Here is my Jemsbooks December 2018 Newsletter to fill you in on all the happenings from this year in review.

This newsletter is a way to let you know what’s new to Jemsbooks.
Janice Spina aka J.E. Spina published five new books in 2018 and more on the way.
In January of 2018 she published a children’s book, Clarence Henry the Hermit Crab. Her husband, John, did the illustrations and created the cover for this book.

Clarence is a real hermit crab who inhabited a tank in Janice’s and John’s home. He was quite an interesting character who had one less leg and claw. The book tells about how Clarence Henry adapted to his new environment with fewer appendages until he could grow new ones.
There are actual photos of the real Clarence Henry in action at the back of the book along with facts about him.
This book would be a welcome addition to schools and libraries and for science classrooms.
In March, Janice published another children’s book, Lucy the Talented Toy Terrier, illustrations and cover by John Spina.

Lucy was a pet of Janice’s who was loved for 16 years. The book tells about Lucy’s antics and how clever she was.
Children will love sweet little Lucy as much as Janice does.
John created a different kind of illustrations. He combined illustrations of Lucy and put her into real photos of a home setting.
In April of 2018 Colby the Courageous Cat won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award in Children’s Interest Category.
Also in March of 2018 Janice published Mariah’s Revenge, sequel to Hunting Mariah. The sequel picks up where the first book leaves off. There are twists and turns and many surprises for readers. Read Hunting Mariah first to get into the mind of the killer if you dare! It may keep you up at night!
Hunting Mariah was a Finalist in the Authorsdb First Lines Contest in June 2018.

The model on both covers above and below is Janice’s lovely niece, Laura. She was kind enough to lend her beautiful face to grace the covers.

In July of 2018 Janice published the first book in a middle-grade adventure/mystery series for girls in Grades 5 and up, Abby & Holly Series, Book 1, School Dance.

These two girls were first introduced in Book 5 of Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series, The Case of the Sad Mischievous Ghost. The boys will appear from time to time in other Abby & Holly books to add more fun and adventures.

Watch for more books in this new Series coming in 2019 and beyond.

Book 6 in the Davey & Derek Series will follow in 2019.
On July 25, 2018 Janice and John took part in the New England Authors Expo at Danvers Yacht Club in Danvers, MA. They displayed all 21 of their books for readers.
They enjoyed meeting and networking with other authors and illustrators and speaking with prospective buyers.
In August of 2018 Jeffrey the Jittery Giraffe won a Pinnacle Book Achievement Award.

Jeffrey teaches children how not to be afraid of loud sounds and to believe in oneself that you can do anything you put your mind to. Also, help others who need assistance.
In October, 2018 Janice published Book 2 Abby & Holly Series, Unfortunate Events.

In November of 2018 Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series, Book 4, The Case of the Brown Scraggly Dog was a finalist in the Red City Review Book Awards!

Janice is currently working on Book 6 of this MG/PT/YA series for both girls and boys.
She plans to continue to add more books to this series and her Abby & Holly series too.
She has been thinking about another children’s book. This one will be about a dragon. Keep a look out for more upcoming projects on her website: http://Jemsbooks.com and her blog: http://Jemsbooks.blog
