I woke up this morning 1/16/24 to snow, snow and more snow. It is expected to continue snowing all day. I love it as long as I don’t have to go out or drive in it.
At breakfast I snapped all these photos of the hungry, cold birds who were vying for a chance to snatch some dried worms in our bluebird feeder. The bluebirds are comical critters. They get along well but can be vocal to each other if one pushes too much to get the worms. I chuckled at the shenanigans of these beautiful birds. They actually fit three birds inside this little feeder while another complained on the outside as he waited for a chance to have a tasty worm.
These photos below show sparrows feeding in the bluebird feeder. They are not as patient and will not allow a fellow sparrow to share the feeding as the bluebirds did. There was also a gorgeous cardinal who was at another feeder. He was quite prominent against the snow.
I never tire of watching them in action. The birds are also at our fountain that is heated. They love it and jump right in to warm up. Here is a photo below of three birds (two bluebirds and one cardinal) drinking from it. They almost appear to be talking to each other.
I got a photo in action with the cardinal flying right out of it after taking a dip. But unfortunately the action is not available to feature here.
I hope you enjoyed my photos as much as I did taking them. Although I do not take part in feeding these birds I do thoroughly revel in watching them in action.
If you are in this snowstorm I hope you are staying safe and warm. Enjoy!

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Today I am showcasing my children’s book, Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier. Lucy was a toy terrier mix that I loved for 16 years. She did all the things that I mention in this book and was quite talented in her own way. She never did sit when told to, or stop barking when she got annoying, or come when commanded. She did what she wanted in her own time and way. That was Lucy, but she was adorable, sweet, loving, kind and attentive to me when I needed a friend.
MOM’S CHOICE AWARD – SILVER MEDAL WINNER!
This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book. She loved my spaghetti with homemade sauce, watched TV shows featuring animals, hated baths, “sang” when music was played, and had two cherished possessions, a knotted rag and a ball. I hope you will enjoy reading about Lucy. She is no longer with us and can never be replaced.
If you have ever had a dog you will know how wonderful it is. They are your best friend and companion in good times and bad. They never judge you and always give their love unconditionally. You know dog spelled backwards is God. Looking into the eyes of a loving pet is like looking at God. Lucy saved me during a difficult time in my life and I will always be grateful for her love and support. I miss her terribly still! I did have other dogs after her but none compared to her in the same way. She and I bonded like she was my first child. Sigh!
Lucy – Word Art
Here are some reviews from happy readers.
Although I do not have a dog at the moment I have had the urge to buy one as I get older. I miss the unconditional love that Lucy once gave me without any judgements. Dogs give you such joy and help you when times get tough by just being there. They keep you sane, healthier and happy. My husband and I will probably get one once we stop traveling. I do not want to put a pet into a kennel while I go away. That’s not fair. I do not have any family without dogs to care for one. I hope if you have a pet that you appreciate all that they give to you without anything in return.
If you haven’t brought Lucy home to your children, it’s a good time to do that now so that they will appreciate the love that dogs give us. It may teach them to be kind to animals at the same time, and that’s a good thing.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
I am showcasing today my children’s book, Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab. Clarence was a real hermit crab that was once a pet in our fish tank. He could be cantankerous at times but he was loved and appreciated by how well he kept our tank clean.
The story came about one day after I watched him in action cleaning the tank and keeping his fellow inhabitants away while he did his job. He knew how to protect himself even if …well I won’t tell you too much. You need to read this story about such a special crustacean as Clarence. He was one of a kind. Bring him home to your children to enjoy and watch them get excited about this lovely creature as they learn all about hermit crabs. It is a fun and entertaining book with real-life photos of Clarence Henry in action.
PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world? Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lived in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank. He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells. We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.
I wrote many other posts sharing all about our fish tanks and their inhabitants. Caring for our fish and cleaning the tanks are hard work. My husband takes care of them but Clarence Henry did help a lot with his fastidious way of cleaning the bottom. He saved my husband hours of cleaning. We miss him terribly! We have not been able to find another one like him. Sigh! He is our second hermit crab.
Here are some reviews from happy readers about Clarence.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Today I am showcasing my children’s book – Jeffrey the Jittery Giraffe. I wrote this story for a little boy who was afraid of loud noises. I never met the boy but was told by his grandmother who came to a book signing one day many years ago. She left me her phone number and I promised to write a story just for him. I tried to contact her to send along this book for her grandson but she never called me back. The person who answered sounded confused and maybe did not understand my message to have the woman call me back. Sigh! I never did connect with her even after trying again but just got a hang up. He must have thought I was a crank call.
PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
Jeffrey is a nervous giraffe due to a terrible storm on the day of his birth. He remembers that day and is frightened of any kind of noise or unexpected things happening to him. His mother tells him that he is stronger than he thinks.
One day Jeffrey meets another giraffe who needs his help. Read this story in rhyme and find out what important lesson Jeffrey learns when he thinks of others before himself.
If you have a child who is skittish about thunder, lightning or other loud noises, this is the book for them. It will teach an important lesson that will help them forget about being afraid.
Here are some of what others are saying about Jeffrey.
It was fun to write about a giraffe since they are such unusual creatures. Each time I choose a subject I get all the information I can about the animal in question to share with children. I think it is important that they learn new things each time they read a book. I enjoy learning along with them as I write. If you haven’t taken Jeffrey home to share with your children, now is the time to do that. He is waiting and wants to teach your children not to be afraid. Parents love Jeffrey too!

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
This post is showcasing my children’s book – Colby the Courageous Cat. Colby was my daughter’s cat. He was an independent, free and wild creature who came and went in and out of our house at will. He loved being outdoors and was quite a hunter leaving little offerings at our back door.
PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
Colby is one of a litter of four kittens. The kittens get into all kinds of trouble. Being the biggest and strongest, Colby’s mother expects him to watch over the smaller kittens and keep them safe. Read and find out what Colby does to meet his mother’s expectations.
When I wrote this story I wanted to portray Colby as a kind, caring and sweet cat. He wasn’t anything like that in life but he was loved. He was a free spirit who needed to be outside and only came home to get some food if he couldn’t forage on his own or for an ear scratch or pet. My kids loved him. He was with us for nine years before I had to give him up for adoption. I had moved into a condo and could not keep him there safely. I feared that he would get hit by a car or wander off and not come back. Sigh! I am sure he was adopted into a family who could care for him as we once did and keep him safe. It is always sad to give a pet away but sometimes we have to do it to protect them from harm. I did not want to see him injured by the traffic that was around my new place. I shed many tears when I had to give him up and wanted this book to keep him in my memory and share with others what a wild and beautiful cat he was.
If you haven’t brought Colby home to your children, now is the time to introduce them to this lovely cat who demonstrates the love he has for his siblings. Teach your children to be kind to each other and how important it is to have a sibling or siblings.
Here are what others are saying about Colby.
As in all my children’s books Colby carries important life lessons as illustrated above in the Word Art I created.

I am showcasing my seventh children’s book today, Sebastian Meets Marvin the Monkey. This book was written for my youngest grandson when he was two years old. After I wrote a book for his sister he wanted one about his stuffed animal too. He has a monkey that he carried around everywhere and it was always tucked into bed at night with him. Sebastian is now ten years old and still has Marvin but he sits with other toys that are no longer his favorite. Sad to say for Marvin the Monkey. But children do grow up.
This story will help children see the importance of being kind to animals.
PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
When a little boy, Sebastian, goes to the zoo he meets Marvin the monkey. Sebastian loves monkeys and likes to watch them climb the trees. Something amazing happens when Sebastian’s toy phone suddenly plays music.

In this post I am showcasing my children’s books, Jesse the Precocious Polar Bear. I wrote this story for a little boy I met while vacationing in Aruba one year. I started a conversation with this little boy in the water and asked him what kind of animal he liked. Of course I spoke with his parents first so that they would not be nervous about a stranger speaking to their son. Since then I became friends with the family after writing this book and presenting it to him the following year. He and his family still vacation every year the same as we do. Jesse is now a teenager and handsome as ever.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
This is the fourth children’s book I published, Lamby the Lonely Lamb. This book was written and dedicated to my granddaughter when she was three years old. She had a stuffed lamb that she carried everywhere with her and slept with it too. She is now ten years old and a beautiful young lady.
My granddaughter was thrilled to have her own book about a lamb and showed it off at school proudly. It was a fun story to write which was challenging since my granddaughter said she wanted a story about a purple lamb. With a little creative license I came up with this story. I hope you and your children will enjoy it as much as my Leah did.
MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS – SILVER MEDAL!
Lamby is a very different lamb because of his color. He is lonely and only wants to be accepted by the other lambs. Find out what lesson Lamby learns when a little girl, Leah, comes to the farm where Lamby lives.
I remember the first time that I purchased the lamb for her on a trip to the mall with my daughter. I spotted the adorable lamb and showed it to my granddaughter. She grabbed it out of my hands and wouldn’t let it go. She loved it since then so much that my daughter purchased another one just like it in case the first one was lost. The funny thing about that was that my granddaughter knew which one was the original one. She named the second one too and kept it close but not as close as the first lamb.
With all of my children’s books there are valuable life lessons that children will learn. I think it is important that children learn these lessons that will carry them throughout life.

Lamby The Lonely Lamb is a cute story teaching a lesson in adapting, but not conforming to what the norm is. In other words, just because you are different (in this case a different color) doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t fit in: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case it was, a little girl dressed in purple from head to toe, exactly the same color of the little lamb, who was different than all the other lambs, which were white. It also teaches a lesson in tolerance for those who are different than the so-called norm. Janice Spina, the author hits just the right note in teaching a valuable lesson in acceptance in a world where being different doesn’t matter after all. The illustrations were adorable and well done
