I am pleased to welcome this talented teen who builds fire trucks out of Legos. I spoke with him recently and asked if he would like to be featured on my blog. Well, let me introduce Cristian to you and he can share a little bit about himself and his work.
jjspina: The floor is open to you, Cristian.
Cristian: Thank you, Mrs. Spina, for inviting me today.
jjspina: My pleasure, Cristian.
Cristian: Here are photos of me and my trucks.

jjspina: How old are you, Cristian?
Cristian: I am 17 years old.
jjspina: What do you do in your spare time?
Cristian: In my spare time, I like to hang out with my family and friends, and go skiing with my dad and younger brother.
jjspina: Sounds like fun times. What is your favorite genre to read?
Cristian: I do not like to read. If I have to read a book, it is usually for school purposes where we may have to talk about it in a class, take a test, or write some sort of essay about it. If I had to pick, my favorite genre would have to be nonfiction or mysteries.
jjspina: Sorry to hear that. I was going to offer you one of my books. If you change your mind about reading, please let me know. Please share a little about yourself and how you got started working with legos and then making the fire trucks.
Cristian: I have been around Lego sets since I was 5 years old. I still remember building the newly purchased sets with my dad, and as I got older, I started to modify the sets that I had to make them my own. Fast forward to the start of the pandemic in 2020, I found a Lego software for my computer called Stud.io, where you drag and drop different Lego pieces onto a blank “canvas” to create different models with no instructions. I started to mess around with the software, creating different models like small structures, and a few small vehicles as a way to just become familiar with the software and to see how all the different pieces are categorized.
A few days later, one of the local fire departments got two new trucks delivered to them. After looking at the pictures posted online, I built them on my computer. Once finished with these, I believe I did one of Boston’s trucks. This continued for a few more months with various other local departments before I decided that I was going to try and build one truck for every department in the state on my computer. There are 363 departments in Massachusetts, and to this day, I have trucks made for 307 of them!
Not only do I do this for fun, but I also made a business out of it. After I shared some pictures of a model I made for its respectful department, they asked if I would be interested in selling them a model of it! How could I say no to that!! After the purchase, I slowly started to get more people coming to me and asking if they could purchase something I made from their department. I use a site called BrickLink, which is like Ebay but just for Lego pieces to get the parts that I need for each order. Instead of waiting over 3 months to get the pieces directly from Lego Headquarters in Denmark, they come from all over the United States and arrive at my door within a week! I have branched out from fire trucks to also do ambulances, police vehicles, tow trucks, and utility trucks, as a way to show my appreciation to all of the local first responders. When a customer receives their order, they are absolutely blown away with the final product!
jjspina: That is wonderful, Cristian. You are quite a talented, young entrepreneur. You create beautiful trucks that are so life-like and look exactly like the actual trucks. I can see from your incredible work why they would be blown away! I am quite impressed with your skills myself. I wish you much success in all your future endeavors.
Thank you so much, Cristian, for stopping by today to share your talent with me and my readers. It was a pleasure to have you here. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing with Lego building.
Cristian: Thank you. I will keep in touch and let you know if I change my mind about a book.
