Working on my latest novel!

I am deep into editing my newest novel. I have over 104K words and 354 pages! It’s the longest book I have ever written. With editing I have so far read it four times! It should count as four books for my Goodreads Challenge! Shouldn’t it? Ha!

I hope to send it off to my beta readers soon and begin collating my cookbook in the meantime. I hate to waste time. It’s nice to keep busy and productive.

This book was written in memory of my grandmother who lived to be 100 and five months. She was a formidable character.

When I wrote this story and dedicated it to my grandmother (Avoa), I drew from her own personality traits. My grandmother was a resilient, cantankerous and relentless, in her will to survive, woman of her time as is Lubelia Alycea. This is an historical/romance novel.

I think most writers create stories and base the characters on people they know or have met at one time in their lives. Each book I write I put a little of myself in them also. It is much easier to write about someone or something you know than not. But, at the same time it is a joyous adventure to create something out of nothing and ride with it. In my newest creation I did a little of both.

Though this story is a work of fiction I did form many ideas from some things that my grandmother told me about her life. I had fun embellishing and creating scenarios from these ideas that I thought would be interesting to my readers. Some of the places in the story are real and some are not. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I hope you will enjoy this work of fiction. I think my grandmother would have loved it!

As soon as I have a cover I will share it with you. My husband will be working on it soon.

Your latest novel sounds wonderful. By the time I have edited my books and gone through them about 12 times, I have the book memorized almost!!

  2. 100K words is a lot of work, Janice. My latest novel is 116K so I know exactly how much effort this is. Congratulations on getting this done. It sounds lovely.
