I have always loved elephants, especially baby elephants. If you ever watch them in action, you will see that they act like children, which they essentially are. They are adorable! My love of elephants brought about my first children’s book, Louey the Lazy Elephant.
WINNER OF SILVER MEDAL – MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS 10/29/20
Louey is an adorable but lazy elephant who likes to sleep late. One day Louey wakes up to find that the whole herd has moved on without him. Louey is very upset but he is determined to find his herd. Does Louey find his way to his family and friends? Does he learn that it doesn’t pay to be lazy? Take Louey home with you and find out.
What animals do your children love? All my children’s books are about animals or small children. I think children relate better to young animals. Maybe they see themselves in these animals in many ways and can relate to their feelings. Please check out all my books for your children to enjoy. They all carry valuable life lessons and never have anything that you have to worry about as parents. They are feel-good stories with all kinds of animals that teach children how to behave.
This book has been one of my most popular of all my 23 children’s books. It’s not like any other book on Amazon since it was done in coloring style by my husband, John. It was the first book he ever illustrated and also my favorite. If your kids love to color, I’m sure they will love adding this book to their library shelf.
Other readers have also told me that Louey is their favorite of all my books. That is the reason why I won’t let my husband update this book in a more digital style.
Here are what other readers are saying about this book:

When I write Louey many years ago, I thought about what it would feel like if your parents moved without you. I then knew what I would say in this story and how brave I would have to make Louey to encourage children to also be brave in all kinds of situations.
I read this book to my youngest grandson’s class and they were worried about Louey but encouraged him along his way. They clapped at the ending which pleased me greatly.
Please read this story along with your children to enjoy it together and ask your children what they thought about it. Was Louey lazy? Was he brave? Did he learn his lesson about listening to his mother? You will be surprised how attentive your children will be as you read it to them. I would love to hear their thoughts. Children are so honest and keenly aware of things that you wouldn’t expect them to be.
As you will see in these photos, my husband and I love elephants. We have them all over our house in all sizes. I don’t often share them with others but I thought your children might enjoy seeing them after you read the book.
The first elephant below was made by my youngest grandson. It reminds me the most of Louey. What do you think? Did you know that the trunk of the elephant is good luck when it is up? I think it displays how the elephant feels – happy. Humans are like that too. If we are sad our heads goes downward and our smiles become upside down.

Elephants are cool and I sure enjoyed seeing them in Thailand. What a sweet book.
Ooh, you saw some in person, in the flesh! Wow, that must have been something to see! I would love to see them someday and not in a zoo. 🤪🐘
I got to feed them. It was amazing!! A few pictures https://darlenefoster.wordpress.com/2024/02/23/there-be-elephants/

Aw… I love ellies!
Me too! They are so sweet!
My grandson likes panda, otters, and ‘hairy coos’ – highland sheep.
I haven’t written about any of them. Maybe a future book.
