Many of you have had a special pet or pets in your lifetime that you felt you could never replace. Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier was this sort of pet. She was a lifeline to me in a difficult time in my life when I first got her. She continued to be there for me whenever I needed love and support. Also available on Barnes & Noble.
She was loved by my family and friends and anyone who met her. She captured everyone’s heart by her adorable face and personality. She weighed no more than 12 pounds at her heaviest but she was no lightweight when it came to doing all she could to protect me when she thought I needed it. Her bark was not loud but was persistent until you backed away. She never bit anyone but I wouldn’t want to be on her bad side if you pushed her.
She was kind to my children when they were young even when they pulled and tugged at her curly tail or pointy ears. She would look at me with a look in her eyes that said, “Are you going to do something about them?” When I told her, “It’s okay. Go lie down and be a good girl.” She did just that but not before giving me another sad look in resignation.
Children will love reading about Lucy and learn how important it is to love and care and show respect for their pets. The pets will give back more love and respect two-fold.
BLURB:
This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book. L
She loved my spaghetti with homemade sauce, watched TV shows featuring animals, hated baths, “sang” when music was played, and had two cherished possessions, a knotted rag and a ball.
LIMERICK
There once was a dog named Lucy
Who loved spaghetti and treats so juicy.
She enjoyed watching animals on TV
And was always as friendly as can be
Unless you took away her cherished rag or ball.
You were then no longer a friend at all.
POEM
There once was a dog named Lucy,
Who’s only claim to fame
Was her curled up tail and her cute little name.
She loved spaghetti and doggy treats.
These were her favorite things to eat.
She loved watching TV
And late did she stay up.
She was a special kind of pup.
She made me smile and feel full of glee
But now that she is gone I’ve lost a part of me.

SM5.0 out of 5 starsHeart-warming tale about a dog named LucyJune 23, 2018Format: PaperbackAnyone who owns or had to say goodbye to a beloved pet would appreciate this tribute to a beloved four-legged family member who warmed everyone’s heart. The prolific, award-winning author Janice Spina (who has penned books for kids, young adults, and adults) pays homage to “Lucy, the Talented Toy Terrier,” her beloved dog, in this sweet tale about a dog whose funny and endearing habits are described in rhyme. Ms. Spina brings the reader inside that circle of warmth by sharing her treasured memories of a dog who was part of the family for sixteen years; a dog known to all as Lucy. Just wonderful.
Kudos to John Spina for cleverly mixing media, embedding drawn pictures of Lucy on a realistic background of home photos
Werner Stejskal5.0 out of 5 starsA dog’s domestic lifeApril 7, 2018Format: Kindle EditionI like the idea of using photos as background to the drawn dog. It makes it a faster production and why not! The author goes through many scenarios in a domestic dog’s life and shows how depended pets are on us. A nice effort which I fully recommend!
ark Slomin5.0 out of 5 starsLively and detailed rhymes…April 8, 2018Format: Kindle EditionJanice Spina is an award-winning children’s, and YA book author, with over 15 titles under her belt.
“Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier” is Spina’s latest effort, and based on the beloved pet she once had. Spina takes the reader on a typical day… moments in Lucy’s active (and often funny) life, through lively and detailed rhymes. Accompanying the text are simple illustrations of Lucy within photographed background scenes, care of the author’s husband, illustrator John Spina.
As a previous dog owner, I adored this rhyming tail… er, tale! I’m sure your kids will too
Deanie Humphrys-Dunne5.0 out of 5 starsAnother cute book by Janice SpinaMarch 27, 2018Format: Kindle EditionI thoroughly enjoyed reading Janice Spina’s new story about Lucy. It was great fun to learn about Lucy’s personality and how she liked to spend her day. For example, Lucy loved taking walks with her owners, but she hated bath time.Guess what Lucy’s favorite meal was? She loved spaghetti, with or without meatballs. But it needed homemade sauce. Parents and children will love learning about Lucy and her endearing traits. It’s another remarkable story by Janice Spina. I highly recommend that you add it to your collection of books by this talented author such as Louey the Lazy Elephant and Lamby the Lonely Lamb. You’re sure to enjoy them.

This book and Lucy sound delightful. I love my dog, Dot. I’ve had her for 3 years and can’t imagine life without her. Such a joy they are.
Yes, life is tough without them. Lucy was my joy! 😘🤗😔
❤❤😊😊
My Kero – who has his own seven book series – was that dog for me. I love our Lilie, but Kero… Kero was special.
I know what you mean, Tori! There is always one extra special dog that brings so much joy to our lives. Lucy was my joy! 😘🤗
Having recently lost dear Millie, I know what an important place a much-loved dog has in the family home. Lucy sounds like a sweetheart and a special dog.
Oh, so sorry for your loss, Annabelle! I’m sure Millie brought you much joy as Lucy did for me. One day we will be with them. 😘🤗🐶
I hope so! 🙂
Sorry for the loss of that beloved pet. Glad you have so many memories. By sharing them I know Lucy. She loved my favorite food too. (not the dog treat) lol.
Thank you, Darnell. I love spaghetti too! LOL! 🤣
