So Much Rain – No Cookouts – Flowers doing well!

We have had so much rain the past two weeks that we haven’t been able to have our usual cookouts and enjoy our deck. Sigh! I wish we could send all the rain to other parts of the country that are arid and in dire need of some precipitation. I will curtail my complaining since I think they are in a worse place without rain. I would do a rain dance for them but I’m afraid we would get more rain ourselves here.

Some of my flowers are doing well while others are dying from being overwatered. Yikes! I will share only the good ones. The one good thing about all the rain is that my husband who usually waters all the plants (also plants them) got a reprieve from watering for a little while.

Pond lush and green

The pond in the back of our yard is lush and green. The bittersweet along the fence is abundant and spreading out profusely. It will have to be cut back in another year or so. The red winged blackbirds along with other birds love the pond and all its vegetation. They nest in there and care for their young.

Today we got a shock as we were sitting at breakfast a good-sized hawk went flying into our window and startled us. He must have been after one of the birds at the feeders nearby and veered the wrong way into the window. Of course it happened so fast I didn’t get a photo. Oh well. I don’t think he got the birds. Thank goodness.

Yesterday I got a surprise from a little chipmunk. I was doing a workout downstairs in our basement on my tapping routine when I heard a scratching sound at the slider. When I turned around I saw a chipmunk tapping on the glass. I asked him what he wanted and he scurried away. I resumed my routine and he did it again with the same results. He hurried away and didn’t come back again.

This has happened also with birds who tap on our windows or peek in to try to get our attention when the bird feeders are empty. They are clever creatures and know who feeds them. They must think we are feeble and forgetful. Haha!

Rose of Sharon
Rose of Sharon

We have 17 Rose for Sharon plants in and around our yard. They are so gorgeous! Many of them used to have purple or lilac blossoms but now more of them are showing only white blossoms. I am waiting to see how many of the ones that did not blossom yet will have purple or white flowers. Ten of them are still not showing any flowers. I will share them as soon as I see some.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post. I hope you will come back again real soon. Thank you also for your kind support of me, my books and blog and also for all the reviews you have posted wherever my books are sold.
