the other to catch them in action. LOL!

In the photo below I noticed the Rose of Sharon flower has multi-faceted petals and a different flowery stamen in the middle. They have distinctive differences the closer you look at them. I am in awe of these flowers. Can’t wait each year until they bloom. They delight and surprise me with their variations in color and textures.

I hope you enjoyed gazing at these gorgeous flowers and the amazing and beautiful hummingbirds. It was a pleasure to share them with you. I will keep snapping photos as more blossoms pop up so I can compare them and Fascinating!

Thank you for stopping by and for your kind support!
