When we have a snowstorm in New Hampshire, it is always exciting to look out the next morning to see what traveled around our yard. The footprints in the snow are proof that there are a lot of animals in our area.

Here are some photos I snapped on a walk recently as the weather got warmer. I’m glad I captured these before the snow melted away. Today it is raining and there is very little snow left!

Most of these appear to be deer tracks. Sometimes we see rabbit tracks and other times cats or turkeys.

I find it fascinating to see how many animals roam our neighborhood each day and night. We are unaware of them most of the time. We do see some, every once in a while, by accident when we look out our windows. I never get tired of seeing deer. They are magnificent animals.

One day we spotted a young deer running for its life around our pond. Right behind it was one coyote and then another one close on its heels. We watched the deer disappear into the woods bordering our property but never knew what happened. Did it escape? Who knows? It mainly depends on how healthy it was and how fast it could run. The coyotes were swift and hungry by the looks of them.

What do you see in your neck of the woods? We have also seen fox, ground hogs, great blue heron and heard fisher cats. Some in New Hampshire have seen bear but not now since they are hibernating. They are out in the spring. We have to watch out for our bird feeders at that time. They have been known to take them down with a vengeance.
