Bittersweet is growing wild once again and a story for children about this!

Do you know what bittersweet is? Here is a link to discover more about this invasive plant that is invading our backyard. I have even written a story in one of my children’s books, Bedtime Stories for Children Series. Check it out below.

Here is a photo of it in our backyard.

Bittersweet is known to smother other plants and trees and eventually kill them. We have seen the damage they can do every year. I used to cut it back myself but suffered from sore fingers and hands from trying to keep it at bay. Now our landscaper for the community is supposed to do this every year or two. This year it has grown immensely from all the heat and rain we have had this summer, and densely covers the fence bordering the pond. It will be almost impossible to get it all out if they wait too long.

We have watched it as it has grown up and attached itself to trees nearby and completely covered them. We even tried to pull it away and cut it to give the tree some breathing room. But this vine is wiry and can grow fast and cover a tree in short order. It would be quite amazing if it wasn’t so frustrating to see in action. If left to it own devices, bittersweet will wipe out a forest of trees in short order leaving nothing but empty trees trunks to be their backbone or skeleton, you could say.

I have seen how it can send shoots underground and plant itself closer to our house and back deck. If I see a new shoot coming up I pull it right away. If it wasn’t cut away from time to time it would eventually cover our whole house. It is something of nightmares which I do not like to think about. With my overactive mind as a writer, I can easily visualize that happening. Yikes!

I have looked up ways to completely destroy it and get rid of it completely, of course until birds eat the berries and drop the seeds all over the yard once again. Sigh! I have heard of people who own goats and rent them out to others who have this vine. What the goats do is eat the vine right down to the roots thus destroying any sign of it. I think this is a great idea. Now I need to convince our community to do something like this. They will surely think I have lost my mind. If we don’t get rid of this vine I surely will lose my mind!

Now back to the story that I wrote for children. In my four Bedtime Stories for Children Series, Make Believe, Make Believe is Fun, Make Believe Again and Make Believe Once Again, you will read about things that I have experienced or that are pure fantasy from my over creative mind.

This series is for children ages 5-8 who want to be more grown up and read chapter books like the older kids do. They will feel more grown up and want to read more and more. I promise you! These stories are different and all carry life lessons for your children to learn early and often in order to incorporate them into their young ever expanding minds.

MOM’S CHOICE AWARDS SILVER MEDAL WINNER!

The Bedtime Stories series is here once again with six more fun and entertaining stories for children ages 5-8. In this book children will read about a dragonfly, a goat, a candle, a chicken and a rooster, a boy and a pelican and a fish, and a starfish.

Each story carries important life lessons such as helping others in need, being kind to others, it’s okay to be different, family matters more than riches or being famous, friends are important, and be the best you can be.

This series was a fun adventure in writing for me to create short stories for children with chapters and an illustration for each page for all six stories created by my husband. It was a different type of book for him to work on too. John realized that he could create individual illustrations faster and for more stories in less time that it had taken for him to create illustrations for any of my previous children’s books. I think he was hooked and so was I. We may work on more of these books later on after other projects are completed.

If you haven’t introduced your children to these chapter books, I hope you will soon for them to enjoy and read every day or night. These books may become their favorite stories that they will request at bedtime or any time. Did I mention that they are educational too? You will find your children asking more questions about the characters and stories thus increasing their creativity, adding more new vocabulary (good ones) to their lists, and getting away from TV and video gaming for longer periods of time. They may even become lovers of reading! I sure hope they do!

Reading is important not only to keep your children’s reading levels up all year long but also it can increase their vocabulary, spark their creativity, enhance their health and wellbeing, and encourage them to become lovers of books. Let’s bring up a generation of readers and thinkers who will become successful and confident adults one day.

I feel pure joy writing for children and hope with God’s help and blessing to continue to write many more fun adventures for children to read and enjoy. I do enjoy writing for MG/PT/YA and 18+ too!

Here are the life lessons that your children will learn from these books:
