Antalaya IsraelAntalaya Israel

Please help  me welcome author Antalaya Israel to Jemsbooks Blog Segment, Interview an Author.

It’s nice to meet you Antalaya. Thank you for coming.

Please tell us something about yourself.
I am a mother of a 6 1/2 year old girl named Tristan-Malia. I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. but resided in North Carolina for four years. I received my undergraduate degree with honors in Mass Communications in 2008 from Shaw University and my M.B.A. from Metropolitan College of New York in General Business in 2016. I have dabbled with acting after graduating with my Bachelor’s degree and have been in Gossip Girl, Law & Order and The Rebound (movie) as an extra. I have always loved writing and I actually knew it was something that I was truly good at after I wrote a phenomenal teleplay for my Media Production class.

I have always been a great writer and enjoyed it since high school but I did not think that I would be good enough to make it a profession until college. My professors constantly encouraged me to pursue something with writing and admired my work.

jjspina: Wow, I didn’t know you were also an actor. Good for you! Must have been fun to do something like that.

How do you come up with ideas for your stories?
I use my daughter, my nephew and all of their friends experiences and I use my imagination. Nothing is simple with kids and the way that they think. When they play hide and go seek, to us, it may be just a little game but to the kids, it may be a huge hunt filled with mystery, excitement and thrill.

jjspina: Yes, children are an inspiration to observe. You can obtain lots of ideas for stories. They have wonderful unspoiled imaginations.

What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on my second “Sunny the Skunk” book, which will be a part of the series. I also have other books in the works such as my memoir.

jjspina: This sounds like a cute Series.

What do you expect to accomplish in 2018?
I had high hopes that 2018 would bring me out of fear and accomplish things that I have regretted not presenting and pursuing with my all. I did not want this year to go by and I did nothing that truly makes me happy and will help me in my career as a writer and author.

jjspina: Think big and you will succeed – have confidence that you can do anything you put your mind to. You have youth on your side. Good luck with whatever you do.

What hobbies do you have when you are not writing?
I enjoy sewing, creating designs and making clothing.

Jjspina: You certainly are creative, Antalaya.

What is your target audience for your book?
My target audience for this book are children in pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade. This book is relatable that {believe it or not} adults have found it very helpful with dealing with out casting situations because we all go through it, not only children.

jjspina: Yes, many do have problems in everyday life interacting with others who are different. It looks like a cute book for kids.Sunny The Skunk 3D Cover.png

What advice would you give prospective authors?
I would tell them to be YOU. People who read your book want to see things through your eyes. Do not let anything discourage you from using your creativity and sharing it with the world. I am a testimony! Never could I truly imagine that I would celebrating being a new author in 2018.

jjspina: Good advice, Antalaya. Congratulations to you for becoming an author in 2018. This is just the beginning for you.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would definitely go to different parts of Africa.

jjspina: I hope you will get there one day.

It was a pleasure to have you here, Antalaya. I wish you much success with your book and future endeavors. Now that you are part of Jemsbooks Blog family feel free to come back again when you have a new release.
