First Snowstorm in New England!

I have been praying for snow to help our ski resorts who are losing business because of the lack of snow. This first snowstorm should help them out – nearly a foot in Londonderry. We also need the snow to help refill the aquifer which will help many wells that are in New Hamshire. Last year we were in a serious drought. Hopefully this year will be better with more snow.

Also, I love to see the snow as long as I don’t have to be out in it. As a child I loved it to make snow angels, snowballs and go sledding. Now I would much rather stay inside by a warm fire with a good book and a hot cup of tea. Ha!

Here are some more photos I snapped from inside my warm and cozy house.

I took some of these later at night but the snow looks so pristine and beautiful as it clings to the trees. It won’t look as white after a few days as the traffic kicks up all the dirt and covers it. I had to capture it while it is still lovely. It looks like a winter wonderland.

Luckily we don’t have to shovel it since we live in a community that does that. But we do have to shovel off our back deck which is large. I’m hoping if the weather gets warmer it will melt somewhat.

I hope wherever you live that you are having some good weather and staying safe if you are under heavy snow as we are here.

Thank you for stopping by to read this post. Come back again any time. You are always welcome.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Showcasing – Jerry the Crabby Crayfish – a Children’s Book to delight your PS-Grade 3 children!

This is the third children’s book that I am showcasing here for your children. Jerry the Crabby Crayfish is a story about a pet crayfish that we once had in a fish tank in our home. He was quite the character and provided hours of entertainment for us and our grandchildren. He really was brilliant blue and beautiful! The cover was created by my husband from a photo of Jerry in action. I think he knew we were taking his photo and posed showing off his beautiful blue claws.

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!

Jerry is a crabby crayfish who all day long wishes he could be a fish. One day something happens in the fish tank that makes Jerry change his mind. Read about the valuable lesson Jerry learns.

Jerry has been one of my most popular books. Here are some of the reviews from satisfied readers.

When I wrote this book I wanted to keep the memory of Jerry alive for all to see and read. He was a usual crustacean and we can no longer obtain any more like him. We have tried to find another one and did purchase a little red one that didn’t live very long. It was much smaller than Jerry and not as healthy or active. Pet stores are no longer allowed to carry them.

If you have not checked out this sweet book, maybe now is the time to do that and bring home a fun, entertaining and knowledgeable book about this beautiful crustacean. Your children will learn all about crayfish, how they mold, what they eat and how they clean a fish tank. It is fascinating for adults too. Bring home Jerry today and give your children Wings to Fly!

Showcasing – Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon – children’s book for PS-Grade 3!

I will be showcasing one children’s book at a time in posts for 2024. I already shared my first book, Louey the Lazy Elephant. The second book I published in 2013 was Ricky the Rambunctious Raccoon. This is one of my 22 award-winning books for children PS-Grade 3.

MOM’S CHOICE AWARD WINNER – SILVER MEDAL!

Ricky is a rambunctious or very active raccoon who likes to wander around to find something new to eat. One night during his foraging for food Ricky runs into all kinds of trouble. Will Ricky get home safely? Will he learn his lesson to listen to his mother?

I wrote about this cute little guy after having a visit from some raccoons in our area. They can be quite destructive and mischievous. I created Ricky to be a sweet critter who gets into all kinds of trouble. Children will delight in this story and laugh out loud at Ricky’s antics. I did as I wrote it! Parents love it too! It’s a lot of fun to read together with your children and watch their reactions to what Rick does. That is worth the price of any book when you see the joy in your little one’s face. That is why I write to entertain and give children some much-needed enjoyment reading about animals.

Here is what readers are saying about Ricky.

Children enjoy books in rhyme with colorful illustrations and lots of activity. That is what you will find in my children’s books along with some valuable life lessons that will make parents happy too.

Please consider giving books to all the children on your list for all occasions. There is nothing better than to see a child’s eyes light up when you give him/her a book – even more so when you read the book to them. You are giving them so much more than you could ever imagine, e.g., you spark their imagination, heighten their creativity, lift their spirits, increase their vocabulary, open up a whole new world to them, enhance their health and wellbeing and encourage them to love reading. The gift of a book is worth more than gold to our children, grandchildren. Keep reading and gifting books to children. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers. Thank you for your support!

Books Read and Reviewed in December 2023!

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of December of 2023. Here are the 6 books I read and reviewed for December. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.

If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.

When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.

We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some others are so memorable they take our breaths away! While others are sweet, sensitive and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all of these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they help you decide what will be your next read.

The Haunting of Chatham Hollow is an intriguing story full of suspense, ghostly visits, twists and turns, greed, deception and mystery. Two creative, talented writers seamlessly worked their inimitable styles into this intricate storyline to create an enjoyable read.

I have read books by both of these authors and was never disappointed. I was looking forward to reading this story to see how they worked together. They did a remarkable job in this multi-paged tale and should write more stories since their styles worked well in these two storylines, one of the past and the other of the present.

There is plenty of mystery and suspense as the story grows with an undercurrent of paranormal activity to keep things interesting. The characters are well developed and intriguing, all with secrets and mysterious backgrounds that they try to keep hidden to protect themselves.

I highly recommend this story if you are a lover of mystery, suspense and spiritualism.

The Starfish Sisters is a story about the friendship between two women, their heartaches, disagreements, betrayals, secrets, and how they can forgive and move on. This is a testament to the strength, resilience and power of women to overcome even the toughest times.

The author has created a tale of these two women, Phoebe and Suze, who find the bond they have tested due to a horrendous attack on Suze, pulls them apart. Phoebe doesn’t realize how horrific Suze’s life really is with an abusive father who beats her and whines throughout about her minor issues such as the divorce of her parents. The backgrounds of both characters is told through two timelines, one in the past and the other in the present.

This was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone who loves stories about strong women.

The Lost Girls of Devon is an emotional read between four generations of women who come together to care for the oldest who is suffering from dementia. Zoe is the granddaughter who returns home with her teenage daughter, Isabel, to care for her grandmother but finds her estranged mother is already there doing just that.

Zoe was abandoned by her mother when she was seven and left with her grandmother to care for her while her mother traveled the world in a carefree manner without a thought of her young daughter. This has left Zoe traumatized and unable to forgive her mother. Zoe must also try to make amends to her childhood boyfriend who she left behind.

There is plenty of drama involved in these relationships that come to a head while Zoe’s long-time friend disappears and another body is found. The four must come together to find the missing girl and at the same time try to mend the broken bonds.

There is an underlying mystery throughout all of this drama that is solved at the end but will the generations ever really forgive and forget what was done in the past?

An enjoyable read!

Just a Regular Boy is a moving tale of survival and coming to terms with fears this orphaned child must face. He was taken by his father into the wilderness to live at the tender age of five. He has not had the normal education for a child but his father has taught him how to survive in the wilderness since being a survivalist himself.

This is a story that grips the heartstrings of anyone who is a parent as Remy must try to survive but at the same time stay away from others as his father has taught him. When a woman crosses paths with him his life takes a turn and he must learn how to survive in society. His foster mother has her own demons to overcome along with her two adopted children who all learn something from each other as they work to help Remy adjust to a new life.

This was an emotional and touching read that I thoroughly enjoyed as I watched Remy grow and find life can be better if you learn to trust others.

I highly recommend this book by this talented, award-winning author.

The Art of Inheriting Secrets is not just a romance but a mystery with multi-layers, some uncovered while others wait to be. A story that is full of all kinds of Indian food, pungent garlic that you could almost taste and flowers that you could almost smell and feel their rose petally softness.

Barbara O’Neal creates stories that stir the senses and salivate the juices with each descriptive page. There are more than one mystery here to discover, why the main protagonist’s mother left England, why did she not tell her daughter, Olivia, about the estate, what did Olivia’s uncle do that was so heinous, and why was the estate left to ruins, and lastly who is Olivia’s father? There are still others too numerous to list here. All this kept me engrossed and wondering why.

Olivia uncovers some of the truth but the reader is left to wonder about the rest. A truly engrossing read that intrigued to want to see a sequel to find out how Olivia did with the estate and if there was a reason why two bodies were found on the property without any explanation of how they got there and why. We are led to suspect foul play but why?

An enjoyable but ambiguous read.

Goodnight Murder is a mystery that has many facets to uncover. The main protagonist, Professor Jenna Blake, has suffered from a tragic event, a school shooting and then the suicide of her husband. She has the support of her parents and a dog who has saved her on multiple occasions when she had a panic attack.

Jenna is pulled into finding one of her students that has gone missing but when strange things begin to happen that threaten her life she fights back with the help of a private investigator. But can she trust him? Even her long-time friend questions her about things that have been happening around her.

This was an enjoyable mystery full of angst on the part of the main protagonist who struggles throughout the story but through her tenacity she does not give up and strives to get her life together.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. I hope you enjoyed my reviews and will check out these books soon for some enjoyable reading!

It all began in 2013 – Jemsbooks for all ages! My first book – Louey the Lazy Elephant!

I began writing when I was as young as nine years old but didn’t publish my first work until 2013 – ten years ago. It seems like it’s been longer than that to write and publish 45 books. It certainly took a great deal of work and effort to do it but I enjoyed all of it – well, maybe not so much promoting. That is still a lot of work to me but writing is the best part. Promoting takes too much of my time but has to be done. I use Book Marketing Global Network and AllAuthor.com at present.

Promo below is by BMGN

There are a few more stories on the back burner that I am looking forward to writing and sharing with you but I need to complete the two series I have now. Sigh! So much to do but do I have enough left in me to do it all? I will do it! I will not give up until they are all done!

The first book I published in 2013 was my favorite, Louey the Lazy Elephant. Some of my readers have mentioned that they love Louey too! He is too cute to ignore and was the first book illustrated by my husband. It was more in a coloring mode than any other book. I love it! He keeps asking me if he can redo the illustrations but I veto that each time! I think kids see enough to the digital illustrations and need to see something different like Louey. I hope if you haven’t checked him out that you will soon for your children to enjoy.

I wrote this book because I love elephants, especially baby elephants. They are so sweet and innocent and can get into all kinds of trouble. Read about Louey and see what he does in his own story.

WINNER OF SILVER MEDAL – MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS 10/29/20

Louey is an adorable but lazy elephant who likes to sleep late. One day Louey wakes up to find that the whole herd has moved on without him. Louey is very upset but he is determined to find his herd. Does Louey find his way to his family and friends? Does he learn that it doesn’t pay to be lazy? Take Louey home with you and find out.

Here are what other readers are saying about Louey! https://store.momschoiceawards.com/search?term=Janice+spina

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Where’s the snow?

Now that it is beginning a new year – I hope this post finds you in good health and spirits to take on 2024!

I am praying for all good things to come in 2024 since 2023 has been a tough year for a lot of people – me included. I am feeling better now but not over the hump yet, will be soon.

Compliments of IPhone2Lovely.com

WIP is going along well with over 21K words and counting on Book 3 of the Gateskin Chronicles Series. I have been trying to work on my book a little each day when I can, but will concentrate more on it once the Christmas decorations are put away and I have some free time.

BOOK EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNER – FINALIST!
5-STAR REVIEW FROM READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS!

This is Book 1 of a fantasy series that will have six books in all. In this book learn about the three children of King Gateskin and his wife, Queen Solinara. The children have had powers since they were quite young..

Serena was three years old when she learned of her power to move objects with her mind. Her brother, Simon, can fly and their sister, Catalina, can become invisible or blend into her surroundings. They live with their parents in Sovorotskina, the Land of Light.

With these powers comes responsibility. The children must try to use their powers for the common good and responsibly to help others. The three children befriend a Sprite named Spindle who accompanies them on their adventure. Along the way they meet up with their aunt and uncle, their mother’s brother and his wife, Wizard Hotenfaran and Fairy Procelina. The group must travel into the evil land of Parotovina, Land of Darkness, to save King Gateskin, who was kidnapped, and also rescue some of the descendants of their friends and fellow Sovorotskinans who were captured and taken by the Evil Ones. These descendants have been waiting a long time to be free to return to the villages of their ancestors.

The children have many trials and adventures along the way. Will they be able to rescue their father and fellow Sovorotskinans without endangering their own lives? Will the evil King Kaposkaran and his Queen Beregina stop Serena and her siblings from being successful or will they turn Serena and her siblings to their dark ways?

The adventures continue in this addition of Gateskin Chronicles. Many new characters and creatures are introduced. Spells abound with magic all around. Many visitors come to Sovorotskina looking for asylum from the evil King Kaposkaran of Parotovina. Will King Gateskin accept them all or even be able to trust them not to be spies for the evil King?

Serena uses her powers to assist when wolves come their way. Other creatures are also about and threaten the safety of the village.

Kaposkaran finds himself in trouble when his village is attacked by creatures. Will he turn to Gateskin for help? If he does, what will Gateskin do?

There is a spy about in Sovorotskina. Will the spy be discovered and somehow stopped from undermining the magic of King Gateskin and his family?

It was a lovely Christmas even though many were coughing and trying to get over one virus or another. Hope everyone is over them now. I am trying to stay well and away from crowds. I’m hoping for some cold weather to kill all the germs that are around. We also need some snow! What’s going on? New Hampshire needs snow for our ski trails. We have been getting more rain since the weather has been in the 40’s and 50’s. Yikes, not good!

I miss seeing the pristine look of the first good snowstorm when everything sparkles in the light and looks so beautiful! Sigh! When I was a youngster there was always plenty of snow in the winter to play in, to sled on and lay down to make snow angels. I don’t any of those things now at my age but I love to watch it fall and pile up but not drive or walk in.

I was hoping to feature our first snowstorm here by now but here are some photos of past snowfalls.

Watch for my new book coming in a few months and more books later in the year. I have plenty to do on the back burner and look forward to sharing them with you. Keep reading to chase away the blues of the winter and all the troubles in the world. I pray that you stay well and strong and all your wishes come true in 2024.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support and any reviews you may post wherever you purchase my books. Below are my books on walls in my basement room. But I am running out of room! I’m not running out of ideas for books though!

Happy New Year – 2024!

I can’t believe it is now 2024 in some parts of the world or almost here! Where does the time go? Sometimes I wish I could stop time and correct and revise things before they disappear. Don’t you? Is there something that you wish you could redo? I know there are a lot of things I wish I could change but that is something to work on in 2024!

What are you thankful for in 2023? What do you plan to change in 2024? You don’t have to answer these questions. They are more rhetorical in nature.

I will list all the things that I am thankful for below.

  1. My husband who is my staunchest supporter
  2. My family who I feel blessed to love and who love me unconditionally
  3. My friends who I cherish
  4. My readers, fans and fellow authors who support me
  5. My health that it may stay strong
  6. My ability to write – God given and appreciated!
  7. My creativity – may it continue.
  8. My positivity – may it inspire me
  9. My ability to sympathize and empathize with others
  10. I appreciate every day that I have left and I will use each one to the fullest extent for good.

I pray that 2024 will be a better year health-wise for all of us. Some have suffered so much and I pray that they will be free from sickness and war in 2024 and beyond.

In 2024 I plan to keep writing, reading, reviewing, blogging, emailing and promoting my books. I hope you will continue to read them. Here they are below using AllAuthor.com promos. There is something for everyone in your family at Jemsbooks. Begin the new year with books and enrich your life and the lives of your children by encouraging them to read daily. It’s also a great way to escape the troubles of the world by shutting off the TV, video games and have some quiet time with a book! I love it!

Reading is important not only to keep your children’s reading levels up all year long but also it can increase their vocabulary, spark their creativity, enhance their health and wellbeing, and encourage them to become lovers of books. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers who will become successful and confident adults one day.

Pick up a book today and inspire your children to do the same! Happy Reading in the New Year!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support all year through. Please come back anytime. You are always welcome.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Goals for 2024! Happy New Year!

Each year I do a post about my goals for the following year and share what goals I met for the previous year. I more than met my goals for 2023 and hope to do as well for the new year.

For 2023 I planned to meet the following goals and / how I did.

  1. Publish 3 books / I published 5
  2. Read and review 80 books on Goodreads / I read 98 books and counting at this writing
  3. Support several fellow authors / I did support several.
  4. Be kind to someone every day / I did my best by saying or doing something nice for someone every chance I got!

My goals for 2024 are:

  1. Publish 3 books
  2. Read and review 90 books on Goodreads
  3. Support fellow authors
  4. Be kind to someone every day and smile more even through pain for there is someone always worse off than you are.
  5. Be thankful for what blessings I have in life and never forget to appreciate each day that I am given to do more for others.

I try to think positively every day and look for the good in life. I try to keep myself happy and upbeat by doing what I love – spending time with those I love (my husband, my family and friends), writing, reading, reviewing, blogging, exercising, listening to music to calm my soul and eating healthy.

This year 2023 has not been a positive year health-wise but I am working through that every way I can. I pray that my health will continue to improve every day.

Wishing you and yours a healthy and happ year ahead and that you had a wonderful 2023 with plenty of memories to cherish. May you make many special memories in the new year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please review books for hard-working authors out there. We will love you for your efforts and keep writing to entertain you.
