Happy Valentine’s Day – Sweethearts’ Day – A Day for Chocolate for Everyone!

You don’t have to have a sweetheart to buy chocolates, flowers and books, etc. I like to treat myself to some dark chocolate on this day. Who am I kidding? I eat dark chocolate every day! I am addicted to it. I don’t like milk chocolate though. I especially like dark chocolate with nuts.

My husband, John, always buys me flowers on this day but not chocolate. I have plenty of dark chocolate in the refrigerator keeping cold for my snack after dinner. I am getting an urge to have some now just thinking about it.

There are so many things you can buy for the special people in your life – flowers, candy, books! I think books are great and not fattening at all and they last a lifetime to read again and again or share with others. Please check out all my books above for adults or below for MG/PT and children. There is always plenty to read with Jemsbooks.

I think kids love candy but it doesn’t last long and can cause cavities and upset stomaches since they always eat too much. With books they can’t get enough reading time in to make them sick and no cavities, Moms! Maybe you can purchase a little candy and a lot of books to keep them and you happy at the same time.

As long as I can remember, I always loved reading. I was never upset if my parents gave me a book at Christmas or my birthday. Books opened doors to fantasy, mystery, suspense and helped me become a lover of reading my whole life. I think then that I knew I wanted to create stories like these myself one day. Here I am many years later with 45 books and counting. I’m living my dream to become an author for all ages. I pray that I will be able to continue writing for years to come as long as the creativity continues to flow and my muse stays with me.

My goal in writing for MG/PT/YA is to encourage all ages to read daily to enhance their creativity, increase their vocabulary and enable them to live healthier and happier lives. Keep reading and I will keep writing. Thank you! Happy Reading!

Please consider giving books to all the children on your list for all occasions. There is nothing better than to see a child’s eyes light up when you give him/her a book – even more so when you read the book to them. You are giving them so much more than you could ever imagine, e.g., you spark their imagination, heighten their creativity, lift their spirits, increase their vocabulary, open up a whole new world to them, enhance their health and wellbeing and encourage them to love reading. The gift of a book is worth more than gold to our children, grandchildren. Keep reading and gifting books to children. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers. Thank you for your support!

What Do You Do After Football is Over? Read a book!

I shared this post in the past and thought it was time to share again.

I don’t usually write about sports but there is a lull after the Super Bowl. I really enjoy watching football with my husband. He has got me loving it almost as much as he does. What do you do to fill those hours after football season is over?

There are many things you can do to fill those empty hours. Books are one way to lift your spirits and warm your hearts and help you stay positive!

Word Art positive thoughts

Well, for me besides reading non-stop I also watch Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins; both are doing well! But not everyone is a fan of Boston teams. Then you can fill those hours with reading intriguing books.

I spend hours each day reading, writing, blogging, answering emails and on social media promoting.

There is never a day that I don’t have a book on my Kindle to read. I also have all my TBR on my iPad and iPhone. A book to read is always within reach.

If you need a book to read I have 45, soon there will be one more, check out the covers to the right of this post or go directly to links below. You will surely find something to read for everyone.

Below are some of my books for parents, MG/PT/YA to read. Parents love all these books too. It’s fun to read a young adult, middle-grade or preteen book for a change of pace. I enjoyed writing all these stories for your enjoyment.

Purchase YA books here.

JEMSBOOKS NOVELS FOR 18+ are available on Amazon as paperbacks, Audiobooks, and ebooks (Kindle) and Barnes & Noble as paperbacks.

MG/PT/YA books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Two New Additions to our Fish Tank!

I am happy to share that we have two new additions to our 95-gallon fish tank. We ordered a few fish online to be delivered by mail. They arrived a few days ago – a Bi-color Dottyback, Spiny Box Fish Puffer, and Lunar Wrasse.

Unfortunately the Bi-Color Dottyback did not look good when we took him out of the bag which was packed in a box along with warming packs. He was swimming upside down. That is not a good sign. He was small and not able to handle the travel from Florida. The other two fish did well and are still acclimating themselves in their new water world.

Here are some photos of the new fish – three sadly of the Dottyback that didn’t make it as you can see as he tries to swim right side up. The two fish that survived replace two of the same fish that we lost last year – a Puffer and a Wrasse. These two fish are smaller than the ones we had but they will grow soon enough with all the food they will consume once they are acclimated.

Here are some more photos of the tank with the other fish who are still getting used to the new additions.

Take note of the photo above with the Clown fish and Anemone. The anemone has a piece of shrimp that I fed him directly by putting this long-handled tool that holds the food until you place it on the arms of the anemone. I tried to pull the tool away but the anemone was holding fast. It finally let go when it had the shrimp firmly in its grasp. The Clown fish looked on protectively and did not touch the food but allowed his best friend to eat it while he kept watch over all the other fish to ensure they did not take it away.

Trigger wasn’t too happy that I did that. He rushes over each time we do this but the Clown fish pushes him away and protects his anemone. The Maroon Clown fish has hosted this anemone and will take care of it and feed it too. I have seen him do this. He grabs food that John puts in there, carries it over to the anemone and places it in its arms. It is a sweet thing to see.

If you ever watched the movie, Finding Nemo, you may remember that Nemo lived inside the anemone and took care of it by bringing food there.

It’s fascinating to watch them in action doing what comes natural to them in their water environment. We do what we can to provide food to keep them healthy and happy. John threw in two live clams but they have not eaten them yet so the clams have buried themselves in the sand. Trigger may find them when he gets hungry for a tasty snack.

I will let you know how these two fish are doing as they get used to our tank and fighting for food with Trigger who is still a bully. I have to scold him at times to keep him in line.

I recently had a few conversations with Puffer to calm him down when he appeared to be anxious. Of course, I don’t know if he understood me or even heard my voice through the glass but he did meet me eye to eye and then swam around and came back to see me again. He is so cute and loveable. He loves to interact with us.

Not all the fish are as loveable or engaging as Puffer. Trigger meets your eye but then swims away turning his tail on you. He likes to have the last word. Foxface is anxious and will turn brown all over from his beautiful yellow color when he is frightened. The Tang is his friend but they do chase each other around the tank playfully. He doesn’t engage with us at all.

As you may have already guessed, Puffer is my favorite. He loves to get close and personal right up to the glass and stays there as you talk to him. Fish are calming and fun to watch. You should get some fish and relax while you watch them in action.

Than you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Stay tune for more updates on our fish and whatever else pops into my head.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Here is a novel in memory of and dedicated to my grandmother who lived to be 100.5. She passed on Mother’s Day. She always did things with a bang and went out on her favorite day! I miss her every day! She may have been cantankerous, fearless, resilient and formidable but I loved her zest for life and her wonderful full-bodied laugh that made me break out in chuckles too! I hope you will check out this book soon. I think my grandmother (Avoa) would have loved it!

Here is the trailer I created on Animoto.

If your special sweetheart likes fantasy, here is the first book in the fantasy series with a new book coming in 2024, The Legend of the Taken Ones (Gateskin Chronicles Book 1). Even though it is a genre that all ages love I wrote this book with 13 – 17+ in mind but adults are loving it too! It is an epic fantasy with a myriad of fascinating characters, sprites, fairies, wizards and magic at every corner of the land. Jump into this fantasy and lose yourself.

Here is the trailer I created from Animoto.

This series, Branyrd the Angel, is a humorous, inspirational, touching, emotional fantasy about an angel who has missions on Earth. She is a sweet and endearing character that will capture your heart. Guys will make points with these books because it will show that you men are softies which women love.

Your sweetheart will love any or all of these books. Each one will keep her enthralled and reading until late into the evening. Forget about that date you were planning once she begins any of them. You may not get dinner, or your clothes washed. But she will thank you for any or all of these books. You will be happy and so will she. Isn’t that what matters, guys – making your sweetheart happy? A winter visitor!

As I have mentioned in previous posts we have many visitors to our yard and neighborhood. The most frequent visitors are the myriad turkeys who come daily. They appear to be multiplying in front of our eyes. I don’t know if that is a good thing.

Recently we had another visitor who surprised the whole neighborhood. Here are a few photos so you can see for yourself. Can you guess what this is? Look below for the answer.

A coyote escaping with a turkey!

I guess the turkeys will be culled by coyotes. No worries about them procreating after all. These photos were taken by a neighbor early in the morning.

Turkeys are huge birds up close and not too personal that fly up into the trees to roost at night. They disappear into the trees once they are there. They need to stay up and away from these coyotes who will return for another meal. We also have fox and Fisher cats who would also love to feast on these birds.

Sometimes I forget that we are living in a country setting with all the animals that are around us. We have seen two coyotes chasing a deer. Hopefully the deer got away but I doubt it because a second coyote joined the first. They disappeared into the woods so I can’t say what happened. I’d like to think that the deer escaped unscathed.

Thank you for stopping by to read this post. Come back again soon. You never know what I will write about next. I don’t even know myself! Haha!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Books Read and Reviewed in January of 2024!

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of January of 2024. Here are the 6 books I read and reviewed for January. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.

If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them in order for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.

When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.

We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some others are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all of these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they help you decide what will be your next read.

The Atlantis Code is the cross between Indiana Jones and The DaVinci Code. It takes the reader on an adventure fraught with danger and surprising revelations involving the church.

The story begins slowly and ratchets up with danger at every turn as the main character, Prof. Thomas Lourds, travels from one part of the world to another in search of five instruments that are hidden and under the protection of select individuals that he must find from clues he obtains as he moves from one place to another.

Lourds finds his life in danger as he discovers each instrument by someone who is looking for the same things as he. There is a person who is willing to risk her life to protect him as she goes after the person responsible for murdering her sister, Yuliya, a professor of antiquities and friend of Lourds.

The story began slowly involving ancient languages that were a little confusing and almost made me stop reading. But as it went along it became more interesting and gripping as the story unfolded with the significance of what Lourds was trying to accomplish.

A worthwhile read that is the beginning of a four-part series that I look forward to reading.

Fortune is a mystery fraught with secrets involving not just three women who are the main protagonists but others as well. The past is brought forth in this story when one wealthy woman begins a DNA lottery to help solve a crime that happened years in the past. She offers a chance to win millions to all the inhabitants present and past of her city if they just donate a sample of their DNA.

When three women are brought into the mystery and are suspected of knowing something about the crime, they are forced to share their secrets which causes more havoc to the situation, for the one in charge of the lottery has secrets of her own that could destroy her.

An intriguing story that kept me riveted and wondering who committed the crime and why and how all the secrets somehow connect to the past.

An enjoyable read!

All the Pretty Girls was a gripping story full of murder, mystery and secrets. Taylor Jackson, Homicide Lieutenant, is on a case involving a serial killer along with her boyfriend, Dr. John Baldwin, who is a FBI profiler.

Taylor has had a serious injury from a previous case from which she is still recovering. She has her own issues to get over and dealing with this new case has only increased her anxiety.

There are a lot of twists and turns, murder and mayhem that will keep the reader swiftly turning pages as the action ratchets further. I found this to be an engrossing read that I couldn’t put down.

This is only the first story in this series that will grip the reader and make you want to read more of them. I look forward to the next book.

The Color of Heaven is an emotional read that deals with an out of body experience of the main protagonist, Sophie Duncan. Her daughter becomes ill and life is not what it used to be with her marriage. She feels like she is falling apart with nowhere to go for help.

During an auto accident Sophie crashes through the ice of a lake and is under water for forty minutes before she is rescued. Will she survive? Will she be able to return to the person she was before? During the time she is in the hereafter she experiences some strange things that the author delves into keeping the reading wondering if this is real or imagined.

A truly gripping and emotionally draining story that kept me in tears and praying for Sophie as she tries to deal with this outerworldly experience.

An enjoyable read that kept me turning pages and hoping that Sophie would find a way back.

Her Name was Rose is an emotional, gripping and frightening thriller about a troubled and abused woman who tries to step into the life of another that she thinks is perfect. The main character, Emily, is a woman who has been abused by a former boyfriend and is still tortured by the memories of this abuse that she cannot erase.

Things aren’t always as they appear unless you step into the shoes of another and realize their supposedly perfect life is anything but. This is what this story portrays in an emotional way. I felt depressed for Emily and hoped that she would wake up and see the man she thought she wanted was not the man she thought he was. Rose realized that too late.

This is a difficult story to read if you have ever experienced abuse in the past. It was a book that I read holding my breath as unexpected developments were uncovered.

I did enjoy this book even though I felt depressed for Rose and Emily and hoped that maybe there was hope and a light at the end of the tunnel for at least Emily.

Angel Falls is an emotional story of love and family, a tearjerker that you will not forget. The characters are well defined and bring the story full circle evidencing the love and commitment of a family who is grieving and struggling to survive in spite of what life has thrown at them.

This story will make one think about one’s own life and what one would do in the circumstances laid out in this tale. It’s a courageous and unselfish story of a man’s love and commitment to his family above all odds, putting their interests above his own.

This author has created another beautiful story that is an unforgettable read. I highly recommend this book!

Showcasing – Make Believe is Fun: Bedtime Stories for Children Series Book 2 – for Ages 5-8!

Here is Book 2 in the Bedtime Stories for Children Series – Make Believe is Fun that is being showcased here for your children ages 5-8. This series continues with six stories, a colorful illustration for each story which include important life lessons, fun adventures, and information about different animals and things that will keep your children engaged.

MOM’S CHOICE AWARD WINNER – SILVER MEDAL!

This is book 2 of the Bedtime Stories for Children Series. There are six tales with an illustration for each. Children will read about two squirrels, a turkey, a frog, a tree, a leopard and mouse, and a cat. These animal tales will delight children and become their favorite bedtime stories.

Each story carries life lessons that will help children understand about the importance of friendship, helping others in need, family, and it’s okay to be different.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating these stories for children. Some of the stories are dedicated to family or friends and all are purely out of my own imagination. All I need is a title to begin a story and a subject such as an animal to write about. The story flows from there. Since I am a pantser I never know how the story will end until it does. Funny but true.

Watch for more books in this entertaining series that will delight your children and have them requesting these stories again and again at bedtime and any time of the day.
