Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of December of 2021. Here are the 10 books I read and reviewed for December. I might have read even more if I didn’t have another WIP. But, I always seemed to have a WIP! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look these books over soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
Here are a couple of THANK YOU word art trees to all my online friends/fellow authors/beta readers/reviewers/readers and supporters. Thank you all so much for your unending support all year long in 2021! If I have forgotten anyone, I apologize! Thank you to all my readers here too!
Before We Were Yours is a haunting and riveting story of child abuse by an orphanage in Tennessee. They work under the guise of helping place children in good homes. But what they really do is steal children from their parents and force the parents to sign them over to the orphanage in order to sell them to the highest bidders.
The story which is detailed and horrific is told through the eyes of one twelve-year-old, Rill Foss, who along with her three siblings was stolen from their river boat home. Rill tries desperately to keep her siblings together and watch over them but it becomes too difficult for her to continue to do so.
It is unconscionable what these poor children had to endure under the control of an evil woman who only did this to gain power and money. It is a heartbreaking story but at the same time uplifting in its completion.
I highly recommend this unforgettable story.

Wilbur is back again in this cute little story about the red tractor. He gets a new home and has a surprise when he arrives there. Children will love adorable little Wilbur who is shy and has difficulty meeting new people. Wilbur will teach them to be patient and learn how to adjust to new people and places.
The illustrations are colorful and well done and will engage and delight children. They add depth to the story. A lovely sequel to Wilbur’s first book.
The Last Thing She Ever Did is an unforgettable book! It gripped me from the first page and had me holding my breath and praying for Charlie who suddenly disappears from his mother’s sight. It only took a few minutes for her to take her eyes off of him.
Something like this is the fear of all parents – the disappearance of a young child. This book is full of dysfunctional characters. The reader cannot feel empathy for any of them except for poor Charlie. These characters create a scenario that is terrifying. You will not be able to put this book down.
The author did a commendable job of creating a story that keeps the reader engrossed with heart pounding and nerves tingling until the story is at its completion.
I highly recommend this book! You will not be able to forget it! Be prepared to be shocked!
I won a copy of this book from the author.
Ghostly Interference is more than a love story. It is a story full of passion, romance, heartbreaking loss, child abuse, paranormal activity, and how love can heal a broken spirit.
The two main characters, Jag Peters and Rena Jett, are from two different worlds. Jag has always lived a comfortable life with two parents while
Rena was thrown into the state system without a mother and father. She was at the mercy of foster homes where she was abused and treated like less than human. Her only savior at that time was an older brother, Sam, who tried to keep her safe. This horrendous childhood broke her spirit and forced her to distrust anyone who tried to come close to her. When her brother died in the service in Afghanistan she felt as if she had died with him.
Jag meets Rena by nearly hitting her while she is driving her motorcycle. This incident begins their story. It is a passionate tale between them that heats up many times throughout the story.
The author created two characters with their own heartaches that touch your heart as they struggle to find love. The added paranormal touch of Rena’s brother’s spirit appearing brings the story full circle emphasizing that love transcends death.
I highly recommend this lovely story that will have you believing love heals all.
Believing in Horses Out West is a story about a surprisingly strong and resilient young girl of 14, Sadie Navarro. She has done some amazing things in her short life by saving horses and relocating them to new homes.
Sadie travels to Montana to the ranch to check on the most recent horse she saved, Sunny. She wants to make sure that Sunny is safe and happy in his new home. What she finds there in this horse ranch is varied. She traveled with her mother, father, brother and grandmother under the auspices of having a good time riding and taking part in different activities led by the ranch hands.
She meets the main ranch hand, Luke, who doesn’t like her right away. She feels uncomfortable in his presence and doesn’t know why. Some interesting things happen and Sadie is thrust into the midst of some dangerous activities.
The author has created an interesting story about horses with a mystery blending into the tale. This is a book that all horse lovers will want to read. Even though I am not at all an equestrian I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Olga D’Agostino is a creative author. She creates unusual and entertaining books for children that teach them about important issues. In this book Grandpa learns that he has a sick heart that needs to be fixed.
Grandpa has to make some necessary changes in his diet and add exercise to his daily regime in order to get healthy again. The illustrator does an exemplary job of showing the heart as a separate entity and how it is fixed by the doctor.
The importance of a good diet and exercise is emphasized as Grandpa’s health improves. The added comedic passages about his heart being repaired with a cow valve is funny, reason why Grandpa moos like a cow.
A nice addition to children’s library for any occasion.

This is an entertaining story about Grandpa who does things his own way even if they are different. The author has done it again with this creative book about being your own person.
Grandma asks Grandpa to do some trips for her to the store, ice cream parlor, Home Depot, pizza place, etc. What Grandpa does is comical. He doesn’t just go to the local stores to pick up what he needs. He goes way beyond that and worries Grandma when he doesn’t return right away.
Children will laugh at Grandpa as he travels far away to stores in different locations to purchase the items. They will learn that it is okay to be different, to do things in your own inimitable way.
Another wonderful addition to children’s libraries that they will enjoy for years to come and want to pass on to their own children one day
Their Last Breath is a suspenseful thriller that is rife with greed, trafficking and murder. There are more suspects as the story grows which kept this reader guessing who did what and when would the killers be apprehended and put to justice.
This is the third book in this series with Detective Carter who is called in out of retirement to aid in solving this mysterious case involving the murder of six women. When some of the evidence doesn’t add up Carter digs deeper with the help of Detective Becky Harris who suspects that something is amiss. That they are intentionally being led in the wrong direction.
The author created a mystery thriller that kept me spellbound until the satisfactory conclusion. A perfect ending to this series.
An unforgettable read! When We fall is a story of love, struggle, depression, betrayal, and sacrifice. It encompasses so many feelings that it can overwhelm the reader!
The author has created an immensely emotional and heartbreaking story of three people, two women and a man who are inseparable in school and growing up. They do everything together. But one day they must make a choice who is one too many in this relationship.
I felt the angst and the heartbreak of the characters as they work to sort out their struggles, feelings and lives. It is a book that I will not forget. It is a read that I highly recommend if you have ever loved someone more than life itself.
This is a well-written story of an independent calico cat, Nyda, who loves to roam and search for adventures and friends. The story is told through the eyes of the kitten as she experiences new things and discovers that she needs a family and a home.
The author created an imaginative story with poetic passages of nature, seasons and of her cat, Nyda’s, adventures from the time she was a kitten until she is a full grown cat. The kitten is taken too soon from her mother’s care because of her mischievous nature, fearless personality and inquisitive spirit. She is quite a remarkable feline who gave much back to all who knew her.
If you are a lover of cats you will feel an affinity toward Nyda and understand her quirky nature.
