Our fish tank life!

Life in our fish tank has been crazy with the death of our Brown Tang. We are waiting a little longer before purchasing some more fish. Our Gramma Basslet is doing okay but looks sad without any other fish to commune with him. Clown keeps looking out of his little nook in the rocks at the Gramma and starfish to make sure they are not getting too close to his space.

Gramma or Rainbow which I call him because of his beautiful colors has been trying to get close to Clown. But Clown will not nothing to do with Rainbow. I think Clown feels that Rainbow is trying to get too close to his precious anemone. He guards it with his life. Sigh!

The Chocolate Chip Starfish is doing well but scares me at times. Here are a couple of photos I snapped of him. In one he is in a weird position. He must be double-joined! Haha! I thought he was dead. But after John threw in some food he turned himself over. I have no idea why he got into that strange position!

We will purchase some more fish eventually but no more Brown Tangs. They are not strong enough to stay away from the current of the water intake and outtake. Most fish can stay away from it and not get stuck. I hate to see that happen. I’m glad the Gramma is staying clear. Maybe he learned not to go near it because of the Tang. Sad!

Stay tuned for more fish news, good or bad. Love your pets and care for them. They help to keep you healthy and happy and provide something for you to talk about. Haha!

Thanks for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again soon.

WIP Gateskin Chronicles Book 4 is finished!

I recently finished writing the fourth book in my fantasy series, Gateskin Chronicles. Now I begin the editing process. I always find this more difficult than writing the book because now I must cut or change many parts of this story. Yikes!

This book is another epic addition to the series with new characters and many of the previous ones, more magic, adventures and wizardry that will keep the reader glued to the story. Of course I will put in a satisfactory beginning and ending.

I recommend the reader should begin with book 1 to understand the storyline and get to know the myriad characters. I have a comprehensive list in the front of the book so that you can refer back to it if needed. I do it all the time. Haha!

Watch for this book coming next month, fingers crossed. In the meantime check out all the other books in the series. Two more will be coming next year and beyond.

MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS WINNER – GOLD MEDAL!

BOOK EXCELLENCE AWARD FINALIST!

This is Book 1 of a fantasy series that will have six books in all. In this book learn about the three children of King Gateskin and his wife, Queen Solinara. The children have had powers since they were quite young..

Serena was three years old when she learned of her power to move objects with her mind. Her brother, Simon, can fly and their sister, Catalina, can become invisible or blend into her surroundings. They live with their parents in Sovorotskina, the Land of Light.

With these powers comes responsibility. The children must try to use their powers for the common good and responsibly to help others. The three children befriend a Sprite named Spindle who accompanies them on their adventure. Along the way they meet up with their aunt and uncle, their mother’s brother and his wife, Wizard Hotenfaran and Fairy Procelina. The group must travel into the evil land of Parotovina, Land of Darkness, to save King Gateskin, who was kidnapped, and also rescue some of the descendants of their friends and fellow Sovorotskinans who were captured and taken by the Evil Ones. These descendants have been waiting a long time to be free to return to the villages of their ancestors.

The children have many trials and adventures along the way. Will they be able to rescue their father and fellow Sovorotskinans without endangering their own lives? Will the evil King Kaposkaran and his Queen Beregina stop Serena and her siblings from being successful or will they turn Serena and her siblings to their dark ways?

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Watch for this new book coming and LET THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE!

Celebrating our 26th Anniversary!

June 19th is the date of our wedding but now it is known as Juneteenth when the slaves were freed. Two wonderful celebrations!

Each year my loving husband sends me roses, my favorite flower. I am always thrilled to receive them and each year I am surprised. Why? Well, we are getting up in years and I figure that one year he will forget. I am always prepared for that. Sigh! But I could always buy myself some roses! Haha!

I spent some time on a poem that I write each year to him. He doesn’t want a gift or need anything, for that matter. He enjoys reading my poetry, such as it is. I am no Browning or Whitman.

Here are some flowers from our past anniversaries. At this writing, I haven’t received the roses. I will share them at the end later. I hope these flowers cheer you up. I love flowers, all kinds, but especially roses. We have roses in our area, a few bushes that I have already shared with you.

I loved the mixed colors of roses on a few occasions but the red is especially significant of love. Here are the meanings of each rose for you to enjoy. https://www.bloomandwild.com/the-blog/the-meaning-of-roses

Here is a chart I found online.

We always have lobsters and steamers and corn on the cob of a salad to celebrate the day. Maybe we’ll even have some champagne. Then on the weekend we will celebrate some more by going out to dinner for Italian at our favorite restaurant and a show at the Palace Theatre before. It should be a wonderful time being with my best guy!

I feel blessed to have him in my life. He is my life, my rock, my love and support and also my best friend. I can’t God enough for bringing him into my life.

I will put my flowers from 2025 here in this space.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and celebrating with me. Come back again real soon. You are always welcome.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

I recently lost my best friend and have had a difficult time adjusting without her but I am getting stronger and think about her every day and talk to her sometimes too. She had been sick so long and we hadn’t seen each other for a few months. We had kept in touch by phone when she could talk and texting. But it wasn’t the same as going out together for lunch, dinner or just hanging out on our back decks and having a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers. Sigh.

I have another close friend who I have spoken with and she has been supporting me during my tears.

A heartbreaking loss!

I feel my heart is breaking! Today is a sad day for me. I lost my Best Friend. I can’t stop the tears from flowing each time I think about her. I got the news this morning and have been in a stupor ever since. I can’t believe she is gone. I spoke with her a few days ago but she was not doing well. I knew it would be soon that she would leave. I didn’t want her to suffer any more. She had been sick for almost four years from cancer.

I felt I needed to pour my heart out here with all of you. It is the only way I can feel some of the pain leaving and let the tears flow and cleanse my heart. She will always be remembered and all our texts and photos will be treasured. I went through them all today and sent many photos to her husband to share with family at her wake. I pray for him to be strong and will be here for him, both my husband and I, to give him the support and love he will need to get through this terrible loss.

Here is a poem I wrote in her memory in between the tears that will not stop. I hope she can see them from above and know how much I will miss her.

Fran – My BFF

Sometimes a person comes into your life.

Maybe it is only for a short time.

But that person makes a difference.

She gives you hope, makes you laugh, cry.

She is someone you can share your hopes, dreams and fears.

She is someone you can feel a kinship, a friendship that will be cherished forever.

She is someone who is your sister not by blood but in your heart.

She is the first one with whom you want to share something happy, sad or disappointing.

She is someone who will cheer you up when you are feeling low.

She is someone who will be there for you in good times and bad.

She is someone who says you look good even if you don’t.

She is also someone who will be honest with you when she has to be.

She is someone who says she loves you and means it.

My BFF was that kind of friend and her name was FRAN.

She has left to go to Heaven and will save a place for me.

I know that she will be an angel watching over me.

I will miss her deeply and always keep her close to my heart and in my treasured memories.

Love, Jan

Thank you all for stopping by to read this post. Please pray for me to be able to accept this loss. I am trying hard to move on but I find it quite difficult. The memories keep flooding my brain. I find myself crying and then laughing over something we shared. I will keep busy writing, blogging and crocheting to clear my mind and will eventually accept that she is gone. I hope she keeps close watch over me. I will need that.

Keep your friends close and treasure them always. God bless you all.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Happy Father’s Day! Blessings to all the fathers out there!

Here is a post for Father’s Day that I posted in 2020! It says all that I feel for my dad. I pray that all fathers out there had a wonderful day and were treated like kings.

image

This is my special dad!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Dad, you were a special man!

You were always there to lend a hand.

You treated us with kindness.

You were always fair.

You showed us how much you cared.

You wore a happy smile upon your handsome face.

And taught us how to appreciate God’s grace.

You made our lives so full and rich.

Teaching us to be good was your main pitch.

You would tease and joke.

While always a cigarette at your lips you would smoke.

You were talented with your hands.

Fixing and creating things on command.

You thought of others before yourself.

Your own troubles you put away on a shelf.

You left this world for a better place.

Leaving here on Earth a large empty space.

You gave us your love in every way.

I love you more than I can say!

I miss you more and more each day!

Happy Father’s Day with Love, Dad!

Your loving daughter,

Jan (my nickname by Dad)

I wish all the fathers out there a wonderful Father’s Day!

Here is another poem I wrote several years ago – WHAT IS A FATHER?

What is a father?

He is someone whose lap you can crawl onto and take a nap.

He is someone who reads you a story at bedtime.

He is someone who listens to you when you need a friend.

He is someone who picks you up and gives you a much needed hug.

He is someone who will play catch with you after you receive a new glove.

He is someone who will laugh at your poor jokes and tell some funny ones of his own.

He is someone who gives you a pat on your back for a job well done.

He is someone who says ‘I love you’.

He is someone who will give you money for your first date.

He is someone who will let you take his car for a drive right after you get your license.

He is someone you can call when you get into trouble.

He is someone who will listen to you and never lose patience.

He is someone who will never judge you unfairly.

He is someone who has taught you the difference between right and wrong.

And he is someone who one day you will treasure beyond reason when he is gone.

Love and appreciate your father while he is here for life is too short not to.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post. Thank you also for your kind support of me, my books and blog and for all the reviews you had posted wherever my books are sold. Keep reading and I will keep writing. Take care!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

Roses are blooming!

On a walk around my yard I snapped some photos of the roses that are blooming beautifully. I hope these photos will add some joy to your life and maybe cheer you up if you are feeling down.

I love taking closeups of flowers to highlight the incredible beauty of each blossom. These rose bushes are in a circle in front of our house. The pink rose bushes are spreading like wild roses. Maybe they are. We purchased one bush and it has spread to three more. I love that they are doing well here while other flowers have not.

I thoroughly enjoy watching them bloom and can’t take enough photos. I will share more from time to time for you to enjoy too.

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Come back again soon.

New crochet projects completed and ongoing!

I have been busy with my second favorite hobby – crocheting! I can’t get enough of it and have been busy making two sweaters and now some amigirumis.

Here are my two sweaters that I made recently. One was too big because I goofed and used the wrong needle but my daughter-in-law happily took it. The second came out smaller with the correct needle and fit me. Thank goodness. I didn’t want to do it again! Sigh! I never said I was a perfect crocheter. I do my best. The pattern is from Brianna K online. She has some great patterns that are quite creative. This sweater is done all in one piece and then sticked up all around the sides. It was challenging but I finally got the nang of it after the first one. I may make another one or NOT! HAHA!

My latest project is creating amigirumis which can be tedious since they are small and putting them together is a chore at times but fun when you see the finished products and the delight of the children that I give them to – my family.

Here is my latest amigirumi – STITCH – which is in the theaters soon. Kids love him. I do too. I may make one for myself after finishing five for the great nieces and nephews. They don’t know about these yet – so don’t say anything. Haha! I am only making them for the five youngest kids. If the family keep having more children, I will keep busy doing all this crocheting. I even have a baby sweater and two afghans ready for whenever they arrive.

STITCH is still in the development stage and not finished yet!

I will share when I have all five completed. Each time you create one I find that they are a little bit different. Variety is the spice of life, isn’t it? He is cute though! I like him so much that I will probably make one for myself if I have any yarn left or any ambition to continue to torture myself. Sigh!

Thank you so much for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. I hope you will come back again. There is always something brewing at JemsBooks!

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!

A sad day in the fish tank!

I am saddened about what happened in our fish tank today! John and I had been out on errands and a doctor appointment. When we returned home, we found our beautiful Brown Tang stuck on the fan that circulates the water in the tank.

He was still breathing heavily and struggling to get off but was held tight by the water. John quickly used a tool to free the fish. We watched in horror as it struggled to swim but couldn’t get his equilibrium to fly straight. He struggled and settled down behind the rocks. We thought he was going to die there.

We couldn’t watch him die like that and felt helpless to do anything other than put some Stress Coat in the water to calm him. A brief time later we returned to find him inside the anemone, being digested, much to our shock. Yikes!

We don’t know how the Tang got inside since the anemone doesn’t move much. We figured that the fish must have died and floated nearby and down into the arms of the anemone. It was too sad to watch.

Here is a photo of him healthy even if it was only for a short time. So far, the Gramma Basslet is swimming around. He must be wondering where his friend disappeared.

My husband is quite upset but will purchase some more fish soon. I don’t want to do that just yet but I know the tank looks extra empty now. Sigh!

Thank you for stopping by to read this post and for your continued support. Please come back again. I hope I will have good news about more fish and a healthy tank.

Blessings & Hugs! Stay Safe, Stay Well and God Bless!
