Recently we had some visitors and a pumpkin that slowly disappeared! Let me share first about the disappearing pumpkin, a groundhog and some deer.

In our backyard there is a pond and plenty of trees and water behind the trees where deer, coyotes, Fischer cats, fox, turtles, rabbits, turkeys, snakes, feral cats and a groundhog find homes or areas to visit. I am lucky sometimes to catch some of these creatures in photos that I share with readers from time to time.

The most comedic happenings of all took place not long ago after we placed a large pumpkin on a berm near our front deck as in above photo. It was a lovely pumpkin and we admired it and shot a photo of it after placing there. I don’t know exactly when it slowly was being eaten or by what creature until one day I spied a groundhog that has been living in our pond area under the fence. I have seen him come out from time to time to eat what we drop there for the birds. He doesn’t seem to be fussy and will eat anything he can get his little claws on. I caught him one day eating the pumpkin but didn’t get to snap him.

Each day I would look outside and notice the pumpkin was getting smaller. I went outside to inspect it one day and noticed it had teeth marks on it. Each day after that I snapped a photo of it as it got smaller and smaller. Here are the photos of the progression of the pumpkin being eaten. There was also another culprit that my neighbor spotted one day and sent me the evidence as seen below. John holds what is left of the pumpkin in the last photo. Sad, huh? Well, the groundhog was happy with an increasing girth that is making if difficult for him to fit underneath the fence! Haha!

We did have a good laugh about this and our neighbors enjoyed hearing about it too and seeing the doe in action above.

One day coming home recently we spotted these visitors – a trio of deer, a buck, doe and a yearling.

I told John to stop the car and as I talked softly to them they stopped and stood in place listening as I snapped these photos. How sweet they are! I was thrilled and continue to feel that way each time I see any. They are beautiful creatures, so elegant, swift of foot and agile.
