I recently posted about our pumpkin outside our front deck. It has been eaten by some hungry critters who like pumpkin seeds. I snapped a photo today and noticed that they finally got inside the pumpkin and ate all the seeds spitting out the shells.
Look closely and you will see some seed shells near the front of the pumpkin that have been left behind.
Untouched pumpkinPumpkin with bitesPumpkin with more bitesPumpkin eaten morePumpkin bitten through
I’m waiting to see if the critters will be back to eat more of the pumpkin. In the past our pumpkins have been eaten right down to the stem.
Here is a photo of a deer caught in action by our neighbor eating one of our pumpkins in the past. I can’t believe we never saw this doe so close to our front door! Amazing!
I will let you know if we catch the culprit in action. A photo will be shared for sure.
Here is a poem I just wrote about our pumpkin:
One Lonely Pumpkin
A lovely pumpkin sits on the ground.
Its skin is smooth and clear.
Soon critters will come from all around
To taste its flesh here and there.
They will take a bite or two.
Leaving this pumpkin no longer round,
They will keep digging inside and chew
Some of the delectable seeds leaving the shells on the ground.
A misshapen pumpkin sadly sits on the ground.
Its skin is eaten and seeds are now gone.
While the critters who did this are no longer around.
I’m happy to share our bounty with the animals around. They are hungry too! We feed birds, squirrels (not on purpose though), chipmunks, a groundhog, rabbits, a feral cat, and whatever else pops into our yard to feast on seeds, this pumpkin and bread and other things we throw out.
Have you had a pumpkin eaten in your yard? Please share your stories.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Feel free to come back again any time.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
My WIP is in the editing stages. I find this the most difficult part of writing since I keep wanting to change something over and over again. Yikes!
The first read through was just to make sure everything lined up and moved along smoothly. During the next several read throughs I work over some of the text, change up the sentences a little and then keep polishing it until I am happy with it. I will continue to read it and polish it until it shines!
The next step is to send it along to my lovely beta readers for their eagle eyes and then back to me to complete the last edits. I hope to finish it up this week.
If you haven’t read any of Branyrd the Angel Series, now is the time to grab a copy of book 1 and get into this character who is a sweet, one of a kind angel. Branyrd just may make a believe of angels out of you unbelievers. Watch for Branyrd coming your way!
This is not a children’s book. Branyrd is a different kind of angel. She has a difficult time being understood because of her habit of getting into all kinds of trouble and for her unacceptable language. Angels are not supposed to swear.
This angel must earn levels to be accepted by the LORD. She is presently at Angel Fourth Class and must ascend to Angel First Class in order to be given a mission to travel to Earth to help a human in trouble.
Once she reaches Angel First Class, she is given a mission and travels to Earth to help a battered woman and her child. Since she is so new to the ways on Earth, Branyrd is accompanied by her Guardian Angel Benedicto, Angel First Class on High, who guides and advises her.
Branyrd doesn’t know what she will do or how she will complete this mission. She must show her strengths and succeed, or she may be demoted. What she finds on Earth is not what she expected. It certainly is nothing like Heaven. There are dangerous people but also those who she will miss dearly when she must leave.
Branyrd goes on another mission to Earth, this time she has been enlisted to help a homeless vet and his young son. The Angel goes out of her way to put things right for Lucas and his son, Ezra. She finds it difficult through with the influx of empathic messages and feelings that threaten to overload her. Will she be able to help Lucas get his family back together and find his way to recovery after suffering from PTSD?
Branyrd is a funny, sweet, strong, resilient and capable Angel who is not afraid to take on the toughest tasks, who strives to pave the way for those in need, who creates change and makes a difference in the lives of others that enables them to find their way forward to a good life.
When Branyrd visits a homeless community, she meets with the mayor to work out a plan to solve the problems the homeless have there. Will others stop her from helping those in need? Will Benedicto be there in case she needs his intervention? Will Branyrd be able to break free from the connections she has made when it is time for her to leave Earth and return to Heaven?
Branyrd is on another mission which may be the toughest one so far. She has been sent to a troubled island in the South Pacific that is being attacked by the fellow islands in the archipelago. Her mission is to rescue some children from an orphanage during the attacks.
She is escorted, once again, by her Guardian Angel, Benedicto, who is there as counsel and aide as she completes her mission. What Branyrd finds there is devastation and heartbreak as she tackles the mission, this time one of love for the children and the rest of the islanders who have lost family and homes.
There are many obstacles that stand in her way and danger for the children and others as she must rescue not only them, but also another island that is in danger of sinking.

READING GIVES YOU WINGS TO FLY! SOAR WITH JEMSBOOKS ALL YEAR THROUGH! HAPPY READING!
Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of September of 2024. Here are the 7 books I read and reviewed for September. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.
I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.
If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.
When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.
We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some other books are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive, and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they will help you to decide what will be your next read.
Demon Copperhead is a story of the resilience and determination of a young boy to find himself and someone who will love him. The main protagonist, Damon or better known as Demon had a difficult life growing up with a single dysfunctional mother in a trailer and then farmed off to DSS and multiple homes once he was an orphan after his mother died.
This was a tough book to read with all the heartbreak that this young boy had to suffer. It delves in each nuisance of Demon’s day-to-day life told through his voice. It was reminiscent of David Copperfield which was the author’s inspiration.
It is quite disheartening to hear in detail all that Demon had to suffer trying to stay alive and not become influenced by those evil forces around him who tried to turn him. He moves from family to family trying to fit in, find his place in the world and at the same time needing to be loved and wanted for the first time in his life.
This was a long story that I thought would have no ending but it finally came to a satisfactory conclusion.
The Color of Destiny is a heart wrenching and heartwarming story at the same time of a woman who has suffered from multiple losses of loved ones in her life. This is a story that will touch you deeply and have you cheering for a positive thing to happen to her.
The author has created a memorable and emotional story full of love, loss, heartache and hope for a better future. Kate Worthington aka Elizabeth, the main protagonist, must try to move on with her life and her high school love after losing loved ones in a shocking accident.
Her life is one tragedy after another but when she meets a man she feels her heart opening to a new life. Is it destiny? Is there hope for a future? Can Kate ever forget about her losses and begin anew?
This was an unforgettable and emotional roller coaster of a story that I can see being made into a movie. I have read two of this series and look forward to more from this creative author who writes from her heart and brings her characters to life.
Dark State, Jason Trapp Thrillers Book 1 is a tense, non-stop action thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was full of violence, threats against political figures and dangerous factions who stop at nothing to kill anyone who dares to get in their way.
Some of these scenes get a little too close to what is happening in our troubled world today. We could use a Jason Trapp to make things right!
I love the main protagonist, Trapp, who is a true patriot having served time saving others in his line of duty with the government. He lost his best friend unfortunately on one of these missions and has never gotten over this deep loss.
This is a blockbuster of a beginning for this action thriller that should be a major motion picture one day at the same level as Reacher. I loved this character for his determination to do the right thing in every situation while always avoiding injuring anyone unless necessary. He is fierce in his fight to protect his country and its leadership as he takes on each new mission either on his own or with the help of others. He somehow manages to stay undercover and does not want or need accolades or medals for reward. He does whatever needs to be done for his fellow man and country. What a memorable hero!
I look forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend! Kudos to the talented author, Jack Slater!!
Instant Karma book 5 of the Hart’s Ridge series is another story created around the Hart family and their loves, losses, heartaches and other family issues. They have a lot of problems but as a family they work out together and are always supportive of one other in the toughest of times.
Taylor is the head of the family being the oldest daughter. She feels a need to take care of the rest of her siblings since they were young and continues even as they are now grown whether they have families of their own or not. She is a police officer who always protects those who need help and does all she can to right any wrongs she sees.
In this book Taylor watches over an elderly woman who has been harassed by a renter in her home. She also is having recurrent episodes of a past incident where she was attacked. She refuses to share her problem with anyone including the man she loves.
This is an emotional and heartfelt read as we learn more about each of the sisters and how they interact with one another and in their love relationships.
The Lost Letters of Aisling is full of mystery, romance, heartbreak and secrets. It is told in two timelines, one present and the other in Ireland during WWII when food was scarce and danger was always around the corner.
Part of the story is about a young woman, Rainey, who is close to her grandmother but doesn’t really know anything about her past. When her grandmother is failing she requests that Rainey take her back home to Dublin to find some letters she left there.
Once they arrive in Ireland, Rainey meets a handsome young man in the place they are staying who tugs at her heartstrings. He offers to help Rainey find her grandmother’s lost letters. As they continued the search they find themselves falling for one another.
The story continues with an unexpected outcome about the letters and those involved with Rainey’s grandmother when she was young. Rainey has time to contemplate whether her job back home is making her happy or causing her to be discontent.
This was enjoyable up until the ending which stopped abruptly leaving me with more questions about what happened next.
One Last Kill, book 10 in the Tracy Crosswhite series that is full of mystery, suspense and plenty of suspects. The author has created an enjoyable series.
I loved this character, Tracey Crosswhite, who takes on the toughest cases and doesn’t give up until she gets the perpetrators. There is a serial killer on the loose who begins a killing spree after taking from time off. Will Tracey catch him before more victims surface?
I enjoy all the books in this series and look forward to more stories with this tough, no-nonsense character.
Nobody Told Me is part of the Hart’s Ridge series which follows the lives, loves and family issues of the Gray sisters. The eldest sister, Taylor is a deputy who juggles her job along with trying to keep her family together while managing somehow to have a life of her own.
One sister, Lucy, has now returned home along with her son after some issues with two men in her life, one being the father of her child. She escapes to stay with Taylor until she can get her life back together for herself and her son. Trouble seems to be following Lucy no matter what she does and Taylor must come to her rescue once again.
There are so many problems in this book that keep the Gray sisters gathering together for support including their mother who is now working to get her life back after serving twenty years in prison for the death of her son in a fire. She was finally found innocent after many years. They all work together in a new business caring for dogs which keeps the family busy. The dogs prove to be man’s or woman’s best friend.
This is an enjoyable series with something always happening in the life of the Gray sisters.

I snapped some photos of the beautiful fall colors that I noticed along our way to Maine recently. Also, our pumpkin is being attacked by rabbits, deer, squirrels, chipmunks or groundhogs in our area. I haven’t seen who the culprits are though. This happens every year. I really don’t mind providing some nourishing food for these animals.
I hope my photos put you into an autumn mood. Enjoy your day and come back again soon. I love sharing my photos with you.

Perkin’s Cove in Ogunquit Maine is one of our favorite places to visit. We have visited almost every year for many years. We have stayed at different places there for two to three days at a time, but our favorite place to stay is Auberge on the Cove. It is beautiful, well cared for and right on the cove with a gorgeous view of the water, boats in the cove and also the ocean.
We celebrated my husband John’s birthday. He is still as handsome and wonderful as ever! I am a lucky woman and feel blessed to have him.
Here are some photos of the place inside the main office with the adorable clerk. It has a homey feel to it with coffee and tea from 7-11 am each morning. There is also a coffee pot in each room.
Inside our room and the outside
Of course I have many more photos to share with you of our lovely trip. There are a few restaurants in the cove with plenty of shopping to do. I purchase a sweatshirt every year for the past few years. We also love the shop Revelations in the town which looks like a little chapel with tons of wonderful things to buy. We purchased some window butterflies that stick on with suction cups.
This is Barnacle Billy’s and the first smiling face is Aaron. Wonderful food and ice cream too!! My favorite were clams, crab roll or lobster rolls, rum punch, and Death by Chocolate for ice cream!
Four pound lobster!
Two mornings we went to breakfast at Egg and I where we met lovely waiters and waitresses and had some delicious food! The pancakes were fantastic with the strawberry butter. I don’t use syrup and loved the butter, fruit and whipped cream! Yum! It wasn’t too far from the Cove to travel to either.
Selma has a great sense of humor!Lovely cashier posed for a pic.Lovely Mallory was our waitress – best ever!
The first three photos are of Barack’s Billy’s for lunch with their out of this world rum punches! I had one each day while we were there. The rest are from John’s birthday dinner – lobster and steamers at Oarweed! Fabulous time!
To walk off all this food we did two trips on the Marginal Way (a mile each way) – one each day. The first day was warm with 68-70 temps. The following day was much cooler in the low 60’s and the ocean was incredible to photograph as you can see in the pics that follow. The calm ones are of the low tide and the others from the second day with high tide and rough seas. We were supposed to take a boat right to Nubble Lighthouse but it was not available due to the high seas.
On our walk I met Ron who is a local artist working on his latest painting. The weather was perfect this day for this with clear blue skies and calm seas.
As you can see, the seas were high and the wind had picked up with cooler temps but it was still beautiful. I snapped some great photos of the water hitting the rocks and spraying. I loved it! There were plenty of all kinds of dogs everywhere on the walk. I snapped these two cuties with their fishy coats.
Some night views of the Cove.
Touches of Halloween and plenty of flowers added more beauty to the area.
Some selfies along our walk on Marginal Way!
Here are some flowers along our walk and taking a rest every so often with the birthday boy being featured here! Haha!
There was an enormous chestnut tree on the property of Auberge on the Cove. We picked up some of the chestnuts and brought them home to enjoy later.
Chestnut Tree
Here is one of the butterflies I purchased at Relevations store.
All in all it was a wonderful trip and birthday celebration for John. He deserved a special day. I look forward to doing this again next year!
If you haven’t visited Perkin’s Cove you must take a trip here. It has breathtaking views on Marginal Way, delicious food at the restaurants and rum punches at Barnacle Billy’s with plenty of shopping at the shops in the cove and in town close by.

Well, I knew it was coming but now that they are gone, I miss them. I am speaking of the adorable, tiny, amazing hummingbirds. Our hummingbird feeders are now down and more feeders are up for the fall and winter birds who are returning to one of their favorite places to dine – our deck.
One of many photos I have taken of them in the past.
I watched in delight at breakfast as the birds were feeding and then drinking and bathing at the birdbath. It is so much fun to watch them. They appear to be having a wonderful time. Here are some photos for you to enjoy.
I also snapped a photo of our hibiscus that is showing many buds that will be coming out soon as long as the weather doesn’t drop too drastically.
Soon we will be putting away all the deck furniture under cover to prepare for the winter months. It’s sad to see the summer end but at the same time I look forward to the fall, colorful foliage and cooler temps. I hope you are enjoying your weather wherever you live.
Some beautiful and special things leave and are replaced by others. We noticed that the winter blue birds are back and looking for food. John put out more dried worms for them in their feeder. Here are a couple of photos of them – so beautiful!
I hope you enjoyed my photos and will come back again for more.

Do your middle-graders and preteens love ghosts, magic, haunted houses and time travel? There’s plenty of all of this in my fun series, Abby & Holly. Both girls and boys enjoy this series and adults do too.
I enjoyed writing this series and feeling like a kid again. It brought back all the times, good or not so good, I had in school with friends. The stories came to me easily even though none of them are true of course. But I think many have had bullies cross their paths one time or another. Read how Abby & Holly handle this bully.
PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER! READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – BRONZE MEDAL!
This is Book 1 of a series of Abby & Holly books. These two girls were first introduced in Book 5 of the Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series. The girls are first cousins on their mothers’ side. I am excited to showcase the cover reveal of my newest book in Branyrd the Angel Series Book 4: Mission of Hope! Cover was created by my husband, John. It illustrates the tumultuous mission that Branyrd must undertake. Watch for this book coming in October.
This was an emotional series to write where I added some humor to help lighten the tense moments somewhat. It delves into current issues in our troubled world and how an Angel like Branyrd can made a difference. As I wrote the story, I felt her pain as she tackled all the problems and worked to help those in need find their way to better lives.
This newest book hopefully will give HOPE to those in need who feel as if they have someone watching over them. I pray that all peoples who are troubled in our tumultuous world that they find peace, love and hope in their lives soon. Never stop believing because we are not alone in this world.
If you haven’t read any of this series yet, I hope that you will check it out soon and feel the love, hope and peace that Branyrd spreads along with her Guardian Angel, Benedicto. This will be the last in this series unless Branyrd pushes me to write more missions.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support! Please come back again soon, you are always welcome.
