In a Second was an intriguing book to write with serious issues and a fun, entertaining and supportive character who steals the scenes she is in. When I write a new story I always like to add a little humor to ease the tough scenes. This helps me deal when writing the emotional parts of the story.
Athena feels as if she is going out of her mind. She can’t function after losing her fiancé, Justin, in a car accident, or did she? She keeps having dreams or rather nightmares of being trapped in a car with Justin’s lifeless body. But when she wakes up in the hospital no one will tell her what happened to Justin. She begins to think that he is a figment of her imagination until she calls his number and he answers. They make a date but then, he doesn’t show up.
There are many secrets that Athena’s parents are keeping from her. Can she deal with all the secrets that threaten her whole being? Her only salvation is her Gramma Grace who knows the truth and has the power of clairvoyance to help her.
Athena finally meets someone who could possibly give her a chance at love again but can Lucas give her what she needs or is he asking too much of her? When her psychiatrist, Dr. Nick Jasper, shows an interest in her too she feels overwhelmed and confused.
Will Athena be able to choose between Dr. Jasper and Lucas? Will she ever forget Justin?
Here is the book trailer I created:
Here are some reviews from Amazon:
In a Second
I wrote this story after I began having recurrent dreams about a woman in a car accident. It was frightening to think it could be someone I know since I have had some dreams on occasion about people I know or even those who have passed. I decided to write about this story that kept evolving as I began to create the story from my dreams. This was one way to get the dreams to stop.
It will keep you guessing and holding on the edge of your seat as it comes to closure. I hope you will enjoy this clairvoyant mystery and the entertaining characters, especially one in particular. I loved her myself. If you have already read this book, then you will know who I mean. If you have not, grab your copy today and find out who I am referring to and why. She will capture your heart too, I’m sure.

I wrote this book, An Angel Among Us, a short story collection in 2017. This book was dedicated to my high school friend who passed from breast cancer. She was truly an angel among us, a kind, caring person who gave unselfishly of her time and energy to help others. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always brought a smile to anyone’s face who met her.
A collection of short stories that covers several genres including romance, grief/loss, mystery, suspense, sci-fi, fantasy and paranormal. This book is dedicated to a courageous friend who passed this year. The first story is specially created for her and is the inspiration for the title of this book.
I enjoyed writing these eclectic stories dedicating the title and the first story to my friend, Anne Gillis Benedetto. I shared some of my correspondence with Anne during the time I was writing this book. When I found out that she was dying I told her that I would write a story for her and dedicate the title to her. She was thrilled. It was an emotional time but I did send her the story but did not publish the book in time before she passed. I will always remember the special person Anne was and hope she is resting in peace.
I hope if you haven’t read this book that you will check it out soon. It was an emotional journey that I was happy to complete for her. If you like short stories in multi-genres, then this is the book for you. Each story has a surprise ending which will keep you in suspense and wanting more.

How Far is Heaven is not only a mystery but also a romance, and paranormal suspense. It will keep you in suspense and holding on tightly to your children. It was difficult to imagine losing a loved one and even more so to write about it.
Parker and Priscilla Wilfork are happily married with two children. Life seemed perfect and peaceful until Parker goes on a business trip and does not return. Priscilla finds her world turned upside down when she searches for answers to how and why Parker disappeared.
One night Priscilla has a dream that Parker is an angel. Does this mean that Parker is now dead? After two years and no sign of Parker except in her dreams, Priscilla makes the decision to tell her children that their father has gone to Heaven.
Priscilla tries to get their lives back together until one day Deanna disappears too. Now Priscilla must go on a quest to find her daughter before it’s too late. She fears her daughter’s disappearance might be connected in some way to her husband’s. Can Priscilla go on with her life if she loses Deanna too?
With the help of a handsome police Sergeant, Blake Furelli, they work together to try to find Deanna and solve the mystery behind Parker’s disappearance. During this trying time, Blake, who suffered a loss of his own, feels drawn to the ethereal beauty of Priscilla.
Here is a book trailer created for this story:
I hope if you haven’t read this book that you will check it out soon. It shows the strength of a woman who has suffered adversity but continues to persevere. I love writing about strong female characters. Women are the glue that keep all the family together through the worst of times, evidence of the resilience they have.

How Far is Heaven
This is definitely a feel-good story that women will love and some men may too! Keep the tissues ready for you will need them. I did as I wrote it! As a pantser, I didn’t know what the characters were going to do next. I was fearful of every nuance but was surprised as you will be too, I’m sure. It will grip you until the satisfying ending.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
My first novel was a thriller/suspense/mystery/crime/serial killer novel – Hunting Mariah, published in 2014. It was my debut writing for 18+ after writing several books for children.
Once you begin this book you won’t be able to put it down! Forget the laundry, dinner, housework because you won’t be able to do anything until you finish this book!
I remember the shock of my readers when they read this book after many of my children’s books. They could not believe that I had written something like this. It is not a children’s book, that’s for sure.
This story came to me before my daughter went into college. A local college reported that there was a rape on campus. College officials were warning students not to walk alone day or night and be aware of their surroundings. My son was in college at that time and also warned his sister to be careful for he would not be in college to watch over her once she entered.
As with most of my stories, this one came to be in a dream after hearing about this rape. I was forced to write this story in order to get the killer out of my head. He was quite persistent that I share his story.
Of course, I didn’t have to worry about my daughter, for she was safe and no more of these frightening things were reported at local campuses, thank God.
This was a difficult story to write after writing sweet, innocent stories for children. I didn’t know if I could complete this book but I did. It received many rave reviews and requests for a sequel which I wrote in 2018. It took me that long to make up my mind to continue to pick up where I left off with this horrendous character. Once I began the second book, the killer was back in my dreams and pushing me to write once again. It was pretty scary. Needless to say, I was relieved when the second book was completed and I could get him out of my head once and for all. He never returned. Phew!
The covers were created by my husband, John, using my niece, Laura, who graciously offered to provide us with photos of her lovely face. She is as sweet as well as beautiful! She is a former Miss NH.
Here are the two book trailers created for these books.
Here are what readers are saying about this two-part series.
Hunting MariahMariah’s Revenge
I have written 46 books at this writing with more coming this year and beyond but none have affected me so profoundly like this series. I am thinking about possibly starting another series using Mariah but this is on the back burner – way back. It may never come to fruition though. I am fearful that another strange and dangerous character may come forward to claim his story. Yikes!
I may be better off sticking with the kid’s books and MG/PT/YA genre. It is quite exhausting working with the characters that invade my sleep in the form of nightmares.
I hope you will check out this two-book series if you haven’t already read it. I appreciate and welcome reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble or wherever you purchase my books.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again soon. Something is always brewing at Jemsbooks! Watch for more books coming this year and thereafter.

Can you guess which genre I enjoy writing the most? I will give you a few hints. It has magic, detectives, witches, warlocks, time travel, ghosts, twins, cousins, friendships, kindness to others and antibullying. Can you guess now?
Have you given up yet? Okay, if you haven’t already guessed here are the books in this genre. If you haven’t enjoyed any of them yet, please check them out today not only for yourself but for your MG/PT/YA. I assure you that you will love them and feel like a kid again as I did when I wrote them.
DAVEY & DEREK JUNIOR DETECTIVES BOOKS 1-6 – Promo by BMGNABBY & HOLLY SERIES BOOKS 1-6 – Promo by BMGN
These two series were so much fun to create and flowed out of me like a river of lava, full, rich, exciting and entertaining. You have to understand when I write I never know how a story will have a beginning, a middle or an ending. It is all a surprise to me how it develops. I let the characters control the dialogue and narrative. I am just along for the ride. I recently read a few pages of book 1 of DD and was chuckling. I didn’t remember writing this. It was my muse. I enjoyed it though and remember how much fun it was to write! Haha! I also wrote 2-3 books of each series in one year. I have never done that before with other books besides the children’s books.
Do you think I will write more of this genre? If you answered, ‘yes,’ then you are right! I have a series in my mind that my muse keeps popping in to remind me to begin soon. It will be a completely new series and nothing to do with these other two. I also might create more characters like above and begin another series not related to either of DD or AH. I am itching to do these.
Since I have my fantasy series to complete first in 2025 and 2026 I will probably not begin these new series until after that unless my muse drives me to do them sooner. Who knows? Also, my health, God willing, will have to be good to do this. So stay tuned for more from this overworked and underpaid writer.

I told the parents to watch for the book. I wrote it today and will have my husband illustrate it soon. I hope to complete it before I finish the Angel series.
I hope this lovely family will contact me and let me know that they saw this post and will be watching for the book.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of August of 2024. Here are the 9 books I read and reviewed for August. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.
We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some other books are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive, and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they will help you to decide what will be your next read.
Three Widows is part of the series with Detective Lottie Parker, an indestructible force who stops at nothing to solve a crime. She is a mother of three who adores her children, worries about her mother who is losing her mind to dementia and is in love with her partner, Boyd. She does all she can to keep her family together while taking on difficult cases.
This installment of the gripping series held me spellbound as women were murdered and left in the open to be found. Lottie and Boyd and other Guardia were on the case as more women who were in a Widow’s Club kept disappearing. There were clues at every sight but no suspect. When the murderer injures Lottie the detective fears that her own life is in danger. She doesn’t back down and moves along at a frenetic pace to find the person who killed and tortured these poor women.
The action keeps the story moving along with some horrific descriptions of the murders which were difficult to imagine. The author knows how to keep the reader engrossed and somewhat horrified at the violence.
This was an unputdownable novel even with all the descriptive passages. I look forward to more in this series.
What She Left is a story full of suspense with the main protagonist, Martina Monroe, a PI, who is bored with her present job of catching insurance fraudsters and cheating spouses. Her boss gives her a new job after someone asks for her help but this case takes her back to where she doesn’t want to be – her former home.
Martina gets an assist from Detective Hirsch who claims to have her back as they delve into a cold case. Martina has dealt in the past with Hirsch but doesn’t trust this man to do what he says,
There are secrets that need to be uncovered, a love interest budding, unexpected twists that keep the reader glued making this for a gripping beginning to this series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more mind-boggling cases with Martina Monroe.
When You See Me is an edgy thriller with these three eclectic and fascinating characters, Detective D.D. Warren, Flora Dane who was kidnapped by a serial killer and survived, and Kimberly Quincy an FBI Special Agent. Along with crime savant who is also called in to help solve a case of a serial killer when many bodies are found, they work together to find the perpetrators before more women die.
This was a fascinating and edge of the seat mystery thriller that is frightening and engrossing. It is horrific in its descriptive prose as each body is uncovered and how they were treated especially as Flora Dane describes her time as a victim of an insane and sadistic serial killer.
There are many suspects in this town who have secrets that they will not share therefore protecting not only themselves but also the ones responsible in the deaths of innocent young women. This story covers some sensitive subjects of human trafficking and harvesting of organs.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to more stories with these interesting characters in the series.
The Bad Weather Friend is a strange story about nice guy, Benny Catspaw, who has had a lot of bad luck. He has lost his job, his girlfriend, and his reputation which has been tarnished by his former employer.
Things begin to get even stranger when Benny receives a gift from his uncle in the form of a man or is he a genie who has the magic touch? Spike is his name and he can do things that no normal person could even imagine. He promises to always have Benny’s back.
The story is told in two timelines, one of Benny’s past when he was a child going to school and another of his present life with all his problems. There are odd occurrences that are unexplainable and danger at every turn. Can Benny find peace, a job and a new love? Will Spike be able to help him realize his dreams and keep him from harm at the same time?
Koontz has written another creative story with odd characters, situations, along with some of his own input regarding current issues in our world. Though it was a creative and interesting story, it was not my favorite by this talented and eclectic author.
In My Life is the third book in the Hart’s Ridge series with the strong protagonist, Deputy Taylor Gray. She stops at nothing to solve this crime of three deaths in the sleepy town of Hart’s Ridge where not much happens until now. There are many suspects and not all is at it seems.
Taylor has her own issues to resolve with her family who have been dysfunctional because of their upbringing when her mother was imprisoned after the death of her son and Taylor’s only brother. Taylor tries to keep her family together against all odds while trying to do her job and find love herself.
The author continues the saga of the family of Taylor and her sisters as they struggle with their own demons while they try to survive each day. Will they ever forgive their mother and give her a chance to get to know them.
Each book tells a story about the sisters and what they have endured with Taylor at the helm of each story.
I found this to be an enjoyable series and look forward to the next book.
At this writing this book is not available on Amazon yet. But watch for it soon!
Too Close for Comfort is the newest book in the Winston Windflower Series. I have read and enjoyed all of this series. It always feels like going home to all the wonderful characters especially Sargent Windflower who is strong, caring, sensitive, intelligent and brave in his position on the RCMP and his lovely supportive wife, Sheila, and their two adorable children, Stella and Amelia Louise, who steal all the scenes they are in.
The story is full of happenings in Windflower’s day as he tackles all kinds of situations some involving fires, death, robbery and kidnapping. When things get too close to call he has some trusty people who help him solve the toughest problems, his supervisor, Quigley, sidekick Tizzard, new transfer Gupta and his invaluable office assistant Betsy, who always knows what he needs for her to do next.
This is another enjoyable story that I highly recommend. I love these books and look forward to more from this talented and creative author. I look forward to more recipes from this lover of food, Sargent Winston Windflower.
I received an ARC of this book and provided this honest review.
Borrowed Time book 4 in the Hart’s Ridge series is another enjoyable story about the Gray sisters and all the problems in this dysfunctional but resilient family. Each book shares a little more about the sisters and how they are doing to survive through all the problems that they encounter.
In this book the story centers around Anna and her issues with a cheating and controlling husband. Also, we learn more about Cate, the mother of all the sisters who was incarcerated for twenty years and finally exonerated for the death of her son.
There is a death of the oldest sister Taylor’s friend, Sissy. As a deputy Taylor must try to find the guilty person and prove how and why he did it with the help of Detective Shane Weaver who has designs on her.
These books are full of intriguing characters, family situations and plenty of action as Taylor does her job and tries to keep her family together as she always has done.
I look forward to the next book in the series!
The Rule of Threes is a mystery with plenty of suspects, twists and turns and acronyms to confuse you as you try to figure out who the killer is. The writing style is all over the place and sometimes doesn’t quite link together.
I did enjoy the main character, Constant Marlowe, who is a strong and persistent fighter for the justice system. She sometimes forgets the one she loves as she loses herself in her job. This rating is for this character.
Constant is the main constant in this story that provided some jell that kept it together. I don’t know if I will read any other books by this author at this time but maybe later to see if his work is the same or better.
Trust is an unusual story told in three parts with different voices and narratives and characters. At the end of the first part there were notes as if this story was incomplete and just being developed. I found this strange. The story told of a husband and wife who were affluent in society but not social. They kept to themselves as the husband worked the stock market to accrue more wealth as his wife was a lover of music and philanthropy. Their marriage was an odd partnership with each doing what they loved to do without disturbing the other one and passing like ships in the night occasionally.
I moved on to the next part and it began with a chapter one again, making it even weirder. I did not know what to make of this Pulitzer Prize winning book. I have to admit I did not want to continue since I was not sure of what I was reading. It didn’t quite come together yet.
The second part was told by a man who was a prominent, affluent man who was all about making money in the stock market and how upset he was over a book that was written about his wife and him. He wanted to do all he could to stop the printing and selling of this egregious book.
The third part was another voice – the voice of a woman who became this prominent man’s secretary. He hired her to write his memoirs and correct what the other book had misconstrued about his life and that of his wife’s.
I found this book to be tedious at times with all the confusion that set in going from one voice to another. The writing differed greatly from each narrative. I could not give it five stars even if it was a Pulitzer Prize winner.
I hope you enjoyed my review and will check out some of these books by my fellow authors. Please be kind and leave reviews. Authors. Red them to survive in the jungle of books online.

Some of the stories are about places or things that I know. I tell stories about things that are fantasy and others are based on actual things or happenings. I hope your children will have fun reading and ask for them repeatedly each day or night.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Here is a post I wrote after I published my 12th children’s book. As with all Jemsbooks children’s books this one also has life lessons as you will see below.
I have written Limericks for twelve children’s books. Here is the one for The First Star.
LIMERICK
There once were two children named Kimand Chris.
Their father being absent, they did miss.
They wished upon the first star
That he would come back from afar.
Now the family is rich and happy, they certainly are.
I am excited to announce that a new children’s book, The First Star, is now available on Amazon as paperback and e-book and to Barnes & Noble as a paperback.
BLURB:
Once upon a time there were two children who loved their father so much that they missed him terribly each time he had to leave to go away to find buyers for his woodworking. The two children, Chris and Kim, were each given a gift made by their father to keep close to them until he could return. They worried whether he would return and prayed on the first star they saw each night that he would come home safely.
This story portrays the love that a father has for his children and them for him in return. It shows that being kind to others by putting others before you can be rewarding. Also, some things like love and good health are far more important than riches.
This book was written when I was in my twenties and my children were quite young. They are all grown up in their…oops, I almost gave their ages away. Let’s just say that they are adults now with children of their own. I wrote this book for my son and daughter, they are named in the book, to help them go to sleep one night. They asked for a new story and I came up with this one.
As all Jemsbooks this book also has life lessons for your children to learn as they read or are read to by you. Children will learn that it is important to love one another and that love, family, and good health are more important than all the riches in the world.
Here are some reviews on Amazon:
I hope you and your children will enjoy reading this magical tale, The First Star. Check out all the other Jemsbooks to the right of this post by clicking on their covers. There is something for everyone.
Please be kind and leave some love for authors by reviewing their books. We authors will love you back and keep on writing for your reading pleasure! Thank you so much for your support!

All Jemsbooks young children’s books are written in rhyme with life lessons. Each book tells about an animal in a fun and interesting way. Lucy teaches children to have fun, go out to play and care for your pets with kindness and love. Children will learn how to think of someone else besides themselves as they care for their pets. It’s a wonderful learning experience.

LUCY THE TALENTED TOY TERRIER
There once was a dog named Lucy
Who loved spaghetti and treats so juicy.
She enjoyed watching animals on TV
And was always as friendly as can be
Unless you took away her cherished rag or ball.
You were then no longer a friend at all.
POEM
There once was a dog named Lucy,
Who’s only claim to fame
Was her curled up tail and her cute little name.
She loved spaghetti and doggy treats.
These were her favorite things to eat.
She loved watching TV
And late did she stay up.
She was a special kind of pup.
She made me smile and feel full of glee
But now that she is gone I’ve lost a part of me.
Blurb:
This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book.
She loved my spaghetti with homemade sauce, watched TV shows featuring animals, hated baths, “sang” when music was played, and had two cherished possessions, a knotted rag and a ball.
I hope you will enjoy reading about Lucy. She is no longer with us and can never be replaced.
Thank you for stopping by to read about Lucy. I hope you will enjoy reading this book to your children especially if they have a pet of their own.
