On Saturday at 1:00 I attended the Kids Coop play, Seussical, put on by Kids Coop Theatre in Derry, NH.  The Theatre is housed in the Adams Memorial Building.  This play was an unforgettable experience!  What a delightful show with plenty of colorful costumes and props and background (made by talented staff and parents) and amusing songs.

There is a tremendous amount of diligent work and effort that goes into putting on a professional level performance with children of all ages from grammar school to high school.  The staff is dedicated and talented and work extremely hard to make each performance top notch.  This is not the first play I have seen by Kids Coop and each time I am amazed at the level of perfection that the staff reaches with these kids.

Here is a picture of the cast that I took from the cast book.  We were not allowed to take pictures during the performance.  The cast was posted on a large board with all their pictures.  The pit band did an impressive rendition of all the songs and even wore their own funny hats to participate in the spirit of the show.

My grandson, Dan Cain, is a Freshman in Londonderry High School and had one of the leads, Horton, the elephant.  He, along with his fellow actors and singers, is very talented and thoroughly enjoys his craft.  You could see the joy and delight not only on the actors’ faces but on the faces of the audience which included many young children with their parents.  I, as a proud grandparent, was in awe of the talent and found myself drawn into the story like a child who believes in the tooth fairy.

The story is about Horton, the elephant, who hears a Who which is a very small person, smaller than dust.  No one believes poor Horton and he is made fun of relentlessly by all the other animals.  The story is told by the Cat in the Hat through the eyes of one of the Whos, named Jojo.  Jojo is very much in tune with Horton who is also a loner and thinks differently than anyone else.  Horton and Jojo form a bond and he promises to watch over Jojo and all the other Whos.  Horton does make a friend or two along the way and it does have a happy ending which left all the young children in the audience relieved.

At the end of the show I visited with my grandson to congratulate him on his exceptional performance and my husband snapped this picture. 

At the finale I managed to take a few pictures of the actors taking their well deserved  bows. 

It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and my husband and I left with uplifted spirits and I had a noticeable bounce in my steps.  That is pretty good for someone my age!

Congratulations to Kids Coop Theatre and staff for a remarkable show!  I look forward to many more.  Keep them coming!
