Jemsbooks’ Book Signing Cancelled – Find out Strange Reason Why!

book signing canc jewelers

A funny thing happened when we arrived at our venue to do Jemsbooks’ book signing today, 6/13/15! The store, a jeweler store with a lovely owner, was closed. On the door we looked on in shock at the sign and even more shock when we took a look through the windows at an empty store. The glass shelves were totally empty and all that was in the store besides the empty shelves was a vacuum cleaner and a broom and dust pan.

The sign said: Store Closed Until Further Notice – Please contact our other store for more information.

Evidently, as per the restaurant next door, the jewelry store had been ransacked and totally destroyed by the perpetrators two days before. Hopefully they will be caught and punished. The manager was so distraught when she came to work the next morning that she completely forgot about our book signing. I can’t blame her. It must have been an awful experience for her. We visited their other store in Derry and spoke with her about rescheduling. She was very gracious and apologized and offered to let us set up outside the Derry story since the Londonderry store will be closed permanently. Our new date now will be Saturday, June 27, 2015 10am – 2pm.

All in all it was a strange day to say the least. During this craziness my poor daughter-in-law started working since last night on setting up my new computer which I am using to do this blog. I had so many problems with the old one, a Dell, that I was down and out most of the time. The new one is very high tech, a HP Envy, and a wonderful new toy, thanks to my husband. He says it is his gift to me for our 16th anniversary next Friday. I am thrilled with it but there will be a long learning curve for me. I feel a little overwhelmed about all the new technology. If anyone out there has one and can give me a few pointers I would be grateful. I will be happy to get this blog out in one piece! Lol!

I look forward to the book signing on June 27th. Hope we will have better luck then and like I always says, READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY!

Thank you for stopping by.

Blessings!

  1. Hope your new computer will never let you down. My husband hat problems with Dell as well, and will never buy one again. HP is good.
And with the book signing, well, at least you got another date, they told me as they find our, my books were Indie, they said straight into my face and even into my publishers face, no, they don’t take us. So there. Nice to hear, right?
So, all the best for you.
    Gigi

I hope it is better too! Thanks. I know exactly what you mean. Barnes & Noble would not accept my books for a book signing or even take them on trial. They feel they will be stuck with them. They don’t realize that we work so hard to get out books out there. and just want one chance.

I am going to check on small book stores that take indie books. There are many all over the place. Google indie book stores and you may find some near you.

      Good luck, Gigi! Hugs.

      • My publisher looked into that as well, but somehow they do hang together with the big one and are very hesitant to take the books. Even my publisher asked. And me? When I call them and or write to them, never get an answer back. It’s very hard to get book signing. Before Angus & Robertson closed their stores, I got a lot and they all were so good. well, we try and do our best, right?
Hug and all the best for you

Don’t give up. Try some little Mom & Pop places, restaurants, etc. They may surprise you and allow you to set up in front of their store. I always offer a free book to them as an incentive. It helps.

So sorry about your book signing. How disappointing and terrible for the store owner. Happy about your new computer, though. You’ll be comfortable with it in no time.

    • jjspina says:

It was sad especially for the store. They are fearful of it happening again so they closed it. It was managed by one woman at a time. I am coming along slowly on the computer. Will get there eventually! Thanks for stopping by. xo

  3. Sorry about your book signing Janice! Now you will really be zipping with that new computer! Congratulations! You sure do have a nice husband!

    • jjspina says:

Thank you, Tony. Yes, he is the best and very generous! I am quite fortunate to have him. I think he got sick of hearing me complain about the old one! LOL!

    Indeed a strange day!
But good ones to follow. Let there be sales then o 6/27!!!
Happy anniversary and Enjoy your fabulous gift!

  5. I’m sorry for that inconvenience, Janice. This is one reason I prefer to have my books’ signing during a presentation in a Library, literary coffee or bibliotheque… Pity that some places don’t take indie authors (say Gigi) I guess that being a writer isn’t an easy way to go. Until now I had luck… but in few months I’ll have to fly to the UK for the english translation of my last book “The Annwyn’s Secret published by Austin Macauley, will see how it will turn out. Not everyone has the chance that Mrs. Rowling had 🙂 but I an optimist to the roots. I wish you from heart good luck on the 27th.
    Have a lovely Sunday :-)c

Thank you, Claudine! It is very difficult to find venues to host an indie author. Even the library wasn’t very good. I wish there were indie books in town. I know there are some in neighboring towns that I plan on checking. JK Rowling didn’t have an easy road at first. She was homeless at one point. Thank so so much for your inspiring words. I, too, am an optimist. Best wishes and thank you for stopping by!

  6. What a strange occurrence….could be inspiration for a book:) Janet

  7. Sad and disturbing. No one could have seen that coming.
There is always a learning curve with new technology, but sooner than you think, everything will feel normal and you will wonder how you got along without it.

    • jjspina says:

Yes, it was disturbing, Lindsay. I guess you are right. I just have to be patient and keep using it until it becomes common place to me. Thank you for stopping by!

  8. I can believe your shock. Who could have imagined? Glad you have a rescheduled date.
We’ll battle the computer technology together, Janice. I picked up my new ‘magic box’ Friday and am still fighting with it. I never thought to ask for a demo while still in the store.I didn’t even know how to power it up. Mine’s an HP as well, a Pavilion. Windows 8 has me banging my head on the table and I’ve registered for Windows 10, as well. Why am I punishing myself. Let me know how you make out. I’m a little technically challenged myself. 😉 Good luck and happy anniversary, should I forget later. Congratulations!

    • jjspina says:

Thank you so much, Tess! I am going crazy too. The screen is a touch screen and everything is the opposite of what I had on the Dell! But I am plugging along. I still use my iPad a lot in between like now. Good luck with yours too! Isn’t technology wonderful?! It moves too quickly for me and I am not getting any younger! Lol! Hugs my friend!

What a bummer. Hope your next signing goes off without a hitch.

  10. Good luck with your book signing on 27th June, My heart goes out to the owner of the shop who was ransacked. I, too, hope they catch the person/s responsible, which may, in some small way, relieve the stress of the burglary.

    • jjspina says:

Thank you Kathy. The owner is a lovely lady and is having a difficult time with this. She was on vacation when it happened and her manager found the store ransacked. I think they just may get them from the video films. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings & Hugs!
