Books for MG/PT/YA in all multi-genres!

Here is a post I sent around back in May of 2023 that I thought was perfect to share again for all those MG/PT/YA out there who are looking for an intriguing read this summer. It seems summer is passing by too quickly and not enjoyable because of all the extreme heat we have been experiencing.

There is always time for an enjoyable book to curl up in a hammock, by the pool, beach or in a cool spot with an iced tea, lemonade, or other drink by your side. A little snack or too would be good too. Haha! I guarantee my books will help you forget how hot it is and how bored you may be. You will want to read all the series below once you get hooked on Davey & Derek and Abby & Holly series.

I have written books for all ages and in multi-genres in the hope that I can encourage all ages to read daily for their good health and wellbeing. I know how important it is that children read daily. I will continue to do all I can to intrigue them with my books.

These two series were so much fun to write. They made me feel like a kid again experiencing all the different things that kids at that age experience – friendship is important, bullying can be harmful, family matters and kindness to others is how we learn to respect one another’s differences.

I had to think like a young boy when I wrote Davey & Derek and like a girl in Abby & Holly. It was more difficult thinking like a boy, of course, but I learned things about boys that way in how they might think differently about a situation than girls do. It was exhilarating to write about young people for a change but not as young as my other children’s books for PS-Grade 3. I gave the MG/PT more grownup situations to handle. I hope your kids will love these series as much as I did writing them.

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – HONORABLE MENTION!

Davey and Derek Donato are twins, but not identical, who love to play detective. They are always ready for adventure living in the sleepy small town of Lindon where nothing happens. The twins overheard about a sixth grader who lost her cell phone. The fifth grader twins kick into detective mode to solve their first case with the help of their friend, Mickey Catonni, aka cat. Things don’t seem to add up when a bully gets into the mix.

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – BRONZE MEDAL!

This is Book 1 of a series of Abby & Holly books. These two girls were first introduced in Book 5 of the Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series.
The girls are first cousins on their mothers’ side. They moved to the quiet town of Lindon, New Hampshire and live in a grand old Victorian which is haunted.
The cousins are excited about attending the 6th grade dance. When their friend, Justine, is bullied, Abby and Holly, along with the help of a ghost and Davey & Derek, work together to formalize a plan to put a stop to the bullying.

All my children’s books, including middle-grade, preteen and even young adults, carry important life lessons. if you want your children to love reading, introduce them to my two series – Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series Books 1-6, Abby & Holly Series Books 1-6. Both boys and girls and adults enjoy these two series too!

Once kids begin these series they will be hooked and want to read more. There is plenty to intrigue them – magic, a witch, warlocks, a black cat, ghosts, time travel, a haunted house, anti-bullying and mysteries and surprises.

Reading is important not only to keep your children’s reading levels up all year long but also it can increase their vocabulary, spark their creativity, enhance their health and wellbeing, and encourage them to become lovers of books. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers who will become successful and confident adults one day.

My goal in writing for MG/PT/YA is to encourage all ages to read daily to enhance their creativity, increase their vocabulary and enable them to live healthier and happier lives. Keep reading and I will keep writing. Thank you! Happy Reading!

MG/PT/YA books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

This Abby & Holly Series has won 8 Book Awards – 6 Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards and 2 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards – Bronze Medal, and an Honorable Mention, and five-star reviews from Readers’ Favorite Book Awards.

Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series is a fun and magical series with spells, wands, a black cat, good witches, time travel, ghost hunting and more. There are also life lessons that include being kind, caring and respectful toward others, listening to parents, being helpful and doing chores, and bullying is never tolerated or accepted. Parents love this series too! When your MG/PT/YA read these books, you will rest easy that they are reading good, clean, and wholesome books. What more could you want in a book for your children? Parents are reading and enjoying them too!

Here is what readers are saying about these series in AllAuthor.com promos.

If you haven’t introduced your kids to these two series, now is the time to get them reading and having fun solving mysteries with the twins and cousins. Parents – you may want to read them too and please leave a review on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Do you think I should write some more books like these? I do have another MG/PT series in my mind that is still brewing there until I complete two other series that I am currently working on. Stay tuned for more. There is always something brewing at Jemsbooks!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support of my blog and books. Please spread word about my books to family and friends. This helps me stay motivated to continue to write entertaining stories for all ages. Thank you!

Back to work on the next book – Branyrd the Angel Series Book 4!

Well, now that vacation fun is over, it is back to the drawing board and my new WIP. I really don’t consider it work though to write only when it’s time to edit, promote and publish my books. Alas, this is all part of the process though, so I must face it and do my best to get through it all.

The best feeling is seeing the book in print and circulating on the mass market of Amazon. I may be just a grain of sand on Amazon’s beach, I feel proud of each accomplishment. Each book I publish is a part of me that is difficult at times to share for I am in each of my books in one way or another whether it is a character, a feeling or something I saw or experienced.

My WIP is book 4 of Branyrd the Angel Series. This series delves into current events in our troubled world today in which I place the angel, Branyrd, to create a miracle or two while helping those in need. Don’t we all need an angel in our lives? I know I do. I have experienced them amongst us in different situations for which I feel blessed.

If you haven’t read any of this series, I hope you will check it out today. There are three books available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. All the covers were created by my husband, John. I don’t feel the need to use AI yet to create my covers, maybe one day.

PROMO BY BMGN

When I began this series I felt compelled to offer hope to humanity in the tough times we are in all over the troubled world. As I write I feel a higher power helping me along to convey this hope to those in need. Branyrd has become a real Angel to me along with her trusty sidekick, Guardian Angel on High, Benedicto. He adds a bit of humor to each intense situation to lighten it a bit.

It has been difficult to put into words what I feel about what is happening around us. So many are suffering injustices by those who prey on the weak, others who are straying toward evil and still others who are lost and need a way home. I pray that Branyrd will provide some assistance to them and give hope to others in need. May God bless us all, for we certainly need His help.

I don’t profess to have all the answers for everyone but I only hope that these stories will lighten your load, lift your spirits and add a bright spark to a tough day. I feel each book does that for me just wriring it.

I have a dear friend who is seriously ill. I pray each day for her. This new book will be dedicated to her and the special friendship we have shared these past several years. Please say a prayer for her too. I will be eternally grateful for all your prayers. Thank you.

Here are what readers are saying about this series on Amazon using AllAuthor.com promos.

This series is supposed to be four books but Branyrd has been bugging me to get moving with this book. I think she has more to share with me on other installments. Who knows? I am just along for the ride with Branyrd, Benedicto and the Lord.

Here are my book trailers made through Animoto.com.

Stay tuned for more about this endearing and magical Angel!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued, kind support. Please come back again anytime.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

A Fabulous Viking Cruise to the British Isles!

Recently I took some time off to rest and recharge before tackling my next two books. My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary on June 19th that is now known as Juneteenth. We sailed on a beautiful ship – Viking Neptune. It was a memorable experience with such a wonderful cruise line. No one can do it better than VIKING!

View of Star Theater where shows were performed

I hope you enjoy all my photos. I took so many that I can’t share them all here. Here are just a few choices.

VIKING NEPTUNE

Our itinerary and excursions were fantastic!

All these excursions were booked ahead of time to ensure that we had a reservation before they booked up.

Our first stop was Bergen Norway. Such a beautiful city. We wore rain gear in case it rained but it was cloudy and there was a little precipitation but nothing to stop us. The scenery from the ship was beautiful too! The weather in all the ports were about the same 50’s-60’s and one 70 degrees.

Views of Bergen Norway

Each day was another adventure with the excursions. We cramped in everything we could see and do and photograph to remember it all. There was plenty of time to relax on board in between. John always found time to take his daily nap. They also had an afternoon tea time. See photos below. I usually have tea in the afternoon at home but not the little sandwiches and pastries.

Here are some of the fabulous staff that were there at our disposal! They couldn’t do enough for us! I love them all! I wanted to take them home with me! Thank you, Viking, for choosing some wonderful people to work on board. It was like an international community with staff who were from all over the world.

Below we are celebrating our anniversary on our balcony drinking champagne that was given by Viking along with a cake. What a lovely thing to do! This made our anniversary extra special!

Dining was incredible with the amount of food choices they had. I will be dieting for sure. See for yourself from the photos of the lovely displays and stations they had. They had a carving station every night with a different meat – roast beef, turkey, chicken, Rock Cornish Hens, duck, suckling pig, flank steak! Incredible!!!

They also served all kinds of seafood – shrimp, crab, calimari, lobster tails, kingpin, Norwegian salmon, and cod. One night they had a station with filet mignon and lobster tails that were delicious! I was so excited to see the lobster that I forgot to take a photo of the station!

They had two different nights with special desserts – one with many cheesecakes and the other eclairs. I ate a couple of eclairs but no cheesecake.

Every day they had all kinds of desserts besides to tantalize us! Their cookies were outstanding – chocolate chip, dark chocolate, oatmeal and no sugar cookies that I tried each day! Yikes! I never eat all this stuff at home. I miss it though now!! Sigh!

Here are views of the different decks on the ship.

Here are some of the photos of different ports. While we were in Dublin, note the photo of girls dressed as Taylor Swift; they were going to Swift’s concert there. Also, Julia Roberts was there to attend the concert too. It was mostly girls attending we noted as we passed by the parade of them.

We visited a pub in Dublin called Lincoln’s Inn. It was lovely to sit there and feel the history all around us. John had a Guinness and I had a red wine. Such a wonderful day here in Dublin. Loved it! People were so friendly and welcoming everywhere we went on our cruise.

When we got to Scotland in Ullapool a bagpiper was playing music. Of course I had to dance around and the guide, Margaret, grabbed my arm and swung me around. She knew me after that and pointed out all the fun places to dance and drink to me. Haha!

More views of the White Cliffs of Dover. They were incredible!

We went to historic Dublin and saw the Book of Kells and the library but could not take a photo. I did do a small video of a few things that were in the interactive library but can’t seem to put them here. They showed an animated Book of Kells with the images coming off of the pages and flying onto the wall nearby. It was quite impressive and extraordinary to witness. We also sat in a small room with circle vision about the Book as the images floated around us. A little dizzying for me but I held up the wall behind me to keep from falling over. It was a memorable excursion!

Of course there were fantastic shows each night with talented performers. One night we danced under the stars to all kinds of upbeat music. I wore John out because I can go on and on and never stop dancing! Poor guy!

More selfies showing what a great time we had – so relaxed!!

I cannot forget the wonderful Captain and General Manager of the cruise. They made the whole cruise outstanding for us. Thank you VIKING!

I hope you enjoyed my numerous photos of this incredible cruise. If you ever want to take a cruise, you must check out Viking for an unforgettable trip. You will not go anywhere else ever again!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please visit again soon.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Books Read and Reviewed in June 2024!

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of June of 2024. Here are the 9 books I read and reviewed for June. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.

If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.

When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.

We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some other books are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive, and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they will help you to decide what will be your next read.

The Four Winds is an epic historical novel that takes the reader back to The Great Depression and a family who suffered through it all. This involves the greatest generation of all, for they were the strongest, most resilient and determined to make a life for themselves despite the dire circumstances of nature, other events, and heartache.

This was a tough book to read because it involved so much heartbreak as the author takes us through the daily life of this family and all their struggles. The main protagonist Elsa is a woman who has been unloved by her family, mistreated by her husband and not accepted by her daughter. All Elsa wants is to love and be loved, something that she has desperately needed all her life. She struggles to be a good wife, mother, and eventual daughter-in-law when she moves in with her in-laws after being ostracized by her parents when she realizes she is pregnant.

Elsa discovers that she is loved and needed by her mother- and father-in-law but not appreciated by her husband for what she is, a hard worker who is determined to make a good life for herself and her family. It was difficult to watch Elsa with her struggles and how she never gave up even after her husband abandoned her and their two children.

There is mention of how the immigrants from one state to another were mistreated and shunned by others, exploited by the cotton and fruit plantations, and forced to grovel and somehow survive reminiscent of some of the problems in our society today.

An unforgettable and epic read that I highly recommend. Be prepared to feel the heart wrenching despair of the characters told expertly through this amazing author’s prose.

Her Buried Bones is an interesting start to this mystery series. It is set in the Australian Outback with intriguing characters. The main protagonist is Jenny Williams who is a new constable to this opal mining town.

Jenny takes on this post to uncover the mystery of the disappearance of her aunt and cousin. This is a cold case that has been forgotten by the authorities which doesn’t stop Jenny from delving into the case file. She is pulled away from finding out anything that is helpful when some bones are discovered in an old mine.

The story takes off from there with plenty of suspects, danger, and corruption. Will she be able to solve this case and then get back to uncovering what happened to her relatives? I guess you will have to find out.

It was an enjoyable read and I look forward to more in this series with this intriguing character.

If She Dies is book 1 of a mystery, thriller trilogy that is quite suspenseful. The main protagonist, Tess Parker, is a woman who has lost a young child in a tragic car accident and her twin brother who is estranged. Her state of mind is anything but stable and her marriage is in jeopardy.

This is a gripping beginning to this trilogy that had me holding my breath, one minute feeling empathy for Tess while another minute angry at her for not trying to get her life together and try harder to work through her marriage to a man who was on her side and sympathetic to her even though he was odd at times.

Nothing is more tragic than the loss of a child as the author reminds us throughout the book. No need to do that, for I was heartsick over the thought of that. The surrounding characters are interesting and add to the suspense.

I avidly look forward to the next book and more about Tess and what happens next.

If She Wakes is the second in this mystery, thriller trilogy. The first book left off with more tragedy for Tess. The story continues now with more mystery involving her brother’s wife, Torrie and her infant son after the death of Tess’s brother from cancer.

Tess feels obligated to care for her nephew after a car crash involving her and Torrie that left her sister-in-law in a coma. Of course, Tess took Levi home with her and her husband so that he would be cared for until Torrie could recuperate.

Things get more complicated when two strangers come to call claiming to be related to Torrie. Tess is unaware that Torrie had any family. Can Tess trust these woman with Levi’s care? Will the death of her daughter continue to haunt her each time she looks at Levi? Will the person responsible for her daughter’s death be out of prison to come for her?

Tess finds herself involved more than she should be with the murderer’s family, a wife and daughter. She cannot stay away from watching them. The story gets tenser when more characters are introduced that could cause Tess more grief.

This story is so intense with the kind of character Tess is – unsettled, depressed, grief-stricken and nonsensical at times in her decision making. I feel badly for her poor husband who has no clue what is going on with her.

I look forward to reading the last book to see how the author concludes this story.

If She Lives is the third and final book in this thriller, mystery series. It was gripping throughout the story as were the other books.

This was an unforgettable series with so many crazy situations that Tess Parker has to maneuver her way through that my head is spinning. If there is something to go wrong for Tess it will. She is constantly tested in mind and spirit. Will she be able to figure a way to get out more of compromising situations and keep those who she cares for safe?

The author did a commendable job of keeping the mystery going around this depressed and unstable character, Tess Parker. Not only is Tess’s marriage in jeopardy but also her life is in constant danger at every turn as each new decision puts her deeper into trouble.

A satisfactory ending to an enjoyable mystery series.

All We Could Still Have is a touching and heartfelt story about loss and coming to terms afterwards. The main characters, Nikki and Kyle Sebastian, have suffered the tragic loss of multiple pregnancies. They must try to move forward and accept the inevitable that they cannot have children.

This story touches on a husband and wife who must give up trying to have a child through IVF after multiple times the process has not been successful. Nikki is finding it more difficult to stop and take a break as Kyle has suggested in order to save not only their sanity but their marriage.

This would be a difficult read for someone who has experienced a heart-wrenching loss as this. Some women can be happy without children while others cannot and have this deep-seated need to be a mother. I can’t imagine not having my own children.

This story touched me deeply as the couple try to forgive each other and get back together somehow. Something happens that will surprise them both.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all who have at times not appreciated their children as much as they should. It will make one feel more blessed than ever. I do.

The Edge, the next installment of 6:20 Man, is a story full of surprises, twists and turns with a memorable and likable character in ex-army Ranger Travis Devine.

I really enjoyed the 6:20 Man and grabbed this next book in the series to see what this intriguing character was going to do next. Travis has an analytical mind and can solve problems that others cannot. He is perfect to solve this mystery after a CIA agent is murdered. He stops at nothing to delve into the most dangerous situations.

It will be interesting to see where Baldacci takes this character in the next book and how much he will test his resilience and survival skills. A thoroughly enjoyable series.

Winter Garden was an emotional story of the relationships between daughters and their mother. It is told in two timelines, one from the present and the other from the mother’s past life. It is a heartbreaking read as the story unfolds with the mother’s recall of her life explaining the reason for her coldness and lack of love for her daughters.

The author created an extraordinary read that expands across time and place as she takes the reader on a journey they will never forget. The story told by the mother is related to a fairy tale which she has been sharing with her daughters at bedtime since they were young. She never tells the whole story until she is forced to after her husband’s sudden death leaving her to live with her daughters.

It is heartbreaking to see how the two sisters struggle with life and decision making after they lose their father who has been their support. He never explains why their mother is so distant and strange toward them. He keeps telling them that it is their mother’s story to tell.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story that swept me away to the past life of their mother, Vera. Like all books created by Kristin Hannah, this is an exceptional story that is full of interesting characters, fascinating storylines, and expertly written prose.

I highly recommend it!

The Price of Atonement is a well-written mystery, a ghostly presence and a man, Leviticus Sinclair along with his trusty sidekick, Wyatt Resnick, who acts as his companion/bodyguard. This is the first book in the Harbor Pointe Series that is an intriguing beginning.

Leviticus is tormented by the loss of his wife and brother and strives to put an end to his torment by helping others by sending ghosts back to the hereafter. They travel to the Harbor Pointe Inn to find a vengeful ghost who has been relentless in bothering the owners of the inn.

This story is a combination of detective, mystery, ghost story with a little added horror to the mix as Leviticus delves into the apparition and why it is haunting these people. When he does meet the ghost, he finds it is not an easy entity to return to the hereafter. It gives him more insight into his own anguish than he had expected.

An enjoyable start to this mystery/detective/ghostly series.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read my latest reads and reviews this month. I hope you will come back again soon for more. Please keep reviewing books to help spread word of the work of authors everywhere! Your efforts are welcomed and appreciated!

Congratulations Celtics!

Being a fan of Boston teams I was thrilled that the Celtics won the 2024 championship! I am late in stating this but I feel as if I am still celebrating. It was an exciting series with plenty of injuries in all the teams but the Green hung in there. I felt I had to hold my breath each time they played but they finally did it since 2008!

Here are some photos that I found online that I wanted to share for all those who love the Celtics and all Boston teams. Sorry if you are not one of them. All teams played their hearts out but only one can win. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS AND ALL TEAMS FOR THEIR EFFORTS!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support.

It’s our 25th Anniversary June 19th!

I can’t believe it – it’s 25 years of marriage for us today! I usually get a dozen roses but we are planning a big trip so that is out. The trip will be our gift to each other! I will share more about this trip soon.

It is also Juneteenth. I guess we are just lucky they picked our special day to celebrate freedom too!

Here is a link to learn more about Juneteenth.

Here are my flowers from previous years. I enjoy looking at them and other dinner celebrations.

We did recently enjoy a lobster, littleneck clams (no steamers available) and corn steam bake. That was an early celebration well enjoyed!!

I got the bigger of the two lobsters as always! I tried to give it to John but I know he would refuse. Lucky me!!

This day is special no matter how we spend it. Stay tuned for more information about our big trip coming up!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Keep coming back for more.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!
