If you know anything about me at this point in time from reading my blog, you would know that I am an eclectic writer. I can’t just write in one genre or about one subject or for one age group. I love to bounce all over the spectrum and sometimes outside my comfort zone. This can be scary at times!
I recently received a review where the reviewer wanted a couple of my stories to continue. I guess she must have enjoyed them that much. It is a sincere compliment when a reader doesn’t want a story to end. After thinking this over I may take one of the short stories and make it into a full-length novel some day. After you read this book let me know which story you would like to see in a novel. You may pick the same one as this reviewer.
In this short story collection I have written 15 stories in the following genres: romance, grief/loss, mystery, suspense, horror, paranormal, comedy, sci-fi, and fantasy. This book was dedicated to my courageous friend, Anne Gillis Benedetto, who lost her fight to breast cancer in 2017.

Author Janice Spina is a prolific and eclectic writer, whose creativity knows no bounds and whose books entertain readers of all age groups. Having had the pleasure of reading many of Author Spina’s earlier works, I looked forward to reading her newest creation and am happy to report that her first-ever short story compilation is ever so gratifying.
“An Angel Among Us” is fabulous. The characters that populate the short stories are from all walks of life, real and well-developed. Their touching stories resonate, as the protagonists confront and face up to life’s many challenges. Loss, regret, love and hope are ingredients you’ll find in abundance in this stirring and heart-string tugging book. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Short Story Collection By Janice Spina
May 26, 2018
Format: Paperback
First I have to say how much I loved the author’s choice of many short stories in this book. Each was a page turner and the fact of them being short stories I was able to read several each night. My favorite is “An Angel Among Us”… as the story surrounds my dear friend Anne since 4th grade. As I was reading each page I visualized everything and it brought back memories so special… I totally enjoyed this chapter and all the others… I thank the author, Janice Spina, for being such a wonderful writer and bringing our friend Anne’s heartfelt story to share..and know that Anne’s spirit is still among her family and friends.

The 14th story in this eclectic collection is Real Magic.
Blurb: (Real Magic – Suspense/Fantasy)
Eric always loved magic ever since the first time his father pulled a coin from behind his ear. All he ever wanted after that was to be the next Houdini. At Christmas and on his birthday each year he asked for toys that helped him learn more about magic.
When he grew up he finally became a magician in his own right. He wanted his next trick to be unforgettable at his show. It would involve a crystal ball, a volunteer from the audience and his silver cape.
When a young woman volunteers to come up to the stage to be part of his trick something happens that can’t be explained.
I hope you will enjoy this suspenseful fantasy short story. Like a lot of my stories I put in a surprise at the end. This story is no exception. It will make you believe in magic.

I’m off to buy my copy. You are the dear Angel, Janice!–Deborah A. Bowman
Thank you, Deborah! I am reading your book right now, Astral Investigator. Interesting. 🤗 😘
I almost have the second in the series finished. I stopped writing in April. I must continue, I know. I hope I got all the bugs out of “The Boy and the Shopkeeper” before you downloaded it. It is a poignant story that spans many decades in American history as well as centuries in astral time travel. Thank you so much for reading it! Enjoy!
