Tales From The Garden – Behind the scenes – by Sally Cronin

Janice has been a huge support over the last 18 months for my writing and I am thrilled to be invited here to talk about my latest book, Tales from the Garden.

I began the year with a completely different plan in mind with regard to my writing. I had two non-fiction books that were partly written and I spent the first part of the year completing the editing phase. The summer came and I felt a little stale and whilst I love my daily blogging I felt I needed to challenge my creative cells a little more. Tales from the Garden offered me a chance to do that.

Each week I chose one of the statues in my garden and created a fantasy story around it which more often than not included one or more of the other inhabitants loitering around the place. We inherited all but one of the statues as the previous owners were moving to a flat in the centre of Madrid and had no space for them.  This lucky bonus was extended to three hundred bottles of wine in the cellar that were too delicate to move!  Fortunately, they were very drinkable.

I began the stories with the two large stone lions that are in the front on the house and daubed them ‘head guardians’. They featured in a number of stories and they are so regal they ended up on the cover as well. Their role in the garden grew as the tales developed and now I have become even more attached to them. Leaving them behind will be very sad.

When we arrived in 1999 it was November and snow was on the ground the first week and the lads were very overgrown with Ivy. These days we keep them very well clipped and groomed as befitting stars of Tales of the Garden.  Here they are in their scruffy days.

Tales from the Garden is a collection of fairy stories and 80 illustrations, for children of all ages, from five to ninety-five that will change the way you look at your garden forever.

The tales reveal the secrets that are hidden beneath hedges and trees and you will discover what really happens at night as you sleep unaware in your bed. Stone statues and those hidden worlds within the earth are about to share their stories.

The guardians who have kept this sanctuary safe for over fifty years will allow you to peek behind the scenes of this magical place. They will take you on a journey through time and expand your horizons as they transport you to the land of fairies, butterflies and lost souls who have found a home here.

Thank you, Sally, for spending some time with my readers and me. I look forward to reading this lovely book. After I read it I promise to post a review here for all to see. The cover and other photos from your garden are beautiful and so mysterious. I can almost imagine them coming to life.

Congratulations on your new book, Sally. I wish you continued success with this and all your books.  With much love and blessings being sent your way! Please stop by again with news of new books or events so that I may share them with my readers.

Thank you, readers, for stopping by. Please take a look at Sally’s new book and all the other books in her eclectic collection and her informative blog.

I have read a few of this talented author’s books and loved them all.

Here  is my review from another one of Sally’s wonderful books: Just an Odd Job Girl

By Jjspina on August 17, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition

Just an Odd Job Girl is an entertaining and funny book. Imogen is a woman who doesn’t realize her own worth after being married to a man who himself is insecure. When Peter, her husband, leaves her for a younger woman she must take a close look at her life and rebuild. She doesn’t realize her own worth and how resilient she is until she goes out to find another job and must relive all her past odd jobs in an interview.

The author does a lovely job of telling the reader about each odd job Imogen has had in a comical way. I found this book to be a creative and thoroughly enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

Here is my review of Flights of Fancy:

By Jjspina on April 4, 2015

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

Flights of Fancy is an eclectic mix of stories that range from love and revenge to murder and mystery with a couple of talking animals to round things off. This was an enjoyable and interesting read by a creative and talented author. Each story kept me spellbound until the end. The author writes in an easy manner and the dialogue flows smoothly and naturally.

This is the first book I have read by this author and look forward to reading more. I recommend this lovely book.

Readers, please don’t forget to post reviews of books read on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and/or Goodreads. We authors will love you for them!

Blessings to all!

  3. What a lovely post. Tales from the Garden sounds like a fascinating read; as an erstwhile (but always enthusiastic) gardener, I’ve often wondered what lives and dramas happen under bushes and in dark corners just out of sight… It’s a wonderful path for the imagination to follow, and I’m glad you did. Many will doubtlessly find much joy in the book, and I wish you much success with it, Sally.
