This past weekend my husband and I visited beautiful Quebec along with my sister and her husband. Above is the Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac which is the largest hotel there and quite elegant. It was a little out of our price range but we did sneak a peek inside.

The weather was just perfect – 70’s – 80’s, warm, sunny and very colorful with all the foliage changing. Check out these pictures on the way there out of the car window. The mountains against the azure sky in New Hampshire was breathtaking. It was a long ride (6 hours +) but with all the beauty around us it was well worth it.

Upon arrival we stayed within the walled city at a lovely little hotel, Hotel Manoir d’Auteuil. It was like stepping back in time with its quaint shops, restaurants and hotels.

The owners, Daniel Cross & Linda Lafollette, along with the rest of the staff were friendly and accommodating and made us feel right at home. The room was comfy and attractive, and after walking up steep hills and down again and multiple sets of stairs everywhere taking in all the sights, we were happy to get back and rest.

On our first night we found this phone booth which would have made Superman very happy! We don’t have them at home any more.

With a map in hand we circumnavigated the city within the walls and stopped at some little restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day and had delicious meals from omelets and crepes to filet mignon at night. The hotel staff gave us names of places to go and sights to see.

We walked along the boardwalk overlooking the St. Lawrence River where a couple of cruise lines were docked. There is a walk all around the fort, The Citadel, at the highest peak of the city. We had to climb multiple sets of stairs and didn’t even get to the top before we realized that we could not get to the fort from there. My calves were screaming about this time even with all the exercise and walking that I do. We went back down until we found the correct way to get to the fort. Lo and behold more stairs to get there then steep hills! Whew!!

From this scene on the right above you can see how high we had to climb to get to the fort. I snuck into a photo that my husband took of the some of the soldiers at the fort. One soldier was a little surprised when I stepped into the frame as you can see by his face. Ha!

We even caught some of them dressed up as they marched to a area to practice for a local celebration which was the next day.

Here is a picture of the view from above of the Citadel that I took from online. Also, a picture of the Montmorency Falls which we didn’t get to see due to time restraints.

We took time out at the fort and captured a silly picture of each other.

This was almost the right height for me – only had to squat a little! Ha! My husband is the soldier since he could not get down low enough to be the mascot! My sister and her husband are in the picture on the right.

It cost more in American dollars which was a surprise since the dollar is worth more than the Canadian currency ($1.00 – 91 cents in Canadian)

The outside elevator (see above) to the shops below called the Funiculaire. We made a big mistake by taking it down instead of back up again. My aching calves are still talking to me days later! My husband just read that this was out of commission for a while due to a mishap and a broken cable but was fixed in 1998. Glad I didn’t know that at the time! Yikes!

This is a beautiful mural done on the side walls of the shops. It was in fascinating detail and colorful which did not come through in this photo. Sorry about that! It has many of the famous Canadians like Jacque Cartier and Champlain among many others.

Beautiful views at night wherever we went. There were entertainers on the streets at night and during the day. Here is one that did acrobatics and balancing. He was extremely agile and strong and very entertaining. My brother-in-law was enlisted to take part in the show much to his surprise. He’s the one in the light blue shirt on the left.

Outside of the walled city we visited the Parliament building with beautiful manicured grounds and a lovely fountain. This was our last day here and we took some last minute photos of the area before we headed home.

I hope you enjoyed my photos and hearing about beautiful Quebec City. If you ever get a chance this is a wonderful place to go especially in the fall before the weather gets too cold.

We were very fortunate to have gone during Indian summer. It was just perfect making for some unforgettable memories for all of us.
