Fall is officially here!

I love fall! It’s my favorite time of year. Which season is yours?

I snapped a few photos of the changing colors of the trees in my neighborhood. My favorite color of the trees is red. We have maples all over our hood. Some change to yellow, others to orange and a few change to red. They are incredibly beautiful!

Red beauty outside my kitchen window – 2021

If you do not live in New England you do not have this. People from all over the country come to New England to experience this beauty. It is breathtaking! I have this right in my front yard. I still can’t get enough of the amazing transformation of the trees. They change so swiftly that it feels like a blink of an eye. Once the trees begin to complete the cycle they drop their leaves that have turned brown too soon. Then we know that winter is close behind. Sigh!

Last fall’s beauty – 2020

This year the weather has been so strange that we may not have as many trees change as in previous years. The weather needs to be warm during the day and cool at night. We have had some warm days and warm nights so the chlorophyll is not affected in the same way. It stills flows upward to the top leaves. It is supposed to be curtailed in the cooler nights and cannot travel up into the upper branches to feed them thus causing the change in the color of the leaves.

Looking through my photos from last year I noticed the colors were more brilliant than this year in 2021.

Fall is my favorite time of year, too. We don’t get a lot of color in this part of NC, although the mountains are brilliant! We just planted an Autumn Blaze maple tree in our backyard in the hopes of having a little color, if the weather will oblige.

Beautiful – fall is my favorite also! Followed closely by spring
