My husband and I recently spent three days and two nights in Ogunquit Maine! It is such a beautiful place to vacation with its quaintness and lovely little shops and restaurants. I wrote a poem back in 2009 which I would like to share with you. This is a place we keep going back to again and again. If you ever visit here you will want to go back too. If you love to walk and eat and shop – this is the place for you. If you love seafood – this is the place for you!
MARGINAL WAY
Walking along the Marginal Way
Is a joy whether it’s overcast or a sunny day.
I stop along the trail watching the white water as it comes crashing to shore
Hitting the rocks with a mighty and echoic roar
Etching its way to the higher borders of land.
There are fishermen casting theirs rods from high cliffs out for a fresh catch
And dipping their nets into the water some fish they do snatch.
Nature surrounds me in the brilliant daylight.
Chipmunks scurry to and fro keeping me in their sight
As they keep looking for their next meal
And after finding something that appeals
Going on their merry way.
The path appears smooth and as I walk along
I see trees struggling to stay upright
To keep from falling into the water, to the soil they hold tight.
Nature finds a way to survive
Doing what is needed to stay alive.
Flowers are in bloom everywhere.
Vines are growing out and stretching across the way.
As I walk I take special care
to watch where I am going on this beautiful day.
As the tide is coming in I soon see
Several surfers hugging their boards swimming out to sea.
They are in their wetsuits since the water is still cold.
But I watch as they rise up on their boards so bold.
Riding the waves, arms outstretched, they look so free.
I am now coming to the end of this famous walkway.
Shops are ahead that are ready with souvenirs to sell.
And the air is fragrant with tantalizing smells.
I take a deep cleansing breath and enjoy it all, imprinting the memories inside me.
I will be back again on this path to walk another day
To enjoy once again the beautiful view of Maine’s rugged coast and the frothy sea.
Along the breathtaking mile walk on Marginal Way!
Here are some pictures to enjoy along the walk that I snapped. There was a new home being built all in stone along the Marginal Way that was incredible! Here it is!
Here is a sampling of the places we dined and some of the delicious food! My favorite food is lobster! We had a 1 3/4 lb. lobster each with a salad and/or chowder – unbelievably succulent and unforgettable!
One small restaurant advertised their lobsters and crabs in front of their stand.
John had his yearly dose of fried clams.
The 1 3/4 lb. lobster was delicious without the butter!
Crab roll below!
This night we went for something different at Angelina’s Italian Restaurant – food was so good I forgot to take a photo! I had seafood in a diavolo sauce! Magnifico!
Fortunately we walked 8-10 miles a day and did well over our quota of 10,000 steps but after all this food we certainly needed to walk. I plan to continue with my over 10,000 steps to get some of the weight off! But we had a wonderful time!
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed my photos and could almost smell the salt air and the wonderful food!
Blessings!

It’s a beautiful poem, Janice and lovely pictures too!
Thank you, Deanie! We have a wonderful time!
Yes, nature is always finding a way to survive. Great poem, Janice. We just watched last night a nature show on TV, and here it said it, how nature always survives. when caterpillars kill some tries, then these dead trees make room for the sun shining down at the bottom of the forest to let new one sprout out. New grows. Nature is just wonderful.
Thank you, Gigi. Nature is resilient and always bounces back. Thanks for stopping by. Hugs!
So happy you had fun, Janice. My parents used to go there, but we have never been.
It is well worth the trip. So beautiful! Hugs!
I love your poem and also love this part of Maine. Thank you:)
Thank you, Janet. We love it there too! Thanks for stopping by. Nice to see you.
What a wonderfully descriptive poem! Stephen King wrote about Ogunquit in one of his novels and I’ve often wondered what it’s like in reality. The scenery you’ve captured in your photos is reminiscent of the landscape of Wales’s Gower coast where I live.
Those chips – sorry, fries – look yummy! 🙂
Than you, Annabelle. It is a must trip if you can go. So peaceful and breathtaking as you walk the mile. The French fries aka chips were good! If you asked for chips here you would get a bag of potato chips. Lol!
Wales must be beautiful too! I don’t think I will get there but I will get to Maine again! Been visiting since I was a little girl. Thanks for stopping by. Nice to see you.
Reblogged this on Concierge Librarian.
Thank you for the reblog! Thanks for stopping by too! Nice to meet you.
We’ve not visited Ogunquit yet – are off to Maine next week and will spend a week in Boothbay, one of our favorite places – gorging on lobster and clams. I have places to research for my next book and am looking forward to expanding my experience using Boothbay as a base. A puffin cruise is on the schedule!
Sounds like you will have a wonderful time. Booth bay harbor is lovely and very serene and quiet. Good place for an author to write. Lobsters were fantastic. Didn’t have any steamers though too full. Love steamers too! Have a great time!
Thanks for stopping by. Nice to see you.
So glad you enjoyed yourselves, Janice. Love the poem… the pics even more… I am so jealous right now! 😀
Thank you, Kev! It was a nice little vacation. We both love seafood so we had our fill of lobster! Nice of you to stop by.
Err, didn’t bring a doggy bag of lobster back by any chance? …just thought I’d ask. 😀 😀 😀
