Now that I have finished publishing my latest book, Search for the Medallion: Gateskin Chronicles Book 3, I have already begun my next WIP, Branyrd the Angel Series Book 4, which will most likely be the last book in this fantasy/spiritual series unless, of course, Branyrd has anything more to add to extend it.
If you haven’t read any of the books yet in this series, please begin with book 1. You will need to get into the character as she matures and changes in each book. It’s a fun series with some humor, sweet and unforgettable angels and feel-good stories involving today’s societal issues. Branyrd takes on the toughest missions given to her by the LORD.
This is not a children’s book. Branyrd is a different kind of angel. She has a difficult time being understood because of her habit of getting into all kinds of trouble and for her unacceptable language. Angels are not supposed to swear.
This angel must earn levels to be accepted by the LORD. She is presently at Angel Fourth Class and must ascend to Angel First Class in order to be given a mission to travel to Earth to help a human in trouble.
Once she reaches Angel First Class, she is given a mission and travels to Earth to help a battered woman and her child. Since she is so new to the ways on Earth, Branyrd is accompanied by her Guardian Angel Benedicto, Angel First Class on High, who guides and advises her.
Branyrd doesn’t know what she will do or how she will complete this mission. She must show her strengths and succeed, or she may be demoted. What she finds on Earth is not what she expected. It certainly is nothing like Heaven. There are dangerous people but also those who she will miss dearly when she must leave.
Branyrd goes on another mission to Earth, this time she has been enlisted to help a homeless vet and his young son. The Angel goes out of her way to put things right for Lucas and his son, Ezra. She finds it difficult through with the influx of empathic messages and feelings that threaten to overload her. Will she be able to help Lucas get his family back together and find his way to recovery after suffering from PTSD?
Branyrd is a funny, sweet, strong, resilient and capable Angel who is not afraid to take on the toughest tasks, who strives to pave the way for those in need, who creates change and makes a difference in the lives of others that enables them to find their way forward to a good life.
When Branyrd visits a homeless community, she meets with the mayor to work out a plan to solve the problems the homeless have there. Will others stop her from helping those in need? Will Benedicto be there in case she needs his intervention? Will Branyrd be able to break free from the connections she has made when it is time for her to leave Earth and return to Heaven?
Branyrd is on another mission which may be the toughest one so far. She has been sent to a troubled island in the South Pacific that is being attacked by the fellow islands in the archipelago. Her mission is to rescue some children from an orphanage during the attacks.
She is escorted, once again, by her Guardian Angel, Benedicto, who is there as counsel and aide as she completes her mission. What Branyrd finds there is devastation and heartbreak as she tackles the mission, this time one of love for the children and the rest of the islanders who have lost family and homes.
There are many obstacles that stand in her way and danger for the children and others as she must rescue not only them, but also another island that is in danger of sinking.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of May of 2024. Here are the 8 books I read and reviewed for May. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.
We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some other books are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive, and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they will help you to decide what will be your next read.
It took a little while to get into the story but once it began to jell, it moved along. I did find it quite long and wasn’t sure how it would end or who the killer or killers were.
There were myriad characters and suspects and at times it got a little confusing about who were the bad guys. Baldacci does know how to keep the reader in suspense and keep ratcheting up the action and danger. There was plenty of both in this story.
This is the beginning of a series of issues that the main protagonist, Travis Devine, will be dealing with that will be putting his life into more danger and keeping the reader on tenterhooks.
No Safe Place is an intense thriller with a serial killer at large. There are so many suspects and twists and turns that my head is still spinning.
The main protagonist, Detective Lottie Parker, is in charge of the investigation into the possible murders of missing women who disappeared after taking a train. When more women go missing Lottie is forced to compare these cases with another one that happened ten years ago.
Lottie fears for her life and the safety of her children when she delves further into the investigation. It doesn’t help that her supervisor is antagonistic toward her and makes her life miserable questioning every she does.
This series is enjoyable while being gripping with heart-pounding intensity and many suspects that kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this series and look forward to the next book.
The Mapmaker’s Daughter is a beautiful story told in two timelines, the present of an antique map seller’s daughter and the past of a mapmaker’s daughter in 1600. The story intertwines with similarities between the two women.
Robyn is the daughter in the present century who had suffered a loss when her husband was lost at sea while Frieda in the past has also suffered from loss of her parents by warring factions. These two women meet through the discovery of a map drawn by Frieda.
When Robyn researches the history of this old map she uncovers not only Frieda’s struggles but also her own. Robyn discovers that she is stronger than she ever imagined.
This was a beautiful and unforgettable story rich in history and detail of these two women. It was an extraordinary read that I highly recommend.
Her Last Goodbye is book 2 of the Morgan Dane series. Atty Dane is a fearless woman who is a mother of three little girls. She takes on the toughest cases and goes above and beyond to help those who need her.
Morgan is enlisted, along with her private investigator, Lance Kruger, to find a mother of two small children who has disappeared while defending the distraught husband who is the prime suspect. She realizes that soon she is embroiled in a dangerous situation involving a serial killer who is now after her.
This was a non-stop thriller that involves a kidnapping, abuse and murder. It was difficult to read about the horrendous abuse of this unfortunate woman.
I enjoy this serious and the way the author takes you along for the journey through her entertaining storytelling.
Searching for Home is a sweet, romantic, and heartwarming story of first love and loss, finding one’s way and accepting change.
The two main protagonists, Meg Brennan and Luke Beckett, were once in love but were separated by outside factors that Meg does not want to accept. When Luke comes back into her life, she realizes how much she has missed since he left. But now her life is upside down with taking care of her sister’s triplets and her B&B after her sister abandoned both.
The author created a lovely story full of romance with likeable characters, especially the triplets who captured my heart from the moment they appeared in the story. It is so refreshing to read a clean romance without any of the language and situations that aways make me want to stop reading.
I highly recommend this beautiful story that was so touching and heartfelt. I look forward to reading more of this talented author’s work.
Sisters is an unforgettable read about siblings, relationships, how they get along and what can tear them apart. One lie changes the lives of this one family forever.
Sibling rivalry is a common occurrence and most things can be forgiven by a family but this one lie to cover up the death of a baby cannot be. These two sisters are close until one fateful day as the younger sister takes their baby brother for a walk, the older sister, trying to impress a boy, pushes the carriage that resulting in it rolling away from both girls causing the death of their brother.
The author has created a heart wrenching story about a family broken by mistakes that can’t be undone. She is known for creating the kind of stories that stay you readers for a long time.
I highly recommend this book!
Bones Don’t Lie is the third book in this series with Attorney Morgan Dane and PI Lance Kruger on another case. This time the case involves some bones that were found in Lance’s father’s car. His father was never found but bones were discovered inside the trunk of the car that were did not belong to his father.
Lance feels compelled to help solve this mystery and at the same time find his father who has been missing for twenty odd years. He wants to uncover the mystery not only for himself but also for his mother who has suffered from depression ever since. Along with the help of other supporting characters the two somehow survive the most dangerous situations.
This story was filled with multiple suspects as Morgan and Lance delve deeper into the mystery. When they get a little too close to the truth they find their lives and those they love in danger. There are twists and turns that keep the reader guessing while at the same that build the suspense.
This was an enjoyable read and series that is not only a mystery but also a romance between the two main protagonists. I look forward to the next book by this talented author of mystery and suspense.
The Secret Sister is a story about what one secret can do to a family. It is a tale of love and betrayal, heartache and acceptance.
One of the main protagonists, Sara Lewis, marries a man who is anything but kind and who has a mother who does not accept their marriage. She only accepts the son that the couple have. After her husband dies she meets a handsome Italian prisoner of war with whom she becomes smitten and marries after the war is over and he is a free man. He unfortunately dies years later leaving her with a daughter.
When this daughter is given a letter and map after her father’s death she vies to uncover the mystery that her father left her. What she finds is the secret he has been keeping for many years back in his homeland of Sicily. This secret threatens to undermine not only her life but the life of the other person involved.
This was an unforgettable and enjoyable story that tore at one’s heartstrings.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again soon for more news about books, reviews and whatever else pops into my already crowded head.

Here is a book trailer I just created on Animoto.com for my latest book in the fantasy series of Gateskin Chronicles. Book cover design by John Spina.
I hope you like it and that it piques your interest in this fantasy/adventure series. Please check it out today and LET THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE for King Gateskin and Noella Province.
King Gateskin must be vigilant to protect his land and people when another creature threatens to cause harm. He fears for his land when visitors come asking about the lost Medallion which he knows is still buried somewhere in his village of Sovorotskina.
Some of these visitors from a far-off island come in peace while another threatens the safety of Noella Province with her Dark Magic. The King must enlist all the help he can muster to protect not only his village but all of Noella Province from Peril.
King Kaposkaran of Parotovina once again is a nuisance rather than a help to the other rulers of the lands in the province. He is only concerned about his own problems. Will King Kaposkaran be a hindrance or a way for the evil to enter Noella Province once again? Will King Gateskin be able to conjure up enough magic to save them all?
I have had so much fun creating all these strange and unusual characters. I especially enjoyed creating the colorful, engaging, and exciting dragons in this series. There will be more about them in the next book. Noella Province is a place where something is always happening, and danger is constantly at their back door along with magic good and evil that are fighting to win.
There will be three more books in this series as long as the characters keep telling me stories and sharing their experiences. They lead the way into each book. I am just along for the wild ride, and it is a wild and crazy adventures for me. I hope it is for you too! Enjoy!

One of our favorite places to visit is Ogunquit Maine – Perkin’s Cove. We recently visited this fabulous place once again. It is such a lovely area with gorgeous scenery, plenty of shops and a beautiful one-mile walk along the water.
Of course I took many photos to share with you here. I hope you enjoy the beauty, perfect weather and the fabulous views. We certainly did! I didn’t take photos of my food but believe me the lobsters were delicious, the steamed clams were tasty at Oarweed Restaurant, and the rum punches packed a punch at Barnacle Billy’s along with the lobster rolls.
If you haven’t visited this lovely cove, you should think about it, for it is unforgettable. We have visited many times over the years and always want to go back again. I love the mile walk and all the incredible views.
We stayed here in Auberge on the Cove – lovely place
This was our view of the cove from our room.
A full moon that night
We stayed overnight and left the next day after having dinner with our good friends who were already there and staying a little longer. It was an enjoyable time. I even picked up my third Perkin’s Cove sweatshirt. They have the best ones there.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again. You are always welcome.

Our weather in New England has been beautiful even though we have had bouts of rain from time to time. Well this rain has done its job by helping the flowers grow. Here are some photos I snapped today of all the flowers around our yard. I hadn’t been out for a couple of days and just noticed that my roses, dianthus, and rhododendrons are in bloom. Wow!
As usual I snapped closeups of some of them. Love these, don’t you? I hope wherever you live that there is beauty all around you to enjoy. May every day be more special than the day before.
I hope my flowers perked up your spirits and put a spring in your step. Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support!

I wrote part of this post for Memorial Day in past posts and thought they said it all for this special day of remembrance.
Copied from FB – perfect for Memorial Day!

Here is a poem from the past. I thought it was appropriate to share it again this year.
Remember
Please remember those who served proudly and bravely for their country so we could be free.
They traveled far and wide.
Served their country with pride.
Walked long distances shoulder to shoulder, side by side.
Obstacles they did encounter and overcome.
To protect those at home.
They gave unselfishly in all their actions.
So many lost their lives.
And have left fatherless children and widowed wives.
Others did go home but suffered from loss of limbs.
Or of mental capacities diminished.
They did all they could doing jobs that could not be finished.
God bless all those who sacrificed so much for all of us so we could be free.
And a very grateful and profound thank you to all who gave their lives so we could live in this beautiful land of endless opportunity.
by Janice Spina 2013
Our new flag now lit up at night (American Flag is supposed to be lit up at night and taken in during rain.) We don’t take it in during rain but now light it up! Looks beautiful! @Jemsbooks
My father served in World War II as a Marine. I remember how proud he was of his service. He received a Purple Heart after he was injured in combat.
My handsome father @Jemsbooks
Here’s my handsome dad in his Marine uniform above and below proudly marching. I couldn’t edit this photo below for clarity, reason why it is so blurry! I had a studio work on it several years ago but this is the best they could do. I loved that smile! He was a wonderful man and father. He was larger than life in my eyes! He was kind, caring and funny. If I don’t stop talking about him I will be crying all day. Thanks for listening.
@ jemsbooks.com
What I did notice was how difficult it was for my father to talk about what he witnessed while he was in the service during WWII. He never really talked about the events until one day when I was a teenager.
I pushed him that day to talk about his experiences. All he could say was, “This war is something you can never forget. I lost many of my buddies. They were picked off and dropped down right next to me. I was lucky to survive with just a bullet wound.” My father passed away after a wonderful life in 2001. I miss him every day!
A special thanks to all you servicemen and woman for keeping us safe!
Thank you for stopping by to read this post. I appreciate your kind support of me and my books and all the reviews that I receive. Please keep them coming! I hope you will keep coming back for more entertaining reading and events about new works, daily news, birds, fish and other things that pop into my already overcrowded head.

The adventures continue for King Gateskin and his incredible family! Visitors arrive from a neighboring kingdom with questions of an intriguing Legend of the Lost Medallion. Do they come in peace? Or are they determined to do whatever it takes to find the medallion and use it for their own purposes which may be good or evil. The King and his family will do what they must to protect their people and their kingdom. These characters are all so different and amazing in their abilities. Very enjoyable read, leaving the reader wondering what is to come next in this series!

I am now working on two books – Book 4 of Gateskin Chronicles and book 4 of Branyrd the AngelSeries. I like to write two books simultaneously from time to time when I feel the creativity flowing in two directions. These two series are completely different and keep my mind sparking with new ideas.
In the meantime, please check out this series above but remember to begin at the beginning – book 1. It’s always best to get a feel for the characters and storyline by doing this. I promise you will not be disappointed once you begin the story. The characters are interesting, intriguing and captivating as well as the strange characters, some good while others are not. There is plenty of evil characters who are threatening the safety of Noelle Province that keep King Gateskin ever vigilant. My husband put together the furniture on the back deck in preparation for outdoor dining. But with all the pollen and tree spores it is not comfortable for allergies.
It looks beautiful though and we do enjoy sitting outside with a cup of coffee or tea, or wine and other mixed drinks to relax and watch the birds.

It’s so peaceful here and helps me to unwind after the latest WIP. I will work on the next book in between relaxing in this beautiful weather we have been blessed with while it lasts.
I love photographing flowers closeup. They are fascinating. I hope you like them too.
