Abbey and Holly Series: Secrets of the Trunk, Book 3 is a young adult paranormal mystery by Janice Spina. Abbey and her cousin Holly were sorting through old books in the library of the house they had recently moved into. They met a dust sprite and found old diaries with references to a trunk and its unknown content. Felicity and Minerva, their ghost friends who occupied the house, were wary of the sprite and her intentions and warned the cousins to be careful. Holly and Abbey attempted to open the trunk but were unsuccessful. They were surprised when it unlocked itself, but they rummaged through the items and found a box with writing on it. While prying it open, they found themselves inside the trunk, which suddenly glowed before shutting them inside.
Would you live in a house haunted by a friendly ghost? Abbey and Holly don’t seem to mind and Felicity is very protective of them. The girls are very well-mannered, but possess curious natures, while their mothers have cool, caring personalities. This is exactly what Janice Spina wanted to convey through her writing; that family, friendship, respect, and good manners are very important. The characters displayed these traits throughout this intriguing mystery with engaging dialogue. I was disappointed that I could not learn everything about the mystery as the ending left me in suspense, but I did enjoy reading The Secrets of the Trunk, Book 3 in the Abbey and Holly Series. John Spina’s illustrations and book cover are nice too.
