An invasive vine in our pond and a short story about it for children!

The pond in the back of our house is trimmed back every year. This year was no exception. I snapped photos of before and after it was cleared. What a difference it made but not always good. Sigh! The color was beautiful but after the trimming, it was all gone.

The pond looking bleak.

It looks neat and not as colorful but this needs to be done since it gets too thick and uncontrollable. The fence is covered with an evasive vine called Bittersweet that takes over trees and other plants by smothering them. We have seen trees completely covered by this vine. It’s sad to see and almost impossible to save the tree once it gets covered as the vine climbs up the trunk of the tree.

We previous was a tree in our backyard in the pond that was covered by this vine. We kept trying to cut the vines away so the tree could live but we were unsuccessful. It grew too fast, resilient and kept coming back after we cut it away. It was so sad. This touched me so profoundly that I had to write a story about this vine and how to get rid of it. This short story is in one of my children’s books, Bedtime Stories for Children. There are six stories in each book about animals and other things that will interest children and keep them engaged along with the colorful illustrations by my husband, John.

Here is the series if you would like to check it out.

MOM’S CHOICE AWARD WINNER – SILVER MEDAL!

This is a short story collection for children ages 5-8. They are perfect for bedtime or any time. They can be read by early readers or by a parent/guardian. They will provide a fun reading time for both the reader and the listener.

I’m sure your kids are already thinking about what they will be for Halloween, how candy they can obtain from their trick or treating and how much they can consume. Too much candy can wreak havoc on our children’s stomach and temperament, making them cranky, sick and hyperactive. Maybe it’s time this Halloween to be thinking of gifting books! They calm the mind, stomach and nerves. But most important of all – they don’t cause cavities!!

Please check out all my books today and get stocked up in time for Halloween and the other holidays that are swiftly coming our way. Happy reading and less eating! Thank you!

I wrote Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series to encourage middle-graders and preteens to read and hopefully become lovers of books. It was a thoroughly enjoyable series to write and made me feel like a kid again, only I had to speak like a young boy. This was challenging but fun just the same.

There are also life lessons that include being kind, caring and respectful toward others, listening to parents, being helpful and doing chores, and bullying is never tolerated or accepted. Parents love this series too! When your MG/PT/YA read these books, you will rest easy that they are reading good, clean, and wholesome books. What more could you want in a book for your children? Parents are reading and enjoying them too!

This Davey & Derek Series won (11 book awards) – 5 Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards, 3 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards – an Honorable Mention, a Silver Medal, and a Finalist, a Book Excellence Award Finalist, a Silver Medal in the Authorsdb Cover Contest, Top Shelf Awards – First Place and Finalist in Red City Review Book Awards and many 5-Star Reviews from Readers’ Favorite Book Awards.

WIP is finished and waiting for final editing!

While I wait for my beta readers to send back Book 4 of Branyrd the Angel Series I have begun work on Book 4 of Gateskin Chronicles Series. I can’t keep still for a second. Time is flying by and I hate to waste a minute of it! I hope to publish this book in 2025 sometime.

Branyrd the Angel series Books 1-3 (Promo by BMGN)

While you are waiting for Branyrd 4, please check out the other books in this series to get into the character of this sweet, unforgettable Angel. You will fall in love with her and her Guardian Angel, Benedicto, who is there to lend a hand or two and some much-needed levity in some tough situations.

This is not a children’s book. Branyrd is a different kind of angel. She has a difficult time being understood because of her habit of getting into all kinds of trouble and for her unacceptable language. Angels are not supposed to swear.

This angel must earn levels to be accepted by the LORD. She is presently at Angel Fourth Class and must ascend to Angel First Class in order to be given a mission to travel to Earth to help a human in trouble.

Once she reaches Angel First Class, she is given a mission and travels to Earth to help a battered woman and her child. Since she is so new to the ways on Earth, Branyrd is accompanied by her Guardian Angel Benedicto, Angel First Class on High, who guides and advises her.

Branyrd doesn’t know what she will do or how she will complete this mission. She must show her strengths and succeed, or she may be demoted. What she finds on Earth is not what she expected. It certainly is nothing like Heaven. There are dangerous people but also those who she will miss dearly when she must leave.

Here are some book trailers I created through Animoto.com to wet your appetite for this series.

Branyrd goes on another mission to Earth, this time she has been enlisted to help a homeless vet and his young son. The Angel goes out of her way to put things right for Lucas and his son, Ezra. She finds it difficult through with the influx of empathic messages and feelings that threaten to overload her. Will she be able to help Lucas get his family back together and find his way to recovery after suffering from PTSD?

Branyrd is a funny, sweet, strong, resilient and capable Angel who is not afraid to take on the toughest tasks, who strives to pave the way for those in need, who creates change and makes a difference in the lives of others that enables them to find their way forward to a good life.

When Branyrd visits a homeless community, she meets with the mayor to work out a plan to solve the problems the homeless have there. Will others stop her from helping those in need? Will Benedicto be there in case she needs his intervention? Will Branyrd be able to break free from the connections she has made when it is time for her to leave Earth and return to Heaven?

Branyrd is on another mission which may be the toughest one so far. She has been sent to a troubled island in the South Pacific that is being attacked by the fellow islands in the archipelago. Her mission is to rescue some children from an orphanage during the attacks.

She is escorted, once again, by her Guardian Angel, Benedicto, who is there as counsel and aide as she completes her mission. What Branyrd finds there is devastation and heartbreak as she tackles the mission, this time one of love for the children and the rest of the islanders who have lost family and homes.

There are many obstacles that stand in her way and danger for the children and others as she must rescue not only them, but also another island that is in danger of sinking.

Here is what others are saying about this series on Amazon:

This new book will probably be the last of the Angel series unless Branyrd speaks up once again and wants to share another mission. I listen to whichever characters have the loudest voices. At this time it appears that Gateskin is winning and wants to share another story to add to his series.

There are still other characters in the wings that are trying to get my attention but I ignoring them for the time being. I have worked on two books at one time but I refuse to take on three at once. Yikes!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support of my books and blog. Please keep reading and I will keep writing. Also, please review books for hard-working authors everywhere.

An autumn poem!

I was looking through my ever-growing book of poems, I have been writing for many years now, when I came across this poem about autumn. I thought I would share it with you.

AUTUMN

This has always been my favorite time of year.

The air is ever so crisp and clear.

The sky is a brilliant shade of blue and even the clouds can’t cover its hue.

The trees are ripening to beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow.

It is a perfect time to take a walk with my very special fellow.

If only the trees could hold their lovely leaves a bit longer

But then the wind begins to blow a little stronger.

I feel like a kid again as I skip through the leaves

That keep falling from all of the trees.

I gaze about at all nature’s beauty around me.

It makes me happy to be alive as any one can see.

I know that we must enjoy this season while it lasts

Because soon it will all be in the past.

Autumn is surely a sign for all of God’s love.

I am truly thankful for this glorious beauty HE sends us from above.

Each day I wake up I feel blessed to be here to enjoy another day.

The weather has been so wonderful, perfect in every way.

I’m happy to be able to enjoy it, I am pleased to say.

Thank you, Lord, for each and every day.

Sorry I can’t stop rhyming in this way.

I think I did enough, I must say!

And the beat goes on and on and on! Haha!

Thanks for stopping by to read this post.

I did my best to give you the most.

I hope I have been a good host.

Please come back again soon and remember, authors need your support and reviews in order to survive in this mad, mad world of books! Thank you so much!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

2024 is flying by – almost time for new goals for 2025!

I can’t believe how fast this year – 2024 has flown by! The older I get, time seems to move faster. Do you feel that way? It felt like just yesterday when I made my goals for 2024. I have been thinking about 2025 and what I plan to do.

I have a tendency to give myself difficult goals to reach. In the coming year 2025 I plan to be more practical. I am not getting any younger and can’t do as much as I once did. It’s sad because I became a published author late in my life after I retired at age 65. I now have 46 books with one more almost completed and another one in the works. I once said that I would have 50 books before I leave this world. I hope God will allow me some extra time to complete this goal before He calls me home. 🙏

There is so much more to accomplish and I need more time to do all that I want to complete. I have several books in my mind that I want to write – one series for MG/PT, a series for 18+ and more children’s books, maybe even another short story collection. There is always something spinning around in my overcrowded head.

I can’t imagine doing anything else with my time other than writing. Writing lifts my spirits, lessens my load (problems) and brightens my day each time I write. I feel positive and happy. Does writing do that for you too? What lightens your negative thoughts? What do you love to do?

Soon I will announce what I plan or hope to accomplish in 2025. Watch for these goals next month and how well I did in 2024. There is still time in 2024 to complete a goal or two. I am fortunate to have a husband who supports me and cooks many nights so that I can continue to write. God bless him!

Tomorrow I hope to complete another editing of my WIP and get into another story while my beta readers look over my story. I don’t like to sit without doing something. Sigh!

I hope you will keep looking over my books while you wait for the next one. I look forward to hearing from readers and love reviews. Thank you so much for your kind and continued support of my blog and books. I couldn’t do any of this without you.

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your readership. Come back again soon!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Children’s books instead of candy for Halloween!

Halloween is a fun time when kids go out trick or treating and getting plenty of candy leading to some visits to the dentist for sure. There is just so much sweets they can eat before they complain about not feeling well. Right?

I remember the times when my children had so much candy, I had to control what they would eat all at one time. Reading was always my chosen gift to them. I still recommend books to them for my grandkids.

Now is the time to check out some fun books for Halloween or any time to get your kids to read instead of binging on candy. Books last much longer too and can be read and enjoyed over and over again and again.

Magic, Witches, Warlocks, Ghosts, Time Travel & More!

With Halloween around the corner, Jemsbooks has some perfect books for the season that have magic, witches, warlocks, time travel, twin telepathy and detectives for middle-grade and preteen readers. Both boys and girls love this series! This is a fun series with plenty of action, adventures and surprises!

PINNACLE BOOK ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER!
READERS’ FAVORITE BOOK AWARDS – HONORABLE MENTION!

Davey and Derek Donato are twins, but not identical, who love to play detective. They are always ready for adventure living in the sleepy little town of Lindon where nothing happens. The twins overhear about a sixth grader who lost her cell phone. The fifth grader twins kick into detective mode to solve their first case with the help of their friend, Mickey Catonni, aka cat. Things don’t seem to add up when a bully gets into the mix.

I enjoyed writing this series and feeling like a kid again as the characters told me their story. It was so much fun to relive a time in my life when I was carefree as a school-aged kid. It was a challenge to think like a boy would think. I hope I did a believable job.

My goal in writing for MG/PT/YA is to encourage all ages to read daily to enhance their creativity, increase their vocabulary and enable them to live healthier and happier lives. Keep reading and I will keep writing. Thank you! Happy Reading!

MG/PT/YA books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

All my books for MG/PT carry life lessons that I hope kids will remember and carry with them for a lifetime, e.g., friendship is important, family matters, bullying is never accepted or tolerated, be respectful of elders, be kind to others in need, lend a helping hand to others and show kindness at all times.

Fall Beauty is all around us!

The leaves are quickly dropping from the trees causing me to snap more photos frantically.

The weather is fresh, clean, crisp and clear as you can see by the sky in my photos.

With the evening temps dropping into the 40’s and soon 30’s John brought our nearly twenty-year-old hibiscus plant inside. I insisted that he not cut it down because of the multiple buds it has. I want to enjoy them as they keep blooming.

Here are some photos of the gorgeous plant, two outside and two inside.

Eventually John will managed to prune it down when I am not looking. 😳

He has been known to decimate (strong word but true) plants causing them to hibernate after being butchered. 😔 The plants do come back in due time.

Here are some salmon blossoms. Many more are coming.

My son and his family gifted me this beautiful plant nearly twenty years ago on Mother’s Day. We keep it inside the house all winter long without blossoms once it is pruned back and then put it back outside when the temps are warm enough.

This fall I noticed that it appeared to flower more in the cooler temperatures than ever before. Amazing! There were always one or two flowers at a time but this year we have had several flowers appearing at the same time! It was glorious to see! I hope it will continue to do that inside.

Here is another plant that is still flowering- a dipladenia or bougainvillea. I don’t bring this one in though. There is no more room for it. It is quite lovely too. We buy one every year and it always does well.

I hope you enjoyed my pics and come back for more.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support.

Editing is coming along of Branyrd the Angel Book 4!

I finished another editing of my WIP plus I added an epilogue which I thought it needed to close things up a bit. Branyrd wanted to keep going with the story. I thought she would never stop pushing me to continue. My husband called me to take a break and have something to eat. That gave me a reason to close things down until tomorrow.

Here is the new cover created by my husband, John, in case you missed it in a previous post. It is a photo I took of the sky one night. It was so incredible I had to save it to use for a book cover.

If you haven’t read this series yet, please begin with book 1 to get into the character and see how she begins her transformation and matures a little more in each book. She was such a fun character to share her story with me. Her cohort, Benedicto, Guardian Angel on High, adds some much needed humor to lighten up the tense scenes. I found myself chuckling with their comedic repartee. I hope you will enjoy this series as much as I enjoyed writing it.

This may be the last in the series as of this moment unless Branyrd summons me and wants to share another story or two. Time will tell. In the meantime I will be reviewing it a couple more times and then it will be in the hands of my marvelous beta readers.

Of course, while I am waiting for their notes on my book, I will begin the fourth book in my fantasy series, Gateskin Chronicles. It is always exciting to begin another book and get into the characters of a series who have become friends, in a way.

There are more ideas in the wings for other series with new characters that are nagging me to let them tell their stories. I will get into them in a year or so after I complete the last book in the fantasy series. Since this series is an epic series it does take me longer to complete each book – 3-4 months each instead of a couple of months for shorter stories.

My husband is working occasionally on illustrations for my children’s book. He promises to have it finished by December after I add more to the story. I will do that in between things soon.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. I hope you will check out all my books while you wait for the newest one to be completed. There is something always brewing at Jemsbooks. Happy Reading!
