Thank you, Janice, for giving this opportunity! It was a pleasure to meet you at the Vineyard.

Stephen Lomer Bio:

A grammar nerd, Star Trek fan, and other things that chicks dig, Stephen Lomer is the author of the hugely popular novel Typo Squad, the short story collections Stargazer Lilies or Nothing at All and B.B. and Red, and the novellas Hell’s Nerds and Belle’s Christmas Carol. He’s also been a finalist in the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge numerous times, and has featured stories in the anthologies UnCommon Evil, Once Upon a Time in Gravity City, and My Peculiar Family II.

Stephen is the creator, owner, and a regular contributor to the website Television Woodshed. He’s a hardcore fan of the Houston Texans, despite living in the Hub of the Universe his whole life, and believes Mark Twain was correct about pretty much everything.

Stephen lives on Boston’s North Shore with his wife, Teresa.

1. Please tell us something about yourself.

Okay, here goes: I’m Batman. Just kidding, no, I’m not Batman. Although that’s exactly what Batman would say, isn’t it? Never mind, forget I said anything about Batman.

Jjspina: You do have a quirky sense of humor, Stephen! That’s what I like about you!

2. When did you know that you wanted to be an author?

Well, I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember, so I guess I’ve always been working toward becoming an author. Of course, if I had known how hard it was to be an author, I might have just stayed writing dirty limericks as my creative outlet.

jjspina: Oh, I see! Didn’t expect that.

3. What process do you need in order to write?

Give me a laptop and a stretch of uninterrupted time and I’ll give you the world. In written form.

jjspina: That’s great! Now just to find that precious time!

4. How do you come up with ideas for your stories?

The ideas tend to find me, actually. I’m usually bored, thinking of something completely unrelated and the story idea will just flash right across my brain. That’s a wonderful feeling.

jjspina: Ah, yes, I  know what you mean.

5. What projects are you currently working on?

I’m finishing up my second novel, Typo Squad II, which, barring any unforeseen circumstances, will be coming out in June 2018.

jjspina: Good luck with it, Stephen!

6. What do you expect to accomplish in 2018?

Well hopefully, the sky’s the limit. The novel has been such an undertaking that I haven’t looked much past it, but I think it will be fun to get back to writing short stories, either for submission or to pull together as another short story collection.

jjspina: Sounds good! I enjoy short stories as I am sure many others do.

7. What hobbies do you have when you are not writing?

As a nerd, it’s important for me to spend my leisure time on nerdy things, so I do. I love a good game of chess, checking out the latest superhero movie, and attending comic-cons.

jjspina: Well, there are plenty of superhero movies to check out too.

8. What is your target audience for your book?

I think proofreaders, copy editors, and anyone with a real and abiding love for the English language will enjoy the Typo Squad series. Also, anyone who likes a good, groan-worthy pun.

jjspina: Sound interesting, Stephen.

9. Please share your books with us and a synopsis of each.

Typos are lethal to 98% of the population. Be thankful Typo Squad is on patrol …

Richard Shonnary was a Typo Squad legend. He had a gift for seeking out and destroying errorist cells, and was almost singlehandedly responsible for bringing about the end of errorism. But one night, a single errant bullet fired by his brother prematurely ended his career.

Convinced to come out of self-imposed retirement after five years, Richard unknowingly gives rise to his greatest enemy — Anton Nym. Will he and his new partner be able to stop this latest threat before deadly typos are unleashed upon an unwitting world?

Belle’s Christmas Carol

We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserable old miser who rediscovers the joy of Christmas thanks to the intervention of Jacob Marley’s ghost and three spirits.

But what if there was nothing supernatural going on that fateful Christmas Eve? What if everything that happened to Scrooge that night was carefully planned and choreographed to force him to change his ways?

And what if the mastermind behind it was Scrooge’s long-lost love?

Discover a whole new take on Dickens’ classic tale in Belle’s Christmas Carol!

10. Please share your links and where to purchase your books.

All of my books are available on amazon and are listed on my Amazon Author’s Page.

jjspina: I will be checking them out soon!

11. What advice would you give prospective authors?

If you’re going to be an author, know what you’re getting yourself into. Whether you’re published through a traditional house or you go the self-pub route, it’s going to be a lot of work, and success will come slowly. Still, there’s nothing quite like writing a book and holding it in your hands, so if you really want it, go for it. I did.

jjspina: Good advice, Stephen.

12. Is there anything else you would like to share?

Yes, one last thought. There’s only one way for an author to truly succeed, and that’s by helping fellow authors succeed. Never think of other authors as competition. They are your brothers and sisters and are on the same journey you are, so do whatever you can to build them up. And keep writing!

jjspina: Amen to that, Stephen.

Thank you, Stephen Lomer, for spending time with me and my readers today to share a little about yourself and your books. It was a sincere pleasure to have you here. You are now a member of Jemsbooks Blog family. Please feel free to stop by again to share any new projects you have. Keep writing and believing, Stephen!
