In the month of June I read 14 books. I am sharing all my reviews on this Monthly Books Read segment of Jemsbooks.blog. These were entertaining reads by talented authors that I hope you will check out soon on Amazon.

Jjspina5.0 out of 5 starsAn enjoyable story beyond Heaven and Earth!June 6, 2019Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseCan Earth be saved by Heavenly souls? In this story you will see how Heaven intervened by sending two souls to Earth. Will they be successful in arresting an attempt on the President of the USA’s life? This is a must read that will take you to Heaven and back again in this enjoyable story!

This is a creative collaboration where two talented authors have combined their writing skills and successfully created an Amazon Bestseller. Kudos to John W. Howell and Gwen M. Plano!

When Heaven sees an oncoming disaster heading toward USA they called a meeting of the angels to discuss their plan to arrest it. They find two worthy souls who will enter the bodies of two major components in order to save Earth. The souls must first sign a contract to complete their mission on Earth.

There are romantic tones to this story at first but soon action, adventure and mayhem take over. There is something for everyone in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the second book in this engaging series.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Mystery with a Comedic Twist!June 6, 2019Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe Lady Justice series books are delightful reads. I always know that if I am in need of a laugh I am assured of many in these books.

Author Robert Thornhill combines his quirky sense of humor in these mysteries as he delves into some tough subjects. In this story the mystery involves a dangerous drug called, Devil’s Breath, which can take away a person’s will leaving them vulnerable.

The host of entertaining characters helps to make each of these books a thoroughly enjoyable read. I highly recommend this series to all who enjoy a mystery with a dabble of humor.

I received a copy of this book and chose to review it without compensation.

Tetterbaum’s Truth is full of surprises, twists and turns, making for an intriguing beginning to this series. Angel Martin, the main protagonist, owns her own pub and is trying to get her life back to normal after her fiancé walks out, but strange things begin to happen after she is involved in a car accident.

All that she thought she knew about her life is a lie, even her name. She discovers some surprising things in her life and her family connections. The more she learns about her background the more danger she is thrust into. She realizes that she maybe the last known member of an influential and powerful mafia family.

She can’t sit still until she uncovers all the secrets of her family even if her life is in danger at every turn. The author has created an excellent storyline with well defined characters that carry the story along. I like the way the story comes to an and but leads into another story without leaving the reader hanging.

I look forward to the other books in this enjoyable series.

5.0 out of 5 starsFast-Paced Action and Adventure Thriller!June 13, 2019Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseBlood Sons is a rollercoaster of emotions, action, adventure and heartache. There are three stories being told simultaneously – two boys are swapped at birth, one comes from a vineyard with stable parents and the other from a mafia boss with a violent home life. When they are returned to their biological parents, all hell breaks loose. The third story is about a covert operation to put down Cuba’s leaders to overthrow their government.

The stories of the two boys and their family lives after they are swapped was engrossing and filled with angst and heartache. When the author delves into the the seamy side of what the mafia boss, Vinnie Merlino, does to people who cross him and how he tries to control and take over Cuba himself was full of action, adventure and mayhem. This part will be enjoyed by others more who like violence. I preferred reading about the boys and their lives.

David Liscio is a talented writer who does his homework about all aspects of his book. This was an excellent read that I would recommend to all who love action and fast-paced excitement. Kudos to David

My Review on Amazon:

An enjoyable collection of entertaining poems written by a talented poet. Richard Buchanan has an innate ability to take everyday subjects and creative a clever rhyming poem out of them. He has a fun and comedic sense of humor and expert timing that he disperses throughout his poetry making for an enjoyable read.

I copy edited his work and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found myself chuckling over some of his humorous poems and feeling and angst and sadness of others. One of my favorite poems is about his grandson, Max. It touched my heart with its tenderness. I have worked with Richard on previous books and enjoyed working with him again on this book. I highly recommend this fine collection which is interspersed with readers’ comments and quotes from famous and not so famous people.

The Library is a paranormal mystery that kept me intrigued throughout. The library holds secrets that Detective Mark Waters must uncover in order to solve the murders that took place there eighty years ago.

There is also a little romance running through this story along with many surprising twists and turns. The story takes the reader to the past and back again as the secrets are uncovered.

Another interesting mystery by this talented writer. Read also the Depot and others books by this Carmen DeSousa.

Fascinating tales of time travel that will keep you holding on tight. There were some I liked more than others but all were enjoyable. I was especially entertained by Family Tree by Mae Clair, The Backpack by E. J. Lane and Hat Trick by P.C. Zick.

These are thirteen stories that will keep you engaged. There is something for everyone in this anthology. I highly recommend you pick up your copy today!

This compilation will transport you to another time and place. Whether it is magical or transcendental you must decide. Relax and enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 starsA Humorous and Entertaining Cozy Mystery!June 17, 2019Format: Kindle EditionI have read books by Christoph Fischer but this was something in a new genre for him. It was an enjoyable romp with outrageous characters, humorous situations, and murder in the middle of all this. The story moves along at a nice pace keeping the reader wondering who did what.

Bebe Bollinger is a aging songstress who is trying to get her career back on track but during her tryouts for roles and arguments with her useless agent she is thrust into a murder mystery – the body being found right in front of her neighbor’s house. During this time her adult married daughter who still hasn’t grown up and taken responsibility comes home with her lover looking for a place to stay. They are hiding out from their respective spouses and have nowhere else to go.

Just when Bebe thinks she will go insane with the philandering and unsavory goings on in her home between her daughter and her lover, Detective Sergeant Beth Cooper comes calling to Bebe if she knows anything about the body found in the snow. Bebe and Beth, two unlikely characters, who are both trying to get their lives in order and succeed at their chosen fields become friends as they worked together in this cozy mystery.

Will Bebe get her career on an upswing again? Will Beth solve this murder and put herself in a better place with her boss who plans to fire her? Well, you will have to read this delightful book and find out. You will be hooked on the characters and storyline. I look forward to book 2 which is waiting on my kindle. I highly recommend this entertaining read!

I found this book to be fascinating and want to learn more. I plan to read it again and again until I can soak up all its information. It is quite detailed in explanation as a practical guide for beginners. But it is up to you where you take this information and go forward with this theory and heal mind, body and soul.

It lists basic step-by-step instructions to follow for 100+ remedies. It gives the history of Reiki from the first instructor and how and where it began.

Can you really heal yourself and others with these practices? Are you willing to read and find out?

An adorable rhyming story by the talented author, Sarah Mazor. This is the second book in the Uncle Willy Series. The stories are based in the land of LaRhyme where everything is in rhyme all of the time.

This story will have your children chuckling in delight as they read the funny rhyming patterns. Parents will love these books too and want to read them along with their children for some fun bedtime or any time reading.

After the story the author has put in some rhyming time for children to try with some unlikely animal friends. These pages will keep children engaged as they have to choose which word belongs in the rhyme. This is a wonderful practice to help children understand how to rhyme.

I loved this book and all books by this creative author. Check out this lovely book today! I highly recommend!

An interesting compilation of memories of a young girl during wartime in Britain. The author relays her mother, Elsie’s memoirs of what transpired in her day-to-day life growing up during WWll.

We see life through the eyes of Elsie who didn’t know what was going on around her with the war because of her young age. All she knew was she was cold and hungry and loved to have some sweets at Christmas time. She remembers the fun she had with her siblings and curling up in bed together on cold nights to keep warm. She remembers helping her mother make Christmas pudding and receiving a beautiful doll as a Christmas present.

Elsie lived on a farm with cows and chickens and other animals around. She was fortunate to have eggs and milk daily. Others were not as fortunate. She didn’t realize the hardships caused by war but she and her family adjusted and were resilient. Her father was a farmer who delivered milk daily while her mother kept the home clean and children fed and cared for even if they had very little to eat at times.

This story displays the tenacity, strength, courage and resourcefulness of this generation of people, known as the greatest generation of all times. We, today, could not do what these amazing people did to survive. We are too spoiled and cosseted in our ways and life styles. We can’t imagine a time where war came to our doorstep. Thank God for that.

A lovely story for young adults to read in order to learn about life during the toughest of times. The collection of recipes at the end of the book is a nice touch to further display what these truly courageous and resilient people had to use daily to survive.

A quick and enjoyable read in the Lady Justice Series. I never get tired of these books. There is always something new in each book and Lady Justice finds a way to save the day.

In this book the mystery surrounds a box that contains an object that could destroy the world if put into the wrong hands. Walt Williams, private investigator former policeman, gets into the middle of this mystery and finds himself on the run from several nefarious people from foreign governments. Will he be able to keep this mysterious box out of the hands of those who could cause havoc to the world? Who can he trust?

You will find not only interesting mysteries of current subjects but plenty of humor to lighten things up. Robert Thornhill has an innate sense of humor and writing style that will make you feel comfortable even in the tensest of subjects. Each time I read one of these books I feel as if I am coming home again. You can read them as stand alone books because the author explains many instances that come up from previous books. Settle back and enjoy the Lady Justice Series!

5.0 out of 5 starsA Gripping Psychological Thriller that Keeps you Guessing until the End!June 24, 2019Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe Promise is a psychological thriller that begins with a gripping and bloody first chapter. The author keeps the suspense going throughout the book thus enabling the reader to wonder about what in the world is The Promise!

The story revolves around three women who have been friends, Beth, Carol, and Sally, since boarding school. They share a horrendous secret that they promise to keep to themselves, never sharing with another soul. They drift apart over the years, especially Carol who moves away to France where she meets her future husband. Beth and Sally keep close but soon have a falling out when Sally finds a man who Beth doesn’t approve of.

There are many twists and turns that keep the reader engaged and wondering when The Promise will be revealed. There are some surprises that were especially shocking and others that were disturbing.

I think the author did a commendable job of keeping suspense going until the end of the book. I can see how this book became a best seller. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and gripping read that I highly recommend to all who love a mystery that they can’t solve.

I loved this book! Lock the Door is a heart-pounding psychological thriller that gripped me in a tight vise and didn’t let go until its satisfying completion. I felt as if I would forget to breathe as the excitement and intensity grew. I couldn’t put this book down! I nearly forgot to eat!

Meghan Smith is a mother at her wits end when her sick infant son is taken from her home while she and her husband are having a dinner party on their patio. The author displays the angst and heart-breaking emotions of this mother who will do anything to find her child. Her husband is a lawyer who keeps his feelings locked up in front of others and doesn’t approve of Meghan’s public displays of emotion and anxiety. She feels as if she is losing her mind but will not stop searching for their son.

There are some unsavory characters and odd neighbors who Meghan doesn’t know well enough to consider them friends. She has no one to turn to, not even her parents. Her father is not well and she doesn’t want to drag them into all this. It would only give her more anxiety having to worry about her father’s health too.

When a suspect is arrested she is requested to meet with this woman who only wants to talk with her. Meghan believes that this woman is responsible for the kidnapping of her son but cannot prove it. The woman denies any wrongdoing but enjoys the stress that Megan is demonstrating as Meghan begs the woman to tell her where her son is.

The tension increases as the story evolves never letting up until the end. The ending was shocking! This is a must read! Lock the Door would make an unforgettable movie on the big screen. I would be first in line to see it play out there. Grab your copy and hold on for the ride of your life! Keep your doors locked and your children close!
