Do your children love crustaceans?

We have had several crustaceans in our saltwater tanks and freshwater tanks. I was so enamored by these creatures that I wrote two stories about my favorite ones – a hermit crab and a crayfish.

Here is Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab:

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!

Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world? Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lives in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank. He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells. We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.

Clarence Henry was the second hermit crab that we had in our saltwater tank. We also had one that we named Conan since he destroyed all the detritus and food that was at the bottom of the tank. He was probably the best cleaner of the three that we had. The last one was called Sebas Jr. after my grandson who named him. Sebas was the smallest of the crabs and didn’t do as good a job of cleaning as the other two. He did not last long in the tank either. I guess he wasn’t as healthy and strong. Clarence Henry was my favorite hermit crab. My husband, John, created the cover for this book as well as the others.

Here is the Jerry the Crabby Crayfish:

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!

Jerry is a crabby crayfish who all day long wishes he could be a fish. One day something happens in the fish tank that makes Jerry change his mind. Read about the valuable lesson Jerry learns.

This was the first crayfish we had in our freshwater tank. He was quite the character who entertained us daily with his antics. I mentioned what he did in the book. My grandchildren loved him and would do all they could to get him riled up by taping on his tank. When they did this, Jerry would raise his claws at them in warning and hide in his cave until they left him alone. Many times I had to tell them to stop bothering Jerry so the poor crustacean would get some rest. We all missed him after he passed. So sad. He was such a brilliant shade of blue as in the photo. He was beautiful!

We did have another crayfish that was much smaller and red in color. It did not last long and was not anything like Jerry. Aquarium stores no longer carry crayfish for sale. Sad to say. We have shut down our freshwater tank now and just have the 95 gallon saltwater tank. This tank is enough to maintain for my husband.

Both of these books would make perfect gifts for your children this Christmas or anytime. They would also be welcome additions to school libraries as resource material about crustaceans.

If your kids love to learn about water creatures, these are the books for them to have this Christmas, birthday or other occasion. Your kids will also learn important life lessons from these creatures that will make you happy.

Jemsbooks Children’s books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Clarence Henry will teach children to work hard, do the best that you can do and be happy with who you are.

Jerry will teach your children that it is okay to be different, be the best you can be and be happy with who you are.

These books were a joy to write and hopefully they will be a joy to read to your children this Christmas. Watch your children’s eyes light up as they look at the colorful illustrations created by my husband and read the rhyming prose that I created for them.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again soon. You are always welcome! Don’t forget to review books for authors. We will love you for your efforts to help spread word about our work.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

I’ve been meaning to ask how your fish tank is doing. Is the anemone still with you?
