Blurb:

Clarence Henry is different from other hermit crabs. He came to his new home minus one claw and a leg. He needs to protect himself until he can grow new appendages. Will Clarence Henry be able to meet the challenges in his new water world?

Clarence Henry was a real aquatic hermit crab who lives in a saltwater fish tank in our home. We watched him interact with the other creatures in the tank.

He was resilient, intelligent, and a joy to have as a pet. We took some photos of him as he grew his claw and leg and changed shells.

We shared these photos and facts about hermit crabs in the back of the book. I hope you will enjoy them. This book will make a wonderful resource for classrooms.

This book was written when we had a hermit crab in our 90 gallon fish tank. Clarence Henry was quite an interesting fellow. He came to us from an aquarium store. We didn’t realize that he was missing a front right leg and claw until we dropped him into the tank. This story tells his tale of how he persevered even with his handicap to do the best job he could in the tank and let the other creatures of the tank know how important his job was to them.

Children and adults love this book because of the important life lessons it imparts to children. Even if you are different from others that should not prevent you from being the best you can be, always do the best job you can at everything you do, and accept others who are different from you with kindness.

  2. How awesome. Congrats!
I have an aquarium myself and obviously the hermit crab is in there.
I really like watching him, he moves very comically 😁
