Hunting Mariah is now in Audible!

Today I made my first audiobook, Hunting Mariah. It was quite easy to do and so quick. It is already up and running. I purchased the Audible link so I can get all my books in order to hear them myself. It sounded quite good with an AI generated voice.

I am excited for you to listen in to this audiobook. I hope you enjoy it. Please send me your comments. Here is the connection to Amazon for the book and audiobook below.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F49DCHPM/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._5vxTfnvBNPfToT-Tj0f3Ye71ogZN_tGyJkrosATxN9lrfMYqow2YuuA2yLAEBLNtEsrJHEwMrBnRqnnZLsAHPYLkHtQhPWDzsmLWUW8WF7-vUr-Px3t65M-ysD80R8B3LpjOYwlmPMmPIOHLDLB4l8lCi-YRXLmf9O9qQ_MrhQ.PRxTSrSYNAfDDjC2WhATfjMZta3LQnqeM_ODWNJCEDM&qid=1744248778&sr=1-2

It was exciting to listen to my first novel in Audible. I only listened to a title bit of the prologue but plan eventually to listen to the whole thing.Writing this book was traumatic for me with the killer invading my dreams each night. I hope he doesn’t do that again if I relive the story.

If you purchase the book you will get the audio version for $1.99 or you can purchase the audio for $14.99 or you can sign up for Audible for a monthly fee and get it free. It’s your choice.

I will be putting all my novels into Audible soon. Watch for all the novels for 18+ and my YA fantasy series to have their own audio versions. Happy reading and listening everyone!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again for more news about new audio books, publications, reviews, interviews and whatever else I think of writing about.

A recipe from Janice’s Kitchen Corner – Apple Turnovers!

I usually make an apple pie when I have company but I decided this time to do something different. I have some turnover molds that work well. I also made a few different turnovers with some preserves I had – blueberry and strawberry rhubarb.

I made these for Valentine’s Day using my heart mold. I have three different size turnover molds, and also the heart and a star mold.

The apple came out better since it had more moisture than the preserves did after baking. These molds can be used to make empanadas with meat and cheese or whatever you want to include.

You can use packaged dough or make some yourself as I do.

Ingredients:

  1. Dough in store bought container or homemade dough
  2. 4-5 chopped apples
  3. 1/3 cup sugar
  4. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  5. 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  6. 1/8 tsp ginger

Directions:

  1. Cook apples mixed with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
  2. Set apples aside to cool a little.
  3. Roll out dough into circles to fit molds
  4. Put tablespoon of apples on each round and fold in half
  5. Crimp edges to seal and make a small slit on top of turnover to prevent spillover.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes until the crust is lightly browned.

Serve these warm with ice cream or cold. They are delicious. You can also substitute blueberries but cook them beforehand with sugar and a tsp of zest from a lemon. I hope you enjoy these.

A lovely new review of Lamby the Lonely Lamb!

I happen to see this new lovely review of my children’s book, Lamby the Lonely Lamb. Thank you, JanS.

A creative way to teach children about being different.

March 28, 2025

Verified Purchase

This children’s book is a creative way of teaching children about being different. Lamby managed to turn itself purple, by accident, and was shunned by all the other white lambs because of it. But the author provided the perfect solution to Lamby’s predicament and the story had a heartwarming ending. Children of all ages will relate to this sweet story.

Mom’s Choice Awards Silver Medal Winner!

This was a special book to my granddaughter since it was dedicated to her and her stuffed lamby. She was quite proud of this book at that time and had to show it to all her friends. Now she is all grown up and a teenager who probably never looks at this book now. Sigh! They grow up too fast!

It is so important for our children and grandchildren to understand the life lessons in this story about accepting others who are different and being kind to each other. This is the season for kindness and forgiveness. Every day should be that way, don’t you think?

When I write stories for children I always incorporate kindness, acceptance of differences, friendship is important, family matters and we are all beautiful no matter what color we are. You will find all my books carry many if not all of these life lessons for children. If we show kindness to others and our children witness this, then they will do the same. I may not have become a teacher but I feel that through my books I teach children many valuable lessons this way. I hope your children will enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it for them.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again soon.

How important is it for children to learn life lessons early?

I believe that it is never too early to teach children important life lessons. The saying goes: children learn what they see and will copy that behavior good or bad early on in life.

Photos are from Pexels free photos of life lessons.

What must we do to ensure that our children get the right examples to follow? Well, first of all, we must demonstrate these lessons for them every day.

What are the most important life lessons? Parents will want their children to learn certain valuable life lessons.

These are the life lessons that I want my children and grandchildren to take with them and carry-on to their own offspring.

  1. Be kind.
  2. Be gracious.
  3. Help others in need.
  4. Don’t judge others by the color of their skin, religion, etc.
  5. Believe in yourself.
  6. Don’t be afraid of trying something new.
  7. Don’t get discouraged if things don’t work out the first time.
  8. Remember that you are loved.
  9. You are special!
  10. Choose your friends wisely.
  11. Not everyone is going to agree with you no matter what you do.
  12. Don’t go along with the crowd – do your own thing – the right thing!
  13. Be humble
  14. Be respectful of others
  15. Learn from your mistakes and own up to them.
  16. Stand up for others who cannot stand up for themselves.
  17. Be your own person, don’t compare yourself to others – you are unique.
  18. Apologize when you do hurt someone.
  19. Know that I am here for you if you need me.
  20. Follow your dreams.
  21. Life can be tough – be strong.
  22. Take care of yourself – mind, body and soul.
  23. Appreciate the beauty around you and be thankful to God for everything you have.
  24. Remember family is important and are your backbone for support.
  25. Be careful online with all the technology and don’t post something that you will regret later. It never goes away!
  26. Laugh each day and stay positive – good for your mind and body.
  27. Remember you are loved always!

I’m sure I will think of more as I close this as you will too. There are so many things that we need to teach our children to prepare them for this world. We cannot be with them always but if we instill in them these important life lessons early and often they will be successful adults one day.

JemsBooks children’s book carry important life lessons.

Jemsbooks Children’s books are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

I am amazed when I look at my grandchildren, all five of them. They are so beautiful and handsome, smart and talented. I believe that they will be successful one day and already are becoming that way. My grandchildren range from ages 11-27. I think. Haha. I can’t keep up with them. My husband has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren ages 10-34, I guess?

My three eldest grandsons are musically talented. They all sing beautifully, can act, a little dancing, and one composes amazing compositions that are used by the college he attends. I can’t tell you how proud I am of them all!

My youngest grandson is an outstanding athlete. No matter what sport, he tries he excels at it. It’s amazing to watch him. Unfortunately, I don’t get to see him in action a lot since he travels to different places and it is at night sometimes. I don’t drive at night anymore due to eye issues.

My only granddaughter is a talented dancer. She is gorgeous in every way. I know, we all think our grandchildren are beautiful, handsome, smart and talented. Well, I think they are and one day I will share some of my grandson’s compositions, if he lets me. Maybe I can convince them to sing together and share their beautiful voices here too. Someday.

When people ask me where they got their talent, of course, I say it’s from me! Haha! I did sing in a chorus which was part of Sweet Adolines International for a short time. Also, my father’s family sang, danced and played instruments. My maternal grandparents sang in a band and played an instrument too. I used to sing with my grandfather when I was young as he played his mandolin. If you have never heard a mandolin before – it is the sweetest sound you will ever hear. I sang as a soplano to keep in tune back then. Now I sing lower if I sing at all – in the shower most of the time. Haha!

Well, I guess I have gone on long enough bragging about my grandchilden. I will see them at Easter, at least most of them along with all my nieces nephews and their children. Fun times!

I hope you will have a wonderful day filled with all good things. Happy spring and a Blessed Easter!

Easter projects completed!

I have been working on Easter projects for my grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. I crocheted these items for them and will include some candy as an added treat.

The four bags will be filled with some goodies for the older children while the amigurumis will be for the young ones, some can’t have candy yet while the others can. I completed these in record time. Now onto the next project.

What Easter projects are you working on? I hope the kids will like their gifts. I love to see the surprise and joy on their faces when I give them these things. Each year I try to give them something that I think they would like. I do similar projects at Christmas time for all my family and John’s.

Strange weather everywhere & WIP is coming along!

While watching the news I have seen some weird weather, tornadoes, severe storms with heavy rains causing landslides and flooding. Recently we had some heavy rain with thunder and lightning that flashed across the windows and woke me up. It’s all so frightening to see this happening.

I pray that wherever you live that you are safe from any storms. The weather here in New England will be warming up after all this crazy raw cold and rainy weather that keeps us inside. I look forward to some better weather soon.

During this recent inclement weather, I worked on my latest book completing five more chapters, two hundred and fourteen words and over 24K. It’s coming along but much more to do. This weather is conducive to writing and reading. I’ve done plenty of both.

I wanted to take a moment to thank all my new followers for signing up to be here and for their comments. I love seeing new readers and followers. Please keep coming back for more. You never know what you will find at JemsBooks, even I don’t know what I will write about next. It’s like talking to all my readers as if they are in the room with me. I hope you feel right at home here each time you visit.

Please check out the rest of the books in this series: Gateskin Chronicles, Books 1-3 and LET THE ADVENTURES BEGIN!

I recently sent a copy of Book 1 of this series to four winners from Mom’s Choice Awards giveaway. I hope they will enjoy this fantasy adventure and want to read the next books.

If you haven’t read any of this series, hop on board the JemsBooks Express and grab a copy of the series so you will be caught up when the next book is published.

This is Book 1 of a fantasy series that will have six books in all. In this book learn about the three children of King Gateskin and his wife, Queen Solinara. The children have had powers since they were quite young..

Serena was three years old when she learned of her power to move objects with her mind. Her brother, Simon, can fly and their sister, Catalina, can become invisible or blend into her surroundings. They live with their parents in Sovorotskina, the Land of Light.

With these powers comes responsibility. The children must try to use their powers for the common good and responsibly to help others. The three children befriend a Sprite named Spindle who accompanies them on their adventure. Along the way they meet up with their aunt and uncle, their mother’s brother and his wife, Wizard Hotenfaran and Fairy Procelina. The group must travel into the evil land of Parotovina, Land of Darkness, to save King Gateskin, who was kidnapped, and also rescue some of the descendants of their friends and fellow Sovorotskinans who were captured and taken by the Evil Ones. These descendants have been waiting a long time to be free to return to the villages of their ancestors.

The children have many trials and adventures along the way. Will they be able to rescue their father and fellow Sovorotskinans without endangering their own lives? Will the evil King Kaposkaran and his Queen Beregina stop Serena and her siblings from being successful or will they turn Serena and her siblings to their dark ways?

This series has won three Gold Medals from Mom’s Choice Awards, a Book Excellence Finalist Award, and a Maincrest Media Book Award.

Spring is a perfect time to read. In fact every season is perfect for reading. I read so many books in a month averaging 7-10 books and over 90 in a year. I only wish I could get more in some days but there are many other things I must do like writing, cleaning, cooking and washing clothes. Sometimes I do forget to eat but my trusty husband always reminds me. God bless him!

Well, I guess it is time to get back to WIP. Gateskin is calling me to finish up his tales of magic and fantasy. This new book will have plenty of all that including the magnificent dragons. I love dragons, do you? I can’t get enough of them. They are keeping me on my toes as they push the envelope sometimes and want to control the story. I can’t have that. I won’t say anymore; you will have to read the next book and find out what happens. I still don’t know how it will end but I’m sure Gateskin and company along with the dragons will lead the way for me. What fun I will have along the journey!

Here are what others are saying about this series:

A Lamby for Easter – Lamby the Lonely Lamb!

Are you looking for that special book to give to your little ones this holiday season? Look no further – Lamby the Lonely Lamb is one that they will love. It is recommended by @MomsChoiceAwards! This is a perfect gift instead of all the candy children get that only lasts for a day, if that. This book will give them hours of enjoyment daily and they will learn something new each time they read it or it is read by you to them. Happy Reading and God Bless!

MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS – SILVER MEDAL!

Lamby is a very different lamb because of his color. He is lonely and only wants to be accepted by the other lambs. Find out what lesson Lamby learns when a little girl, Leah, comes to the farm where Lamby lives.

I wrote this book many years ago for my three-year-old granddaughter who had a stuffed lamb. She took it everywhere with her and called it Lamby. I bought it for her one day while we were out shopping in a mall. She spied it and grabbed it not wanting to let it go. I bought it on the spot and her mother bought a second one just like it in case the first one ever got lost. One day she couldn’t find Lamby and my daughter brought out the second one. My granddaughter knew right away that it was her Lamby. Eventually Lamby was found and all was well. I think she still has it to this day, and she is now a teen.

Writing for children is pure joy for me. What makes me the happiest is that I love to see children enjoying my books and getting many hours of learning and encouragement by the important life lessons I instill in each of my books. I think parents are happy about this too.

I hope if you haven’t checked this book out yet that you will this Easter season. It will instill important life lessons for young children – it’s okay to be different, be kind to others, and believe in yourself – that will stay with them for a lifetime.

There are twenty-two other books to choose from that are fun and entertaining anytime.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your kind and continued support. Please feel free to come back any time. You are always welcome.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Books Read and Reviewed in March 2025!

Here it is already the end of another month. Where does the time go? I have been busy as usual reading some wonderful books for the month of March of 2025. Here are the 7 books I read and reviewed for March. I might have read even more if I didn’t have a few WIP. But I always seemed to have a WIP! That fact never stops me! I hope you enjoy reading these reviews.

I love sharing my eclectic reads in this Jemsbooks Segment, Books Read in the Month. I hope you will get a chance to look over these books soon. Thank you for your kind support of my work and that of my fellow authors.

If you are an avid reader, as I am, please review the books you love on Amazon or wherever you purchased them for others to enjoy your reviews. Reviews are one way for readers to know about an exceptional book. We indie authors love to receive reviews and appreciate the efforts of readers to do them. Once again, I thank you for your kind support of me and my books and for supporting my fellow authors too.

When I wrote these reviews I rated them on Amazon, Goodreads and sometimes Barnes & Noble. I did not include the ratings here though. It is best to share my thoughts with you about how I felt about the book without the rating. Ratings can be deceiving at times.

We all feel differently about books. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we like them and still other times we may dislike a book. Some other books are so memorable they take our breaths away! While still others are sweet, sensitive, and enjoyable reads that we soon will forget. But all these books I have reviewed were lovely reads as you can see from my reviews. I hope you enjoy my reviews and that they will help you to decide what will be your next read.

Fatal Intrusion is a unputdownable thriller/crime/detective series that grips you and holds onto you until the last page. The characters are interesting, well-defined, strong and resilient.

This was a wonderful beginning to this thriller series. The main characters Carmen Sanchez, a Homeland Security agent, and Professor Heron, an Intrusionist expert, get together to solve mysterious crimes that put their lives in danger at every turn.

When Carmen’s sister’s life is threatened she goes on the alert and won’t give up until she discovers who was responsible and put them away for life. What she doesn’t see coming are many others who are killed causing this to be a serial crime and the killer is now on the prowl.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment of this incredible series.

Amanda in Spain is a delightful edition of this entertaining series for middle-graders. It has a main character who is adventurous and curious about everything.

She travels to meet her friend Leah who is in Spain with her parents. Everywhere Amanda goes a mystery follows her and she becomes embroiled in unsuspecting events taking her friend along with her. Amanda tries to solve each mystery without hesitation. The author covers some interesting history at each place Amanda stops making the reader feel as if they are there.

This was a quick and satisfying read that kids will enjoy as much as this senior did. I look forward to more mysteries with Amanda and travel to faraway lands and adventures.

True Colors is another wonderful book by this talented author, Kristin Hannah. This story was intriguing and gripping as it deals with the lives, loves, and problems that this family has not only with men but also with each other.

Three sisters share their issues with each other and must deal with some difficult problems when the oldest sister, Winona, loves a man who doesn’t feel the same about her but falls in love with her youngest sister, Vivi Ann. Things escalate as Winona tries to deal with this as her heart is breaking. Vivi Ann is clearly oblivious to her sister’s feelings and while planning her marriage to this man falls head over heels with a cowhand who works for her father. One thing leads to another.

During all this time the cowhand gets into trouble with the law and finds himself in jail. Winona who is a lawyer doesn’t believe Dallas is innocent and refuses to defend him. The middle sister, Aurora, has marriage issues of her own but tries to support her sisters who can’t seem to get along.

This story was a wonderful testament to the strength and perseverance of families in spite of everything that threatens to tear them apart including an unsupportive and cold-hearted father. I hated to see this end and would like to see this continue in another chapter of the Grey sisters.

I highly recommend all Hannah books!

Past Tense is an entertaining book in the Jack Reader series. The author has created a strong character with a heart and a dry sense of humor that makes for an endearing and unforgettable protagonist.

This book has plenty of action, suspense and tension as the story unfolds with two unsuspecting travelers who are kept hostage in an out of the way motel. Jack Reacher crosses paths with these two travelers and the action ratchets up.

I have read other books by Lee Child but enjoyed this one the most so far. I will read more of this series.

When We Were Widows is a moving story of three generations in this family who have each suffered from the loss of a husband, grandmother Mama Imelda, mother, Ana, and daughter, Yesica. Though each person has her own issues with one another, they love each other and try their best to get along.

What they don’t share is how similar their losses are and how profoundly they have been affected. Each character has her own secrets that she refuses to share with the others. This causes more problems since it keeps them at odds and a great distance apart.

This was a book that women would enjoy. It highlighted Latino families and their cultures, food and beliefs. An enjoyable read that showed the strength of women in the toughest of situations.

A Very Bad Thing is an engrossing mystery that had plenty of twists and turns and surprises. Columbia Jones was a complex character who lived two lives and somehow no one found out for many years.

There are many characters in play that come together in an unexpected way. It kept me guessing until the end and then another revelation comes that I did not expect. There was plenty of suspense as more things are uncovered about this famous author.

This was an enjoyable read that kept me turning pages.

Twisted Truth is a quick read that is full of action, murders, and mayhem. Detective Seth Harding is called to investigate gunshots and finds two dead bodies but discovers something also shocking in the basement of house – a young boy chained to the furnace.

Seth calls his wife, Carly, who is a social worker, to take charge of the child until the boy’s family can be found. Danger is at every turn as Carly tries to keep not only the traumatized boy but also her family safe from those who are threatening to harm the boy.

Though it was a quick read, it was an enjoyable one with fully defined and interesting characters and story lines.

I hope that you enjoyed my reviews and that you review books that you read too in order to help to spread word about hard-working authors’ books. Word of mouth is the best way to do just that. Authors will welcome and appreciate your efforts.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again soon!

April Fool’s Day!

Have you ever been pranked on April Fool’s Day? I am extremely aware of this day because my brother and also by best friend share that birthday.

I also don’t like to visit online that day because most of the stuff that is out there is a prank. You normally can’t believe what you read anyway but on this day it is even worse! What are your thoughts about April Fool’s Day?

Compliments of Getty Images

I thought these photos were perfect for this day. My favorite is the baby’s expression! Precious, isn’t it. I wonder what he was thinking. I hope you are not pranked too much. Instead I hope you prank someone else in a nice way. Please share how you were fooled on April Fool’s Day!

Here are some April Fool’s Day pranks I found online by Readers Digest. https://www.rd.com/article/april-fools-pranks/

Frozen desktop

For this April Fools’ prank, take a screenshot of your prankee’s computer screen. Then, make it their wallpaper and hide their icons. Cue the confusion!

Color-changing milk

Add a few drops of food coloring to the milk carton. When it’s time for someone to drink milk, they’ll be shocked that it’s another color.

Unwanted alarm

We admit, this April Fools’ prank might be a late sleeper’s nightmare. Set your prankee’s alarm for 3 a.m. and hide it under their bed. When the alarm goes off, they’ll be scrambling to find out where the alarm is coming from.

Autocorrect mayhem

You’ll have to be extra sneaky for this April Fools’ prank: Sneak into their computer or phone and change common words in autocorrect. Example: Change “yes” to “chocolate” or “thank you” to “I love April Fools’ Day.”

An egg-tastic prank

Overhead shot of foil wrapped chocolate eggs; some unwrapped foils; bowl for discarded chocolates; some grapes; grape about to be wrapped; and some already wrapped grapes; red surface;Dan Roberts for Reader’s Digest

This April Fools’ prank is a fun idea with a healthy twist: Wrap grapes in chocolate egg wrappers—perfect for surprising taste buds.

I don’t know if I would try any of these but I think the grapes one is clever and cute and won’t be too harsh to try.

My dad was a joker/teaser whichever you call it. He was always teasing us about something. He did play jokes on us too. I could never get him back though. He was better than I was at it.

Have a safe and happy April Fool’s Day with only good things coming your way! Take care. Have Fun!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post. Feel free to come back again soon. Thank you for your kind support and for any reviews you post wherever you purchase my books.

A review of Mission of Hope: Branyrd the Angel Series Book 4!

It is always exciting to pop into Amazon and see a new review. Here is one of Mission of Hope: Branyrd the Angel Series Book 4. A special thank you to this reader!

Branyrd must face evil on Earth in this latest book. The LORD instructs her to give Hope to the people who are suffering from injustice, persecution, and evil factions that force them from their homes. The Angel must help those who are preyed upon, others who are straying from good, and still others who are lost.

Benedicto, her Guardian Angel, will be her constant companion during this tough mission and support her on her path of leading all peoples to GOD.

I added a little humor to lighten the load for not only Branyrd but also readers who may feel the pain, suffering, and angst of the people who this incredible angel helps. If only we all had a Branyrd in our life. Who knows you may already have one and don’t know it. I know I have one who has kept me out of danger and saved me a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Hope to Earth

Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2025

In Book 4 of the Branyrd the Angel Series Book, author Janice Spina continues the excellent adventures of a brave angel who tries to bring hope to the people of earth who are suffering from evil elements who are out to destroy all of humanity. First Class Angel Branyrd is sent down to earth and with the help and support of Guardian Angel Benedicto they fight back against the criminals and their supporters to restore justice and peace to the downtrodden people of Earth. A wise and masterful tale of resilience and hope that we can all learn from today.

Here is the trailer that I created for this book.

This was the last book in this angel series. It was sad for me to say goodbye to Branyrd and Benedicto, her Guardian Angel, but I felt it was time. They solved so many problems on Earth that I think they needed a rest. They may decide to share another mission with me one day. I will be ready if they do.

I hope you will check out this series that moved me spiritually as I wrote it. I hope it will move you too and give you mercy, love, joy, and hope in your life. We all need a little bit of each one. May you receive many blessings in life and feel joy, love and hope daily.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again soon. You are always welcome.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!
