Do you read? Do you encourage your children to read? If you say ‘yes’ to both of these questions then congratulations! You are giving your children a wonderful and precious gift.
If your children see you reading avidly all the time then they will in turn pick up a book and read too. There is no greater gift we can give our children in our lifetimes than a book. We open their minds, spark their creativity and make them healthier and wiser to face the world. Children will emulate what you do as a parent. So let’s get reading!
Books are like gold. Did you know that in some areas of the world children do not have books to read. Many of these children do not even know how to read.
If you know someone who doesn’t have any books or does not know how to read please share your knowledge of reading with them. Open up their minds to things that are creative, things that fly, things that go bump into the night, things that are funny, things that are serious, things that are unforgettable, things that make you think, things that help you to learn, things that make you laugh, things that make you sad, things that make you happy, and so on and on.
I try to encourage children to read by providing fun, entertaining books with life lessons. When children read my books they not only have fun and laugh out loud but they also learn valuable lessons that will carry throughout their lives.
When they see Louey the Lazy Elephant learning not to be lazy they will do the same and work harder.
When they see Ricky the Rambuntious Raccoon getting into all kinds of trouble because he didn’t listen to his mother, they will learn to listen to their mothers.
When they see Lamby the Lonely Lamb being cared for and treated equally even if he isn’t the same color as the other lambs, then they will treat others kindly too.
When they see Jerry the Crabby Crayfish realizing that he is happy to be who he is, then they will be happy with themselves too.
When they see Jesse the Precocious Polar Bear realize how important friends are, then they will value and respect their friends too.
When they see Broose the Moose on the Loose being kind to a child who is different than others, then they will treat those who are different from them kindly with understanding.
When they see Sebastian Meets Marvin the Monkey being kind to animals, then they will do the same.
When they see Colby the Courageous Cat taking care of his siblings with affection and love, then they will treat their siblings that way too.
When they see Jeffrey the Jittery Giraffe being kind to others, they will do the same.
When they see Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab working hard to be the best he can be, then they will work hard like Clarence Henry too.
When they see Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier being happy with her owners who love and care for her, then they will love and care for their pets too.
Watch for a fairy tale coming in 2019 and a Dragon series coming in 2019, 2020 and beyond!

Each of these books have life lessons that encourage children to be kind to one and other, respect and listen to their parents, show love and respect to others, family and friends matter and do your best in school.
When I was a child my parents always taught me to be kind to others, respect elders and others, do unto others as I would want done to me, and most of all to love one another. We each have a gift to bring to this world. Each gift is unique. We may not know what our gift is right away but look into your heart and you will find it there. We all matter and are important. Always remember that and please teach your children how important they are to you and how much you love them.

I used to read to my two sons even as babies, and taught them to read before they started school. I still read to them even when they were somewhat older. When the youngest used to wake up early in the mornings, his older brother would read to him before we got up!

As a language teacher I know how important reading is and I wanted to give my children a head start 😊
One of the highlights of summer break for my kids were trips to the bookstore, to load up on new reading material.
Wonderful! I did that with my kids too weekly trips to the library. I read their books and got several of my own too.

I have always read to my children. I have come to realise that the more middle class a society the more books are read by the children. People from lower LSM’s often don’t have the education, money or time to read to their children.
Yes, I agree with you about classes and education making it more feasible for parents to read to their children. 😀
