Is it Possible to Write More than one Book at a Time?

This author is doing just that – writing two books at the same time. This isn’t my idea. I have been forced into writing more than one book at a time by my characters. They are taking over once again! Yikes!

This strange thing happened previously when I was in the middle of writing another book which has yet to be published. It is a historical fiction. While I was writing this novel another idea came to me and characters ventured forth compelling me to write down their story in a YA fantasy which is not yet published either. Hopefully next year I will attempt to publish one of them.

Now I am in the middle of Book 2 of Abby & Holly Series and who stops by to interrupt my train of thought but their buddies, Davey & Derek Donato, twin detectives from their series Books 1-5. Sigh! They had me writing up a whole chapter in the middle of the girls’ book before I realized – wait a minute this is not D&D’s book. Get out of here you rascals. You will have your time in Book 6.

Book 6 has Chapter 1 started thanks to D&D. Thanks guys! I need to rewrite Chapter 12 for Abby & Holly. Depending upon whether the twins’ voices interrupt me again I hope to complete Abby & Holly next month and send it along to my beta readers for proofing. Fingers crossed.

Well, in the meantime please check out Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series Books 1-5 and Abby & Holly Series Book 1 to get caught up in all the fun adventures, mysteries, magic, ghosts and comical antics. More fun coming your way!

I really love Davey & Derek as their personalities have come to life in each book. I couldn’t get angry with them when they got impatient to begin their new book. But as the author I need to take charge and let them know who’s boss. LOL! I promise to pick up Book 6 once Abby & Holly’s book 2 is completed. Did you hear that D&D? So there!

Give D&D some love by clicking on links below. They maybe, just maybe, they will leave me alone. Sigh! Thank you for your support!

Sorry about all the different sizes of covers! Couldn’t get them to be the same size so I didn’t fight it.

Go to Amazon or Barnes & Noble or click on covers to the right of this post for purchase.

Thank you, readers, for stopping by to read of my dilemma. If the boys behave themselves I will get both books done in no time. LOL!

Check out this post from Jem’s Books Blog that asks the question: Is it Possible to Write More than one Book at a Time?

  2. Oh Janice you really made me laugh with this post. I can’t write more than one book at a time. Not enough time and not enough brain power.

I had to laugh to. Thank you, Roberta. D&D are so persistent. There I was typing away and had completed a whole chapter on them before I knew it. They are rascals but I have come to love my characters and they know they can get away with anything if I am not observant to their wily ways. LOL! So much fun with this series! I laugh through it all. Thanks for stopping by. Hugs

  4. I often end up writing more than one book at once. At the very least I’ll be working on a poetry collection and a story at the same time, but I often have two or three stories on the go. Sometimes the characters just take over, or the stories just need to be told, or whatever.

I’ve often heard it said it’s best to get your ideas on paper as soon as possible. At least it is for me, before I forget them! Sounds like you have a wealth of ideas and inspiration at hand, Janice.

    You are amazing, Janice!

  7. Not so much writing two books at the same time, but writing two or more short stories at the same time, then yes, I often do that, Janice. Some of my short stories can then lay dormant for months on end before they come knocking on my creative door again.

It sure is possible my friend. I did it twice, writing 2 books simultaneously. I quite enjoyed it having another book to work on when the well ran wonky on the other. Hey, we have to go with the inspiration when it comes right? I applaud you my friend. ❤ 🙂 xx
