Books Read and Reviewed in May 2023!

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of May of 2023. Here are the 6 books I read and reviewed for May. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.

If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.

When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.

We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some others are so memorable they take our breaths away! While others are sweet, sensitive and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all of these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they help you decide if you would like to read these books.

Eternal Road was a creative and intriguing premise to this two-book series. I did not read these books in order but enjoyed both. I actually liked this book even more than the second since I got to know the characters in more detail and less about the devil who kept making several appearances in the second book providing for a creepier aspect in the story.

Though this was a fantasy the author created this tale so effectively that I felt as if I was reading something that could be true or at least could happen. It begins with the tragic murder of a little girl that broke my heart just reading about it.

As the story progresses the author introduced us to a male character who plays an important role throughout the story along with the female protagonist. These two characters comprise most of the story going through tumultuous times in history through time travel.

A thoroughly different and intense story about life after death and what could possibly happen that I found quite enjoyable.

This is the last book in the Gretchen White Series which was another blockbuster of a story. I enjoyed reading about Dr. White and her sociopathic tendencies as a psychologist and paid analyst for the police who works with Detective Lauren Marconi on murder cases.

Gretchen is one of the most fascinating characters I have ever read in this type of genre. She has a quirky sense of humor even though she has no affect, being unemotional in the most difficult and horrifying times. She knows how to control herself and doesn’t worry about what others think of her and her methods to solve a mystery. She works well along with Lauren who has learned how to handle her. They have become close as close as one can get to a sociopath.

In this mystery Lauren must deal with some of the most difficult cases, kidnapping and murder of young boys. She fears for her own son, Elijah’s life when the suspected killer comes too close to her son. She has to make the toughest decision of her life in order to protect him. What she does could effect them both for the rest of their lives. Gretchen steps in to do whatever she can, working in grey areas, for she doesn’t see things in black and white.

I loved this book and all the varied characters good and bad. I hated to see this series come to an end but look forward to more entertaining stories from this talented writer who I’m sure has many more stories to share.

Morgan Dane, a strong protagonist, dealing with the loss of her husband in Iraq and left with three young daughters, tries to defend a young man who is a neighbor of a heinous crime. Her strength and determination propel this story forward as we follow the killer through his thoughts.

A compelling story that kept me riveted and turning pages to see justice prevail. A little romance is blossoming as Morgan finds help from a man she is strongly attracted to but fearful of releasing her heart to so as to protect not only herself but also her children from hurt.

An enjoyable read!

A story of discovery, heartache, loss, finding oneself and beginning anew. Nita Shah tells her story simultaneously while her daughter shares her thoughts about why her mother abandoned her when she was a young child.

The story is based in India as Nita’s daughter, Sophie, goes on a quest that takes her to Paris and the USA to find her mother. What she discovers is not what she expected. She must deal with the some surprising revelations that will change her forever. Can she deal with everything she learned about her mother or will she ever find peace over her mother’s transgressions.

A heartfelt and emotional read that may bring you to tears.

Frozen Stiff is a story that will keep you guessing until the explosive ending. The story has a strong female protagonist in Chase Adams, a FBI recruit. Who was a former narcotics officer who has had her own share of trials and losses.

Agent Adams is given the job of assisting another agent in solving four horrendous murders which may or not be connected in some way. She finds that no one in authority is willing to listen to her since she is a rookie regardless of her uncanny ability to analyze the crimes and come up with a plausible solution to finding the killer.

This is just the first book in this series that will grip you from beginning to end so strongly that you will be picking up the next books in the series soon after. An enjoyable thriller with mind-boggling suspense and heart-stopping action.

Beyond the Moonlit Sea was a mystery full of suspense, romance, and twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew what was happening things changed again. The main protagonist is Olivia Hamilton but there is another woman, Melanie, in the mix whose life intertwines with Olivia’s. Both of these women were involved with a handsome, Blue-eyed pilot, named Dean, who captures their hearts. But is he what he seems?

The story has two timelines, one with Olivia and the other with Melanie. They are told simultaneously without either woman knowing about the other. The suspense ratchets up when Dean disappears and the mystery begins for Olivia who is now married to him. She cannot accept his strange disappearance and believes that he could still be alive somewhere.

This story held my attention until the satisfying conclusion. A worthwhile and intriguing read!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post. Come back again soon! You are always welcome!
